I politely told him no problem I will leave and I left. I would never go to this church again, nor will my children nor will I recommend. There is nothing holy about this place in my opinion. They only want your money. Honestly, it's because of people like that " Deacon", as to why I stopped going to church. I praise God everyday with myself and my family. Dressing up to go to Sunday School/Church rubbed me the wrong way. If I wasn't comfortable in what I wore, my attention to church was nonexistent. This is when I was much younger. Still today I am glad to see Church goers wearing everyday clothing and not necessarily the monkey suit. Anyhow, after talking with the pastor for the second time, I find him very laid back and cool to talk to. In the back of my mind i wondered what could be today's lesson in church? Today's Lesson: The Storm Have you ever had a personal storm in your life? Well today's lesson. Started out with how weather people...no,...meteorologist decided to name storms after women. This was later changed to men an women's name. Some of the names of selected storms have a deeper meaning than others. The lesson in short was to keep hope in what you do, because without hope, you might be battling a storm physically, mentally or both for a long time. I don't go to Church very often, but this place gives off good vibes even if I still don't know many of the people there. My wife says the main reason for being there is God. Anything else is an added bonus. I am not as into the Lord as she is, but I will say this. The music, how I feel then I am there and the history of lessons learned keep me coming back for more. I find it fascinating how things I learned in school, specifically Western/Eastern Civilization and American History had bites and peices of things I am now hearing from The Bible. I am moving at a snail's pace come paired to my wife. Yet I don't believe there is a set speed for religion. If there is, my God will have to have patience. Still, I am on a Journey of self discovery. Who knows what I will discover next week.

If you ever want a seat in the sanctuary I would imagine you'd have to get there 1.5 hours ahead of time. We were in one of the many overflow rooms. The ushers were very helpful and the congregation very nice. For the massive about of people, it was well organized. Parking is hard, we were able to find a spot a couple of blocks away.

I went to City Praise Family Ministries to see a play the Friday before Easter, and I was honestly…read moresurprised by the size of the space. As someone who does not go to church often, and when I did it was usually a smaller church, mega churches always catch me off guard. The building itself is very beautiful, modern, and feels relatively new. The people were very kind and welcoming, which made the experience comfortable from the moment we arrived. The play was engaging and the actors were amazing. During intermission, they sold snacks for about one to two dollars, and if you were a guest of one of the actors or actresses, you were able to get additional bites, which was a nice touch. They also had small gifts as well! Overall, it was a perfect Friday night before Easter. At the end, the bishop and pastor came on stage and transitioned into an altar call. This is the part of the experience that can feel different depending on the person. After the initial call, not everyone responds right away, and the pastor continues to wait and encourage people to come forward, sometimes repeating the call multiple times. As more people began to go down, it extended the moment further. For some visitors, including myself and others around me, it felt a bit prolonged, especially after a three hour play. We were ready to leave but also wanted to stay for the closing prayer, so the length of the altar call made it a little difficult to sit through. I understand that this is an important and meaningful part of the service, particularly around Easter, and the pastor is following their calling. Even so, the overall atmosphere was very passionate and welcoming, and I imagine the sermons there are very impactful.

In addition every Sunday after church they offer complimentary lunch for everyone in attendance. This has made my Sunday experience much better since we have a 1,2 and 11 year old and travel a little over an hour to attend. If you're searching for a church home and family where the Word of God is lived, preached and taught you will appreciate St. Paul @ Oxon Hill. The Pastor's mission is to change the world one soul at a time and he leads the congregation in loving God, loving people and serving the world. I'm so glad my family and I were able to transition into such a church.
