Coach Mike and his team were very insightful of their program. They have passion and care for kids learning.

My daughter has attended debate classes there for several years, but she has learned much more than how to win a debate.

They "customize" the program to the child and use a lot of un-scientifically sound programs. Still, we were committed or perhaps desperate to help our child. After all the time and effort, I think what happened is that she just got older, and they called this progress. I don't think it was worth the time and especially the money. Most of the "clinicians" are young college graduates and they are friendly and follow the programs well. They are good people, but I voiced my opinion that I didn't think the program was being effective and wanted to make sure we were on the right track. I was repeatedly told that it was a part of the program and that we'd "see" all the work done as it begins to translate outside of their program at the very end of the program. At the end of the program, I feel like they just "finished" the program because they couldn't justify taking any more of our money and time. At the end we still have major behavior problems and poor grades, etc.

We are coming to the end of the third-grade school year, and our third grader has experienced increased confidence, a lifting up of strengths, and targeted support in areas that needed growth. Even though this is a small community, I'm awe-struck at the dedication of both the administration and the teaching staff. The school's overall approach intertwines tried-and-true teaching techniques, evolving educational modalities, social justice, and the needs of the students. Their enrichment and exploration programs aren't boilerplate; they are well thought-out. At first, the parent participation seemed daunting. Still, I realized that while families of all beliefs comprise this community, the school's social-justice-inspired Quaker philosophies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship have made collaboration seamless.

If it's a Saturday after 2 PM, approach the parking garage door on LAKE, NOT green street. It will be only one garage door. Once you've pulled up, call the testing center and they will come let you in. Take a parking ticket as you go in, then go to the 5th floor of parking (it's the last one you can go to) and they will meet you at the elevator. I stayed for so long I ended up not having to pay $15 for parking (score). As a heads up, I wouldn't wear any jewelry - a kind fellow test taker helped me take off my necklace I had to leave in my locker, and I had to put my hairband in my hair. Instructions aside, the staff were so friendly, nice and attentive. All instructions were clear, the facility was clean and they offered ear plugs as well as had headphones at the desk. It was quiet enough for me - there's always some noise of people coming in and out but that's expected. Bathrooms were clean as well, lockers were spacious and my items felt safe as I had my key. And I passed my first licensure exam!

Need to rewrite I think my review because it got deleted?…read more I used to come here for tutoring for AP bio like 6-7 (unironically) years ago so take my review with a grain of salt. I loved this one male tutor, I think his name was David, so much because he never showed that he judged me and broke down concepts super simply and always encouraged me. This is how all tutors should be. But there was this one woman who went to Harvard or something who brought my mom and I into the office and basically told me it was too late for me and went on and on for a good 30 minutes-an hour about how I'd "never get into a good school" even though I had a 4.0 and I was on a good path, had clinical hours as a 13 year old, and was doing really well. She kept flexing that she went to Harvard and she could tell who would succeed or not, basically saying I'm going to fail at life because she could tell I wasn't going to make it. Ok good for you???? And surprise, she was wrong. I got into the top schools in California and am about to graduate with honors. I wasn't sure if writing a review after this long was fair, since I'm not sure if she still works there, but I still carry that negative memory with me to this day and even included this experience in my college essays. Hope she's not working there anymore and putting students down like that... Hopefully this was just a one-off experience but I'm not confident that it was, since she was way too comfortable rambling on like that. I would give one star because of her but that one tutor saved the rating a little bit.

David and his team works incredibly hard to ensure they understand what their students need in order to achieve success in their academic careers. As they've been in business for OVER 15 years, they are incredibly knowledgeable and really understand the material the teachers give out in surrounding SGV schools. I appreciate the heart they put into their students and it is evident that they not only genuinely care about the student's education but also for their wellbeing. I trust that any student who comes here will only grow for the better. Thank you so much David and instructors for providing so much value to the community.

I take away one star for the reasons below. There is only one bathroom for 20 to 30 kids, which means a lot of waiting to wash hands. Also, while they charge $12 a day for lunch (which is quite steep for kids lunch), there is almost fried food daily with little to no fruits or veggies daily and most days there is no drink included. Friday lunch is 2 slices of papa John pizza and a capri sun for $12. Finally, the front desk staff is not friendly at all. No one greets you when you drop off or pick up your kids. If you ask a question, you get a one word response. I must say it's the most unfriendly staff I have encountered for a kids summer camp or kids activity.

While that is understandable, given the wide age range there, I did not want him to be in that environment anymore. He was set to do another camp with them, and we had to inform them the situation, asking for a refund. The manager shot back saying that our child was the one cursing, and that all of the kids had stated he was the only one to do so. I was shocked. Our child has never said any curse words in his life, and now they are accusing him with that type of retaliation. She then continued to ask if he would still be in the camp... The way they manage is horrible. I would not recommend Magikid.

I am writing my review here because I see some negative reviews of this institute, and those reviews are not true. The negative reviews even do not explain why the school is bad. I am telling you here why Poly is a great place to "start" learning English. I know a lot of students have passion for fluent English skills, but there are always "steps". It is true that Poly do not teach "a college level English skills". However, it is also true that "you do not need a college level English skills" before you transfer to a college because the college wants you to learn the advance skills in their education system. Poly is just helping students to "prepare" the college level English. So, be patient and don't get freaked out. To describe the atmosphere of the Pasadena campus, I have to mention about this: the school has extremely friendly staffs, Max and Nataly. They always make a smile on their face, and love to joke with their student. They continuously put their efforts on improving supports on their student. As a result, I see they have recently built a spacious student lounge which did not exist in 2011. In addition, Poly provides a TOEFL class, which is for the students who seek for an advance level class. Lastly, make your sentence simple and clear when you have a question to your teacher. The teacher won't "ignore" you. The instructor just cannot fully "understand" your questions. If you make your sentence clear enough, the teacher will answer you. You also should show your respect on your teacher as a student. Because I attended Poly, I was able to transfer to a college, and was able to make more friends in this country. I personally appreciate to Poly for those my personal achievements. Poly may not a place to satisfy your expectation 100%, but is the right place to "start" your English journey.
