This review is mostly only for the activity room near the kids section in the back - my friend had a birthday party this weekend and rented out the room for part of it. The room was very large and the doors were mostly soundproof, which was good because we had a lot of little kids attending the party too, LOL (who were a bit loud). I did use the family bathroom next door to it, at one point - it's very cute, with a tiny toilet for kids and a regular-sized one for adults. Unfortunately it did smell pretty badly, which is why this reviews is a 4-star one and not 5-star. The layout of the library reminded me a bit of the WB library (main branch, on Walnut Lake Rd) and it's a very large building. Overall it looked very nice. read more

This library is such a gem for the community! Every time I visit, I'm impressed by how clean, organized, and welcoming the space is. The librarians are incredibly informative and genuinely friendly--they're always ready to help whether you're tracking down a book, using the computers, or just looking for a quiet spot to work. One of my favorite parts? The café inside! The drinks and snacks are great, and best of all--the proceeds go to support Novi schools. It feels good to grab a coffee knowing you're helping the local education system. There are also plenty of study areas, meeting rooms, and a great children's section that makes it easy to bring little ones along. Whether you're here to study, relax, or explore, the Novi Public Library makes it easy to feel right at home. Highly recommend stopping by--even if you're not a "library person," this one might just change your mind. read more

This library is huge you could literally get lost so many times study rooms books and computer labs. I did like that I could use my out of city library card which was a bonus, stop by if you're in the area. read more

In mentioning concerns with the library director she was too busy with excuses, lies, and long winded "explanations" to listen. The copy machine has gone up in price. At least double what it was. She said the price was the same as at the other area libraries/businesses... which I knew was a flat out lie as I had made price inquiries in the area prior to meeting with her, and, this was not what had been metioned by multiple other higher up staff members in her own facility. They cut the computer area size in half and moved it well away from the nice windows with a really great view... took bookshelves out of a room by that area and put them where the computers used to be, thereby blocking much of the view outside...all this so kids coming out of school can sit in the room... for 2 and 1/2 hours mon through fri she said. The three days I've been there in the past 2 weeks there was nobody in the room. Prior to the "rearranging" of things I never saw more than maybe 8 or so people in that area/room at most. Usually 5ish and often times it was empty. The space could easily hold 50 people. People, not just kids. I love kids, have kids of my own, but this is nonsense... especially as there is an entire HUGE teen/kids room on the first floor. Also, a big point, why not put the bookshelves where they jammed all of the computers and the computers where they put the shelves. That way ALL people doing computer things could enjoy the view... this would have required using brainpower... the excuse here was something like well we hired someone to do a study and they came up with this layout.... what the smell! What did that cost us taxpayers?! And. That does not mean that the "study" is good and/or correct! Etc etc etc. This director, she's no genius... that building was designed with a long massive wall of windows and beautiful landscaping to see through the windows... what a colossal waste of money that is now... read more

Lots of parking spots. Beautiful library. Well maintain. There is and small cafe selling food and beverage. There are several study rooms. Many computers with kids games. Nicely done in the kids section. Not only books but games and toys. Totally kids paradise! Love the self check out. No waiting needed. Very users Friendly. There are still staffs behind the counter for customer service. They are very helpful and Friendly. This is and great place for kids. Very educational and entertaining! read more

I love coming to this library with my kids - they have a great selection of books and story times for them. The kids ask to come all the time and have a lot of fun! I've also used the study rooms in a pinch for work and they've been easily available and quiet. read more

I can't vouch for the staff being polite or rude, because I do most of my library business online. I browse books and media, place a hold to pick-up, and occasionally buy a coffee at the cafe. I used to take my kids to story time, and their outdoor patio is nice and quiet. If you have a library card, get the OverDrive app and you'll have access to all the public library systems ebooks and audiobooks, directly to your phone or tablet. It's not the most user-friendly, but it's free! read more

The biggest (2 floors) and baddest library in the area I've been to so far. Lots of computer stations for both kids and adults. A cafe that actually serves food AND drinks! A cell phone talking area. Decent amount of self-checkout stations. Great, relaxing seating in and outside. From the looks of the posted programs and such, the Novi library has plenty to offer its cardholding residents. Their kids area is still beat out by Commerce. Lots of space is taken up by a full-size vehicle display that is just there to be looked at for whatever reason. The facility in on itself is beautiful and chock full of great resources, but the staff are hit or miss. There was a couple of ladies in the help desk upstairs in the computer lab who refused to help me with a computer issue I was having. Even I knew how to fix it, but I could not without someone with administrative access. The lady treated me like I was a bother and simply tried to ignore me saying, "I've never seen anything like this happen before." It is clear such ladies were probably hired out of some kind of nepotism and not actual competency. It took me a long time to convince her to call the tech person. Once I convinced her to finally get the tech person, the tech person was SUPER courteous and resolved my issue in 10 seconds! So if I could give 5 stars to the tech person I would! But 0 stars for the two ladies who is at the HELP desk who cant even help! Please don't put someone who knows nothing about computers at the help desk as that delays the time for patrons to get their work done when they run into computer issues. OR rather-if it's an issue that a staff doesn't know how to fix, it should be a pretty smooth protocol to call the person who does immediately instead of simply refusing to help. read more

WOW the new & improved Novi Public Library is even more Awesomer! lol. Since it was reopened last year I have not been back. Yesterday I took my sister-in-law there and we had a ball. The people at the front desk are nice as can be. Friendly, courteous, top notch. When you first enter the front door, to the left is the front desk and to the right is a Coffee shop but i was already caffeinated so maybe next time. Bathrooms are clean! the Stairs are a minor issue. I was huffing and puffing to get upstairs. However anyone who has Health issues, or is in a wheelchair can use the elevator. Love that there are lots of tables that have Ethernet jacks & Electrical outlets. Anyone with a Laptop can bring it upstairs and jack in. And if you don't have a computer with you, there are literally dozens of computer stations available for use for anyone with a Novi Library card. My only complaint is when looking for some books I expected to be there at the Library, I discovered according to their Catalog, about half are at Other Libraries which I learned are part of a Library Conglomerate. About 1/2 the titles I looked for were not there at Novi. Part of what I was looking for was some books about Asian Cuisine, specifically Japanese cooking. As Novi has a fairly decent Asian population, I had assumed I would have luck finding some books to learn about Japanese cooking and food. Guess what? there were only a about 5 or 6 books and those were manga graphic novels. Which was bizarre for me. I was however find several NF books and a good Sci-Fi large print book. I do love the Large Print collection they have plenty to choose from. Downstairs on the main level they offer DVD's to be checked out. For regular Movies its a cheap way to watch something if you do not have a local video store to visit. However they have a piss poor selection of NF DVD's. I hate that there is not much there... I was hoping to find a DVD about Beginning Tai Chi but there was nothing there. I may have to buy something from Amazon or Borders. So the Library is very new, the parking is a lot easier to get in and out of and there are double the spaces. The hours are good... they are open on Sundays during the Summer! yay. BUT, they need to grow more. Sadly it seems Novi Library is more interested in Technology. It almost feels empty as IMHO there are Less Books/Media than there are Computers. read more

I've lived in Novi all my life and love going to libraries all over SE Michigan. Just a great place to stop while on business trips or in between meetings. This library is up to date, modern design and just clean and spacious. Downstairs is more for "noisy", relatively speaking, with the children's area, magazines, dvds and new books. I like to spend time upstairs in the quiet study room for individuals. There are several group and one on one study rooms. Lots of tables to work at. Big windows that let day light in and overlook the landscaped park with 1/4 mile trails. Plus automatic curtains when it gets too bright in the afternoon. Staff is friendly and located at the main entrances of each floor. Just really happy to have such a wonderful library available! read more

Wish I could give no stars to this horrible place!!!! Literally the rudest staff members work at this particular branch! From the cafe workers to the main librarians!! I have been living in Northville/Novi for over 15 plus years never have I encountered such disrespect!!! The library itself is beautiful and has awesome study rooms but the problem is with their customer service. They don't even have a sign up sheet for the rooms which is makes it so unorganized. People fighting over rooms its so disgusting!! Don't waste your time at this place choose another branch where the staff is actually helpful and genuinely care about solving your problems/concerns. Appears to be recently built or renewed, so it looks great and tastes even better! There are plenty of desks w/ outlets and chairs for you to get your study on. The WiFi here is stock full of internets so you can surf to your heart's content. It's a nice (free) alternative to coffee shops in the area. Only drawback I can think of is the realization of how old you are sitting in a library surrounded by high school kids half your age... read more

Front desk is EXTREMELY rude & unaccomidating. Not friendly. Not helpful. Downright RUDE to myself & my husband. If that wasn't enough they were rude to my 16yr old daughter that is just trying to be a better student! If I didn't love libraries I'd never step foot in here again! SOMEONE needs to either fire all of them & start fresh, write them up, or get them some sort of TRAINING! They all act like they're "holier than thou" because it's "NOVI library". Please people! And to think of all the kids they're destroying the love of libraries by being like that! My 10yr old son took almost a YEAR to get his library card because of how rude I was treated when I got my card! AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!! read more

This is a beautiful library with an open market noise level. If you are looking for a LIBRARY to study, this is not the place for you. I went there for the first time last Sunday, despite being forewarned by some friends who have had the same loud experience, and was utterly shocked. This is supposed to be a library and not a meeting place for parents who would like to have their children have play dates in the private rooms. Yes, its that bad. It was so loud that I opted to go to Starbucks where, despite the noise level, is not packed with children whose moms are "taking some me time." The staff need to do a better job at making sure that EVERYONE is able to have a quiet. enjoyable experience here, by taking a few minutes to walk around and make sure that all is well in terms of people behaving like they understand that this is a library. The one star is for the beauty of the library. read more

I have to agree with Julianne. The staff at the front desk are very lazy. They care more about gossiping then doing their job. Their supervisor tells them to lie to patrons so that they can do the least amount of work possible. No other library I have ever visited has acted in this way. It's hard to believe in this day and age. I hope they get new management soon. read more

As other people have pointed out, the staff at the front desk is very lazy, rude and inept. They will not answer the phone and when you leave a message they will also not return it. They won't deal with you at all if you don't present your library card. They refuse to look up your account. They also have lost books I have returned and also put fines on my account when the book was not even due yet! I would expect a professional environment in Novi, but no, a waste of my taxpayer money. read more

The library is nice and they have a great collection. The building is fairly new and the collection is well maintained and extensive. From what I can see, management recently modified its ibistro library sharing policies and is now an A-plus good and generous citizen. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're on a time constraint or want to get things done on your personal computer. The internet connection is horrible and you'll spend half the time trying to stay connected to their wifi. They have desktop computers but you need a library card to use them and they will automatically log you out after 45 minutes. There are only 4 study rooms, which are always taken unless you arrive right when the doors open. The building is new and nice looking, but that's the only plus. read more
