They also give sacraments for St. Thomas More and St. Bernard School. As well as other churches, they perform baptisms/christenings, marriage ceremonies, and funeral services. Throughout the years, the pastors have always been very kind, as is the parish as a whole. The church itself is very small, but the lighting is dim and it has a very warm atmosphere. It's very likely that you will recognize many people if you're a member of the community. The sermon is usually light-hearted, though sometimes more serious, but never boring or too lengthy. The mass itself isn't too long, either. I know this might sound strange and random, but they also have the best Holy Communion bread I've ever had. They have the round and unleavened Eucharist, but they also have blessed softer, moister, sweeter bread. As a child, I always found it a mystery as to why they had both breads, and also what kind of bread it was. I've never been to another Catholic church that also offers a different type of bread, so I thought this was really interesting.

I don't consider myself a very religious person but I still enjoy showing up from time to time. People are very welcoming. There is a fair mixture of Hebrew and English and on Friday nights the entire 45 min service is sung. Every month they hold a communal meal on one of the Fridays. Everyone is supposed to bring their own food, but if you don't have anything, everyone will offer to share. Probably the greatest compliment that I can pay them is that my GF who grew up attending church every week actually enjoys going more than I do.

They have been very accomodating as a meeting place - we use 1 large room, where they supply NEW tables and padded chairs. There is also something for children: a story, a class or an alternate room adjacent to the sanctuary where parents can see and hear the sermon but children can play. Try it out!

St. Joseph's is quite a large church and parish, and is always fairly packed for Sunday Mass. The…read moresermon's don't feel like they're eons long, and the choir is always pretty fantastic. They also have masses and programs that focus on child, youth, and senior faith. They also hold different events and services, including those in support of social justice for marginalized individuals, and even have their banquet halls, spaces, and rooms for rent. What I really love and appreciate about St. Joe's is it's more open, liberal stance, versus strict Catholics. Women are more prominent in mass participation and service than in other churches, and even have a St. Joe's Women Centre for homeless and less-fortunate women. As far as I know, they are also actually supportive of gay rights.
