I followed my hairstylist, Kim, when she moved to this salon. It's a small and cozy space and doesn't feel pretentious at all. There's a couple of chairs near the door if you need to sit and wait for your appointment. I live in Sparks now and I will drive here for my haircut. That tells you how amazing Kim is! read more

The hair stylist is talented, and is enthusiastic. I went 3-4 times, and she did a nice job. A brought my grand-daughter and son to her. Both were pleased with her work. The issue arose when she recommended another technician in the salon (Nova Salon) for brows. I made an appointment with the brow person, but declined to make a second appointment, preferring to see what a "perm for your brows" looked like. A few months later, the brow person, Misha, asked where she should send the receipt for the "no-show" appointment. I reviewed her work, but felt it important to underscore how this woman had no problem blowing up a relationship her referring colleague had with an entire family, in a bid to collect a "no show fee". Naturally, I disputed, and have been credited with the charge. The salon owner told me the stylist called me an "Awesome client". A business should be able to show that you requested, contacted, or confirmed an appointment, prior to be able to charge a credit card they have on file from a previous visit. At the least, you should be able to check that you agree to the appointment. None of this happened. I intend to work to make this practice illegal in our area. Please let me know if you have similar stories. read more

I just wanted to share a recent experience on behalf of my lady. We were waiting for my appointment to hammer and nails, and my lady thought she could get her nails done while waiting. She went into the Nova Salon just to inquire about availability, without knowing anything about the place. However, she didn't receive any greetings or information from the staff and left without any details. While I understand that the salon operates by appointment only, I believe that the customer service experience fell short. A warm and welcoming greeting, even for walk-in customers, can make a significant difference in shaping a positive first impression. It would be great if Nova Salon could consider enhancing the initial experience for potential customers, regardless of whether they have an appointment or not. read more

I actually found this place on Yelp and it's 5 minutes from my home! Michong is a excellent and very experienced hair stylist/colorist! I have such bad luck here in Reno finding someone that's really good and not trying to rip you off money wise. I chose this salon because I came across a great review here on Yelp! I wrote the gal and asked her personally what she thought She gave a glowing recommendation to Michong. I've been to her twice so far and really enjoy my visits with her and come out of there looking like a million, or at least my hair does :) Her prices are typical of a high end work, so I don't have any complaints about that. Whenever I'm in Reno, I always get my hair done by Michong at Nova Salon. Good, fair prices for your standard cut and color. They also do manis, pedis, eyelash extensions, keratin treatments, even massages and -- ugh -- so much more. I can't even remember. Did I mention that Michong does UHHH-mazing scalp massages? She's the type of stylist that truly enjoys her job and you can tell because it's not some half-assed job -- she keeps going until she's sure you're looking your absolute best. I went from black semi-virgin hair with some highlights and ombre (with basically the driest ends ever), to a lush mocha/chocolate brown all over. AND I LOVE IT. It's pretty depressing that I found "the one" that happens to be 600 miles away, but but feeling like a million bucks kind of makes it worth the trip, even if it's just once i a while. P.S. I haven't tried the other stylists, though I've heard they're all just as talented. read more
