This includes hard-to-find items such as vintage candies and sodas. On our visit, we found Mallo Cups, one of my childhood favorites that are not that easy to get anymore. The bag-your-own aisle allows you to mix and match things like soft caramels, taffy and atomic fireballs. There are probably close to 100 bins from which to choose. There's a fudge rack, a candy counter with gourmet chocolates, etc. and a drink fridge that contains interesting options like Chocolate Soda. We were in just before Valentines Day and, of course, they have some special options for the occasion that your special someone would appreciate. I think this review cannot be summed up any better than what I overheard said by the youngest in a family of four walking through the store when I was there. She was probably five years old or so. While they were looking around the store, I overheard her say in an exhilarated voice "this is heaven to me". The inner child in me was in agreement. It's a great place to satisfy that sugar rush you've been craving, or to find a small gift when you need one.

I've never actually had any of Zingerman's candy bars so I bought two full size bars, plus a small version of the Cashew Cow. I think both the Zzang and Peanut Butter Crush were equally good. The store also has non-Zingerman's brand candies, such as Venchi, which is also a high-end brand. The shop doubles as a coffee shop, as well, and I think may have also had some small food items, but don't quote me on that. Overall, I would return the next time I'm in town.

The visitor center is bright, nostalgic, and full of fun displays celebrating so many classic candies. My husband was definitely in his element. We left with Dum Dums, Bit-O-Honey, Peanut Bunnies, candy wafers... and apparently two T-shirts! The sneak! I only realized the second shirt made it into our bag when I looked at the receipt later. The staff was friendly, everything was clean and well organized, and there were plenty of unique gifts and candy you don't always find in stores. Even if you're not a huge candy person, it's a fun place to visit for the nostalgia and the history. If you're looking for a unique day trip in northwest Ohio, I definitely recommend stopping at Spangler Candy World. We had a great time and would happily visit again.

We looked at some of the displays on their history while waiting to see if a worker would show up so we could watch the factory tour movie. Eventually a very friendly worker appeared from the back and we bought two tickets ($3 each but it should be free) for the 15 minute movie. The 10 mins of the movie that actually showed the production was very good and the pumped in aromas were a fun touch. The rest of the movie was goofy and for the kids. We didn't play any of their video games which were geared to kids. That is their main audience afterall. We did purchase a few bags of goodies but none of their famed dum dums. Barely worth the detour...

I can sum it up in one sentence: It's all good! A rectangular sampler of 30 chocolates, including peanut, coconut, orange, raspberry, strawberry, vanilla, maple, fudge and peppermint creams, chocolate-covered caramels, and some I did not recognize. Separate, were a few truffles, bon-bons, and the cutest part, a pair of chocolate mittens. This is, after all, a Michigan confectioner! As I said, I have not been to the Gilbert stores or HQ, but I fully intend to stop and take the tour later this year on my annual pilgrimage to Michigan.
