In my search for a wedding dress, I visited TWENTY stores and tried on over 115 gowns. Yes, you just read that correctly. Novia Mia is different than the other stores - they make the dress TO your measurements. They don't order a size X and then alter it. I bought a dress there and they ended up making two HUGE alterations into the way it was made, which other stores didn't even mention they could do. I'm 5'2" or 5'3" and really needed some of these things done. I'll tell you - if I'm paying $1100 for a dress, I'm going to be darn happy with it. She has a bunch of dresses in store for you to try on. When you select one, she asks if you want it changed in any way, and also shows you what you can do with it. You can also take her a photo of a dress you like and they'll make it for you for a reasonable price. Worst customer service I have received in a long time. Checked ahead to see if we needed an appointment to look at bridesmaids dresses and was advised we didn't. When we arrived the 3 associates working were sitting behind the desk chatting while one wedding gown appointment was in the process. We were directed to the back to look through dresses and were told we could use the changing spaces available. For 50 minutes we looked through, trying on dresses, and having questions but no one came back to check on us to see if we perhaps needed a hand. Then one of the associates came to tell us they had two more appointments and we needed to leave basically. That was fine but we really wanted one of the dresses, and it had zero information attached. No tag, no price, nothing. I asked if we could have the information and was told they didn't have time to give it to me. I asked if they had an idea on the price of the dress and was told no, they would take my name and number and call me once they were finished with appointments. Had one of them come back while we were trying dresses this could have been avoided but instead we were completely snubbed. 2 1/2 hours later while I was driving home I miss their call and they didn't even have the decency to leave a voicemail with the details? So I pull over and call back and no answer. What a headache and waste of time. read more

WOW! Is what I'll start with! I always thought I'd be the bride to find a nice dress and just call it a day. I had tried on many "nice" dresses before and just randomly stopped by this store with my gf. The boutique is an old house and it's so cute! It also has its own parking on 17th ave which is really nice. Now , on to my experience..... She asked me what I was looking for and what I envisioned myself in... She was super sweet the second i walked in the door. She pulled a dress for me and I reacted like I never thought I would. My friend and I both started getting emotional! I found the one. It was perfect and perfectly priced. I found with a lot of places they say "gotta buy now because the prices are going up" but she said it would be waiting for me, it would not go up in price at all which made me feel sooo comfortable. It wasn't pushy, it was so natural! All in all I love this store! Plan on buying my dress by June!!!! read more

I went to so many stores and tried on so many dresses and was treated awful because of my size. I'm not a zero and I won't be. I've got a medical condition. Most stores have a size 4 to try and you just kind of hold it up and hope it's good enough. I ended up spending more than I had originally hoped but was happy to after shopping at other popular "discount" bridal stores that treated me horribly. I walked in and was greeted so warmly by two of the nicest girls. The store was lovely and welcoming. They even had photos of actual brides wearing dresses they bought in store. Not just skinny models from the catalogue. It's an older house and the furniture is antique and luxourious to sit on. I went in and explained exactly what I was looking for. Something with clean lines and isn't too hard to alter (I'm short) and bring in if needed. I explained that I have a large abdominal cyst and when it's removed I may loose a lot of weight or a little and it might need to come in. They found me a gorgeous gown with beautiful clean lines. Every dress they brought me fit my criteria. They weren't just trying to get me in a more expensive gown. And they all suited me! I asked if I could take photos. One of my bridesmaids is sick and couldn't come in with me shopping (cancer) and my Mother is across the country. They not only encouraged photos but suggested facetime or skype! They have some great payment plans. You do put down a deposit like most stores, but the payment options are great. You can pay by visa, debit, cash or to make it easy, interac e-mail transfer! I love that I don't need to go down to send them money. I just set it up automatically for my payments and I'm good. They are also being terrific about bridesmaid dresses, one can't come in so we are ordering to measure, and all three girls have completely different body shapes. They are really helpful with figuring that out as well as making it easy and flexible for them to order dresses. The only slight problem I have is they don't currently have a seamstress. But they have a referral list. I can't say enough how awesome the staff are. They have a variety of dresses in a variety of sizes to try on. They work hard to find something to flatter you and make you feel gorgeous. The whole philosophy seems to be celebrating the beauty in every woman. What a stand up company! I had such a great experience here! As a plus size bride, I was worried I wouldn't be able to actually try on any dresses, but they had a lot for me to choose from. Sandra was wonderful and made me feel completely at ease. She helped me figure out what styles I liked best, offered suggestions (even telling me when dresses didn't look good, as opposed to just trying to make a sale), and built up my self-confidence so I truly felt beautiful. When I went back to retry a dress, Sandra remembered me and again, I felt beautiful and welcome. I ended up choosing my dress from here and both Sandra and the other woman there made the entire process fun and enjoyable. I can't wait to try it on again when it arrives! read more

Novia Mia was the very first bridal shop I went to for wedding dresses and they definitely set the bar pretty high. It's a beautiful small space, usually only one customer at a time, and very welcoming. The woman who helped me was very kind and really listened when talking about what I wanted. I believe she has a lot of experience to draw on. While most of them were what I wanted, she also made sure I tried on a wide variety just so I could see what I did and didn't like about all of them. I fell in love with the second dress we tried on and when we decided to go with it she sat us down and took my measurements and went over the sizing chart to make sure we ordered the right one (apparently I'm between two sizes). As well, after this we both sat down at her computer and watched as she put the order in right in front of me so I could see she was getting the right colour, size, and accessories. All in all it was a really wonderful experience, especially for the first place we went to. The shop was great, the dresses were amazing, and the people there were wonderful. Novia Mia was the worst experience I have ever had. I designed my own dress with an inspiration picture of an Emilio Pucci dress Kate Hudson wore on the red carpet. It was plunging backless long sleeve dress that was fitted all the way to the floor. I ordered it in a beautiful lace, I was so excited to get it in. I went in with my mom and mother in law to try it on and it was horrible, it came in in a mermaid style, back was above the lumbar and buckled out, sleeves were baggy and 4 inches too short. I would have been happy had the offered to do whatever they could to fix it but instead accused me of picking a mermaid style and said I would have to pay for any alterations. She fought with me over two phone conversations and finally said they would order new fabric to remake the sleeves but I had to pay for them to get altered due to the fact my arms had obviously gotton smaller(I am a fitness trainer and have always been a size 4). Isn't is made to measure!?!?!? The owners mom is the seamstress and is the one that gets paid when things come in wrong. The seamstress did the best job she could and then charged me $220 to fix the mistakes they made. This is the worst business and customer service I have ever encountered and I cannot believe they are as defensive and accusatory in the bridal business. They caused my husband I so much unneeded stress. I hope you read this and find someone else to make you dress. I promise you will be much less stressed and happy with your results. Apparently a great shop, if everything goes right, but don't expect any help if something goes wrong. I came here for a bridesmaid dress. I found a dress I liked, and the sample was actually a decent fit for me. The saleslady took my measurements, and insisted on ordering a size down. I was hesitant, but she said not to trust the sample and kept saying my measurements meant ordering the smaller size. Months later, I've stayed the same shape (lost a couple pounds even), and the dress is finally in. It's way too small. Two staff members on hand admit it is too small. I am frustrated, but they both insist that their dresses are all alterable, and that I shouldn't worry as the seamstress will be able to work with it. I walk out assured, as they seemed confident. The tailor is flabbergasted both that they ordered that size, but also that they thought the dress had any give. Very little fabric for adjustment. Not all businesses are perfect all the time, and the response to a problem can say more than the problem itself. The manager apologized profusely, criticized the original sales person, and said the other ladies who lied and convinced me it was okay 'could have been more helpful'. However, these empty platitudes never mentioned a refund, offer to cover the massive tailoring cost, offer to rush a new dress, etc. If you shop here, trust you will get an enthusiastic sorry if anything goes wrong, and that is it. I'm out $400 for a lemon in a situation where the manager admitted all the employees I encountered were incompetent. I would have been open to changing my review/giving a positive one if the response had been any better, but instead it confirmed that the entire shop is a flop to be avoided at all costs. read more

As a bride, wedding planning an be overwhelming as is, let alone, trying to find a wedding dress. Novia Mia is a great place to go once you have established what you want in a wedding dress. I spent a weekend (yes, i realize this isn't very long) shopping around trying to figure out what I wanted. There were bits and pieces to a few dresses that I liked, and after arriving at Novia Mia and receiving a warm welcome, the ladies were on top of things right away. I think there were about three ladies going around pulling dresses based on my advice and my budget. (I'm sure it's not always like that, as they tend to get really busy, but fortunately for me, I caught them at the right time). The first dress I tried on was bang on, I loved it instantly. But it didn't compare to the second dress I tried on, and yes I definitely said YES TO THE DRESS. The price point was very reasonable. THe attention the ladies gave me was great. Not to mention, they did a very good job clamping in all the right places (this is very important for you to get a good idea of the final product). My daughter and I had a disastrous experience I would not like any other bride to go though. The trying on and ordering of the dress went well. However when the dress arrived it was not what we had ordered and the following points outline what we found with the dress: The dress was too tight - the bride had not changed in weight or size - the sales person said she must have gained weight. There was no other reason. The sales person didn't check to see if it was tight, she would do nothing, not even touch the dress to feel that it was tight. We had requested a reduction in the amount of fabric in one area of the dress. This was done however it appeared that the fabric was reduced to all areas of the dress which made the dress look very different from the sample and not what my daughter wanted nor what we had ordered. We were told that Novia Mia's seamstress would see what she could do. We were not confident that the sales person cared what we thought of the dress. I was not comfortable going to Novia Mia's seamstress as I had read reviews that were not satisfactory about her. She is also the mother of one of the owners. We paid for the dress and left. This was a mistake as the owner didn't want anything to do with us once we left the store. Please note that no where on Novia Mia's receipt does it say final sale or no returns. We took the dress to a reputable seamstress who found the following: The inner layer of the dress was made for a mermaid style dress not the A line style we had ordered. This was one reason it was so tight on my daughter. The third layer of the dress had a mistake in the cutting of the dress where a 2.5 inch cut had been made in the wrong place. Instead of replacing this piece of fabric they used it and made the dress 2'5 inches tighter. This same layer was cut salvage to salvage rather than on the bias. When a fabric for a skirt is not cut on the bias there is no swing and the fabric cannot drape. Draping was an important part of the design of the dress. The result was except for the sleeveless top the entire dress had to be remade and we had to purchase new fabric due to the mistakes in cutting there was not enough to make the dress. When I approached Adrianna, one of the owners, she was not helpful. We had pictures of my daughter in the sample dress and the dress the arrived for her and you could see that they were very different. First she tried to deny everything I showed and explained to her. She gave me conflicting information. For example on the phone I asked her if she checked every ordered dress that came into the store she said no. When I met with her in person she told me she thoroughly checks every dress when it arrives. She tired to tell me it was due to the changes we made to the dress that had caused the problems. When I showed her on the sample dress what had occurred on my daughters she admitted that a mistake may have been made. I asked for her to pay for the alterations of the dress which she refused. She stated once you have taken the dress from the store that there is nothing she can do. She offered us a beaded belt and a beaded hair comb in compensation claiming that together they had a value of offer $500.00. When I picked up the veil the comb on the veil had been sewn on backwards. When the first pictures of the wedding were posted on Facebook Novia Mia liked it immediately. By then it was not their dress. Which means they didn't learn anything from their mistake? Since this experience my daughter and I have spoken with a number of people that have had issues with Novia Mia. In summation I would say that if your dress comes in fitting right you may be ok however a friend of my daughters did have a dress that fit well when it arrived however by the end of her wedding all the buttons had fallen off of the back of her dress. The service we received at Novia Mia was nothing but dreadful. Very sad when it is supposed to be a happy time. Thank heavens for our seamstress who saved the dress. read more

We had a great experience here shopping for my sister's wedding dress and our bridesmaid dresses. The service was friendly and honest. You could be yourself in there as well as take pictures of the dresses (which a lot of places don't allow). One thing I really appreciated was their integrity and that they don't bully brides into purchasing anything. We went in March and when my sister wasn't quite ready to "say yes to the dress" they were extremely easy going. We happily returned during the summer to buy the dress (as well as our bridesmaid dresses) and they were just as friendly as ever. I highly recommend seeing Nicoletta who helped us out during both of our visits, she really added to the fun of the experience. I am two days from my wedding with no bridesmaid dresses and no options. Several months ago my Bridesmaids and I began out hunt to find the perfect dresses. While Novias prices were on the higher side and their selection was minimal at best we found one that suited the theme of the wedding and placed the order. My first negative experience was the customer service. The girl who initially helped us seemed very inexperienced and had little to no understanding of the styles or product. She struggled to match the description of what we wanted and seemed to pick things at random. When I said matte with a high neckline and vintage feel she would pull out a silky dress with a plunging neckline. After we had chosen we left to think of the choice over night. When we returned the girl who had tried to help us did not even remember us dispute having been there the day before. Another sales rep snatched us up and as we approached the till we handed over the business card with the style number. This is when the original rep recognized her name. She and the new rep proceeded to argue about who would receive the commission- right in front of me and my friends. It was very awkward, I am in sales my self and know first hand these discussions do happen, but they should always be talked about privately to avoid alienating the customers. We still went ahead with the purchase and signed an agreement stating the dresses would arrive in July. We were worried about being able to alter the dresses by the end of August but were assured that "the end of July" was a worst case scenario and that they would likely arrive mid July. Months past and finally late in July we returned to the store looking for a update. The sales reps seemed perturbed and said that they were promised by the end of The month and we should be patient. I admit at this point we did inquire if we could cancel the order since we were worried about the time needed for alterations on these particular dresses (the body shapes of my girls are varied and we knew each dress was going to need allot of work). They told us that would not be possible, which of course I understood and didn't press. What bothered me was the contract listed $150 per dress as the deposit but we had paid in full ($300/dress). They made it very clear that canceling didn't mean losing the deposit, it meant losing the entire $900, which in retrospect I should have never paid the full amount in the first place. We of course said we would still be picking them, they promised to call when they arrived. From this point it became harder to contact them. They would answer calls only to be told they would get back to us. Finally I had no word from them at all. I am now 2 days away from my wedding with no bridesmaid dresses. We finally got ahold of them this morning and were told that they were very sorry but could not find our dresses and a manager would be in touch. Hoping for a refund we waited. We revived a call back in the afternoon and were told our dresses were found and we could pick them up. I argued that two days from the wedding was unacceptable and asked for a refund. But was rudely told that it wasn't possible and if I didn't come pick up the dresses they would be forfeit and the store would keep them and my payment. Of course I am quite upset. I'm not being offered any help from this store, and all I can do is warn others avoid making the mistake of entrusting such important purchases to this store. We have dealt with Bridal Centre, David's bridal and the bridal shoppe with our other purchases and have had amazing service. Please seek other options and pass on Novia Bridal. read more

Horrible store ethics and business practices!!!!! Not only did staff lie to me about how a much larger dress could easily be tailored to my smaller size. But they refused to take the dress back, provide me with a new size or store credit when the multiple seamstresses I spoke with said it wasn't worth risking that large of an alteration. The owner refused to do anything expect provide a 10% discount towards a new dress. I spoke with other dress stores after and heard many stories of their unethical business tactics and how they purposely encourage women to buy sizes way to big so they have to spend more at alterations. I had a wonderful experience at Novia Mia! This store felt welcoming and warm and I had my own little room to try on dresses in. Lorena was very helpful and attentive. She actually listened to what I wanted in a dress and respected my budget. She picked out dresses for me (which I loved, as I've been to other dress stores and I had to go through and pick out what I liked which is very overwhelming in a dress store - not to mention I didn't really know what I should be looking for!). I ended up finding 'the one' and couldn't be happier! I now feel like a real bride! :) The service was excellent! After my terrible experience with Ethos, i decided to try finding my Jr. Bridesmaid Dress here. Unfortunately they weren't able to make the dress in colour i needed BUT their service was excellent and had we gotten the dress there, it would have been VERY affordable. Although we liked the dress when it came, there was one appliqué that was missing off the back and the dress came way to big! I find this hard to understand because they supposedly measured to fit my daughters size! This now should have not been our fault but off to alterations recommended by Novia Mia to get it fixed! When we went to pick it up the dress was to short (cut off!) and there was no room to fix it, the underlying lining was cut shorter than the top which gave it a balloon look on the bottom, The applique' was put on the wrong colour and they took it in so much that you could not get into it except by pulling it over your head and your arms held in the air so it could get passed your shoulders! I would strongly recommend if you decide to use this company you would find your own alterationist and be very sure you like the dress as they will not refund all your money even when it was not your fault and the dress was ruined by them! We were very fortunate with only one week before the wedding that another bridal shop was extremely helpful and the alteration was done so professionally! This would have been better had the company refunded all my money as it was solely their mistake, it would have made it a reputable company. I would not recommend this company. read more

I had a terrible experience at Novia Mia. They will promise you whatever it is you want to hear when you are looking and once you pay, everything will go downhill from there. They promised that my dress would be ordered to length and took all the measurements for it. When the dress came in, it was too long and too big and they blamed me for not having voicemail (of course I do). The staff constantly turnover so your file will definitely get lost - including measurements. They will also order a dress that's too big for you and send you to their preferred seamstress who works from home. This seamstress is the owner's mother. I had been to many bridal salons and had tried on MANY dresses. Finally, upon a friend's recommendation, we booked a private one-on-one appointment with Adriana at Novia Mia. Adriana was so friendly and helpful and didn't rush us at all. I think it was the 2nd or 3rd dress I tried on that I, and my mom and friend, fell in love with.The dress was under our $1500 budget and was beautiful. When the dress finally came in 7 months later, there was quite a bit of applique missing all over the dress. But Adriana reassured us that more could easily be ordered, free of charge and would be sewn onto the dress the way we wanted (the way it had looked when I tried it on). I do suggest that when you order your dress, take several good pictures as proof of what it's supposed to look like. Adriana hadn't realized that my dress wasn't right until I showed her the photos we had taken and then she agreed that it needed some things added. Also, the dress I originally tried on had a soft dip in the neckline and then when mine arrived, it had a sweetheart neckline. I was actually happy because I had been wishing I'd ordered that, but this could've made a buyer unhappy if they hadn't wanted sweetheart. In the end, after a couple little fixes by the seamstress (her mom) the dress turned out just right and I loved it. The applique was falling off by the end of the night but I didn't notice until the next day and it wasn't a big deal. read more

I can't be more excited to get married and show the word the 2 amazing dresses made by them. All I can say is this Bridal Shop has made my Shopping Experience the best. When I ordered my first dress I thought they were good because a friend of mine that got married last year loved them and recommended me and a few other girls, but when my dress came I was even happier... Ever since I have been back numerous times, a couple for a second dress for my destination wedding and a few other times with my bridesmaids and Mother of the Groom. My Mother in law was unfortunately not able to find a dress as their mother of the bride selection is limited but we also found my bridesmaid dresses, they have a big selection and very good price points too... We were impressed with Novia when we went in for our Bridesmaid dress selection but either our measurements were taken wrong, or something at the seamstress was mixed up. We had asked for 2 inches to be taken off the measured length, one of 3 dresses were not shortened. Another of the three is noticeably much shorter than the rest. The boning in one dress was shorter than the others, it feels like the boning form wasn't trimmed properly on the other two because those girls can't bend over without something hard bubbling up around their front. Feeling around the dress the back side of the boning form is shorter only to have it abruptly change length on the front. One dress has a seam that was stiched improperly, catching folds along the sides where they shouldn't be and the lining bubbles out along the neckline. To add, I realize these dresses are supposed to be form fitting but two of the girls found the dresses were waaaay too tight. Almost as if they were a size too small in the ribcage. To be fair, weight gain is definitely possible however measurements were taken with clothes on which should have affected the real numbers. I was surprised that an under the bust measurement was not taken which may be a factor in the dress fitting too tight. Lastly, I found there was A LOT of bulk fabric in the satin skirt lining. I don't know if they use a seamstress who takes less care of the bridesmaid dresses than wedding gowns but I had high expectations from great gown reviews and what was supposed to be exciting and expecting them to come out fitting perfect as they are made to measure we are a bit disappointed. However I have read a few bridesmaid dress horror stories but I didn't let that deter my decision to go with Novia for ours. I am happy that Novia has offered to correct the mistakes so there is a good side to this story which is why I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2. If you choose to go with Novia, make sure you verify the measurements, even take a copy with you. And when you pick them up, be extra diligent in examining the craftsmanship. I had a certain dress in mind for my wedding but unfortunately the style and dress I loved was thousands of dollars and I was not willing pay that. I seen Novia Mia's add on Facebook for a sale they were having and I was able to design the exact dress I wanted for under $1000.00 I was very pleased. They were so nice to deal with and so helpful. Only issue was a part of the stitching came out and it was on the front of the dress and I couldn't hide it, not a big deal to me because I wanted my dress very tight so it was basically my own fault. Novia Mia was recommended to me by a friend because of their great service. It is a small boutique, in the basement of a home, which we had to ourselves. Kathryn was very friendly, helpful and patient. I do not like to be pushed at all and she did not do this. Novia Mia is catered to custom-ordered dresses exactly to your measurements (not a size number), your fabric, style, etc., which can be great for a lot of people. For me personally, I have a hard time envisioning something so I like to know exactly what I'm ordering. Along that same note, I did also find it difficult to really envision how a dress would fit me, as most of the dresses were at least several sizes too big. I didn't find that they had to do this at other places I went. Overall great experience. Would recommend. read more

WARNING--buyer beware if purchasing a wedding dress from Novia Mia! Unprofessional, incompetent and rude--describe the staff of this establishment. My daughter's dress arrived grossly oversized , she is a sz 10-12 (wedding dress size) and the dress was ordered in a size 20. She is 5'5" and they made her pay $150.00 for a longer length which she then had to pay $300.00 to have cut off. SURPRIZE--the alterations are done by one of the mother's of the owners who was unable to make all of the HUGE adjustments needed for a "way too big" dress--but still able to charge $300.00 for a grossly botched alteration. Two weeks before the wedding and my daughter still didn't have a dress--but lots of attitude and denials from Novia Mia! Ended up taking dress to Gangnam Tailor (downtown Calgary) who picked out all the botched stiching and remade the dress to fit my daughter beautifully. This is a wedding dress horror story that ended with a happy ending--my daughter looked beautiful in her gown--with no thanks to Novia Mia. We would have been better off ordering it on-line and having a professional make any needed alterations. Or, Gangnam Tailor also makes custom wedding dresses. read more

As with many other brides, I tried on an innumerable amount of dresses from every bridal boutique imaginable. I would find one I liked, and then it would be 2 to 3 times my budget, not including any alterations. That was when I stumbled upton Novia MIa after clicking on a facebook ad. Adriana was very patient with me, and helped me design my dream dress, even when I decided to change the design completely. WHen the dress arrived, I was very happy with it! I had lost a bit of weight in my hips since I was first measured, so I had to have that altered, but that wasn't too big of a deal. The only thing I wish was that the dress was made to your height, not just your measurements because my alterations are going to cost almost $700 because the lace needs to be removed and moved up, and all the beading has to be replaced as well, or at least I wish I knew this before I added the beading to my dress.
