Currently, it's an office building with a theater showing Broadway quality shows, and some shops and restaurants on the ground floor. One of the most recognizable sights on Detroit's skyline, the building is also known as "The Golden Tower." The original gold-leaf tiles on the tower were covered with asphalt during WWII for fear of bombing. Following the war the damaged gold tiles were replaced with green terra cotta tiles that are illuminated gold at night.

I thought it was pretty cool to host such an event here. I also enjoy history, so I took advantage of exploring the property. I felt like I was time traveling, if the walls could tell a story, what secrets they behold. If you get a chance, take a ride out here and explore the grounds. Beautiful view of Detroit and Ontario from the top of the fort lookout point. I plan to come back for midnight tour and paranormal event.

We went for a WDET fundraiser for the Concert of Colors and it was unparalleled! I grew up in the…read moresurrounding area and I have fond memories of my mom spinning stories of what it looked like inside and of the underground tunnel and bowling alley. My visit did not disappoint! The event we attended had it all. There was food, Motown music, karaoke, and dancing. This historic home is beautiful and kudos to the home owners for keeping such great care of it. The home is a treasure.

Knowing how difficult it can be to find places in downtown Detroit, I arrived extra early and using the address and checking it against the numbers on the building and looking for a Compuware sign I was unable to positively identify the building. I circled the area where the address should have been and had to get around major construction looking for it. I then decided to focus on the parking address and...more difficulty, the street with the address was blocked and didn't go through! Then I figured out that the blocking was after the entrance to the garage so I was able to go in. After going up many floors, I finally found a spot and parked. As I approached the elevators I met a couple of ladies who were heading back to the Compuware Building so I followed them until they pointed me to the visitors desk to get directions to my meeting! I thought I was cutting it close but an earlier presentation was running long so I had to wait until they were ready. Overall impression for me was a hard to find and difficult (and expensive $4/20minutes up to $25/day) parking, beautiful lobby with waterfall. I wouldn't want to work here or come here regularly. My low rating reflects my dislike of hard to find and difficult and expensive parking.

They set up draped off areas for people with cabana reservations and opened up Hard Rock Cafe to be part of the party space. The free drinks that came with admission were good quality and all in all it was a success. The compuware building itself is a worthwhile destination if you're in the downtown area. Of course if you're in Campus Martias park, it's worth chcking out the fountain in the lobby and maybe stopping into the Texas de Brazil bar for a Caipirinha.

The structure is very similar in style to other county courthouses in Michigan built in the same era, such as those in Lenawee County and Barry County. Like many of the older courthouses, the requirement for space necessitated a supplemental building. There is a modern building next door to the old Courthouse, as well as other buildings in town, that house county functions.

John Judson Bagley, Michigan's 16th governor (1873-1877), left $5,000 in his will for a public…read moredrinking fountain that would provide "water cold and pure as the coldest mountain stream." Bagley was also Detroit's police commissioner and a key figure in founding the Republican Party and Michigan Mutual Life Insurance Company. The fountain was designed in 1885 by Henry Hobson Richardson after one in Venice's St. Mark's Basilica and is made from pink granite. It features four lion heads. It has moved around Detroit a few times, landing here in Cadillac Square in 2007. It the only surviving work by Richardson in the Detroit area, making it a rare architectural gem and while it wasn't flowing today, it's still worth stopping to check out. The 19-story skyscraper, designed by Graham, Burnham & Co., the firm that succeeded Daniel Burnham's renowned practice, was finished in 1915 and was commissioned by David Charles Whitney, son of timber tycoon David Whitney Jr. The building's Neo-Renaissance design, elegant lines, and terracotta detailing all show Burnham's influence, despite the fact that he had already died before the project started. The building's original design included a large, four-story atrium with glazed terracotta walls and marble, topped by a skylight that let natural light flood the interior. The Whitney was one of the first mixed-use buildings in Detroit, with offices and retail stores placed in this atrium. The structure changed throughout time to accommodate shifting urban demands; by the 1950s, the elaborate cornices had been taken down in favor of a more "modern" façade, and many of the shop areas had been transformed into dental and medical offices. By the late 20th century, the structure had begun to deteriorate and was finally shut down in 2000. However, it saw a significant change when it was bought in 2011 and renovated for $92 million. It reopened as the Aloft Hotel in 2014, with luxury apartments, retail space, and restored architectural elements. The David Whitney Building now serves as a reminder of Detroit's architectural magnificence and tenacity. Its location in the Grand Circus Park Historic District serves as an anchor for a community rich in civic and cultural heritage, and its renovated atrium is once again a showpiece. Inscribed into the city's skyline, it is more than just a building; it is a multi-layered story of prosperity, decline, and rebirth. I've been to the harvest festival at this location two years in a row (The festival by the way is…read morereally nice every time we come). I realized the last time I went that there's a kronk boxing gym in the same building. Not only that, I then found out a month later that JBCVC offers tutoring for kids, has a learning lab and a library, and there's another gym inside the building that hosts pickleball games on many days throughout the week! I'm sure they offer much more and have them listed somewhere online, but I was personally amazed at just the few opportunities I found out about.
