The first thing I saw when entering the Famcamp was an overflowing dumpster; grossly overflowing. After setting up, our first trip is to the bathhouse. My wife informed me the ladies room was disgusting, and there was only one roll of toilet paper in the entire restroom. That was one more than in the men's room. The men's room also has more than half of the light fixtures inoperable (which did imrove the appearance). The grounds are also lacking basic maintenance, with trash and broken limbs lying about in various places. There is evidence of past improvements, such as concrete pads for the sites. It appears that the current leadership for the Famcamp has no interest in maintaining it.

Very disappointing experience. The amenities are unacceptable. The bathrooms and showers are…read moreunsanitary and unusable, and there is no laundry facility on the RV grounds. The game room has no heat, making it unusable in cold weather. During the recent storm, the RV area was not cleared or maintained. The rest of the base roads were passable, but the RV grounds were not, leaving us effectively stuck and unable to move our RV. Despite not being able to access or use our RV site due to these conditions, we were still charged. To make matters worse, management has been unreachable and has not returned calls. For a facility on a military installation, this level of upkeep and customer service is unacceptable. I cannot recommend staying here until basic sanitation, maintenance, and communication issues are addressed.

Fish and Wildlife Refuge [Laurel MD]…read more Unfortunately, because of the Federal Holiday (MLK) at the time of our visit the Visitor Center was closed but we briefly connected with nature and just explored a little bit of the area which offered 13,000 of wetlands, meadow, and forest. Visitor Center hours are from Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00a to 4:00p. The grounds are open sunrise to sunset except on Tuesdays (closes at 4:00p). We followed the hiking trail on the South Tract. We followed the trail... the lake on the right side. I was too scared to walk on the frozen lake but we saw a couple walking on it while taking selfie photos. The scenery is beautiful in winter time with the snow. We don't see snow like this in California. There were interpretive signs on the trails. During winter season we should see a wide variety of waterfowl; American Tree, Swamp, and Savannah Sparrows; and Rusty Blackbirds on the lake shores... we were on the lookout but I guess we weren't looking hard enough as we did not spot any. So what is this place? It's not a National Park but is one of the largest science and environmental education center in the Department of Interior created to conserve and protect wildlife and wildlands through research. It has informational exhibits that range from learning about different wildlife to man's relationship with nature. The trails themselves are really nice, and diverse. You'll have an opportunity to walk through the woods, the water, and open fields. They're well manicured and labeled, so there's no getting lost. You'll also have an opportunity to see some beautiful wildlife. There were lots of beautiful birds flying around, and if you look down, you're guaranteed to see some tiny frogs. There's probably more, but that's all we saw. I definitely think this park is worth checking out if you live in the area, or are visiting. It was a lovely afternoon.

A 3 hour tour was just right. Our son was excited to learn some sailing. The rest of us just relaxed to the sound of the wind and waves! To add to the great day, the sail starts and ends at the Deep Creek Restaurant on the Magothy River. To judge by the crowd, their Sunday Brunch is popular. We opted to take snacks on the sail and eat afterward on the patio. Everything was very good! Calamari was especially good. If you travel to Annapolis from west of DC through town, you will be happy to know the route is now fixed! The southwest freeway to 695 then to 295 north is open and marked! This is a really big deal! I'm a native, and this route has been broken all my life. In summary, a great day on the water! And an adventure to remember with cool pictures, no bruises, and good food!

I asked at the Visitors center if we can reschedule and was told no. However, it appears that you can buy tickets the same day so it's probably in your best interest to buy in person. My husband was able to find the trolley and see where it boards and said that a bunch of people were standing (just FYI). Tip: Dont buy advance tickets, the company will not reschedule if you're delayed due to traffic and local street closures.

While spending Fourth of July weekend on a solo adventure in St. Michaels, I decided to drive over to Oxford after hearing it was worth exploring. I found a parking spot, got out of my car and started taking in the waterfront. That's when I realized I had parked directly beside the Oxford terminal of the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry. I hadn't researched the ferry. Honestly...I didn't even know it existed. As I stood there trying to figure out what exactly I was looking at, I noticed a sign advertising a special fireworks cruise that very evening. The ferry would head out onto the water so passengers could watch Oxford's Fourth of July fireworks from the river. The price? Twelve whole dollars. I just stood there staring at the sign thinking..."Wait...THIS is a thing?!" There was only one problem. The ferry was leaving in about two hours. And I didn't have a ticket. And there was no one around. I immediately pulled out my phone to buy a ticket, but online sales had already closed, which made complete sense. I figured I'd missed my chance. While I was standing there wondering what to do next, a gentleman happened to walk by. I asked if he knew anything about the ferry and whether there was any chance I could still get a ticket. As it turns out...he was the captain. Because apparently that's just how my adventures go! He smiled, told me there would probably still be room for walk-on passengers and suggested I come back closer to departure time. Challenge accepted! I set an alarm, spent the next couple of hours wandering around Oxford and made absolutely sure I was back at the terminal when he told me to return. Sure enough...they welcomed me aboard! I happily paid for my ticket and climbed onto the ferry with one thought running through my head. "I cannot believe this is actually happening." What followed was one of the coolest travel experiences I've ever had! Watching fireworks explode over the water from the deck of a ferry was something I didn't even know belonged on my bucket list until I experienced it. The reflections dancing across the river...The darkness surrounding the boat... The fireworks exploding so close that you could actually feel the booms in your chest...It was absolutely magical! I honestly don't know if I spent more time watching the fireworks or grinning from ear to ear. What made the experience even more memorable, though, wasn't just the fireworks. It was the people. The crew didn't have to find room for one random traveler who showed up without a reservation two hours before departure. But they did. Every person I interacted with was welcoming, kind and genuinely happy to help make my evening happen. I don't know if they realized it at the time, but they created one of my favorite memories from my entire Fourth of July weekend. PRO TIP: If you're visiting Oxford, look at the ferry schedule before you arrive. Whether you're taking your vehicle across to Bellevue, walking on as a passenger or getting lucky enough to catch one of their special event cruises, don't make the same mistake I did and discover it by accident. Although...maybe a little bit of serendipity is part of the magic. The next time I'm back in Oxford, riding the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry will already be on my itinerary. Next time, though...I'll actually know it's there!

He said it was no problem, he could fix it. Gave us the password to the wifi and our key. He told us that we could cast the game onto a tv if we needed to. Awesome! We bought two bottle koozies which, if you don't bring any- this is a must for a hot day. There are maybe 10 rooms to stay in. It's motel style, your door opens to the outside. Our room was super clean. #5. And opened to a sandy area and a volleyball net. A couple groups of Adirondack chairs in the sand. A couple fire pits also. This place is very cool! It's on the water of the Chesapeake Bay. You can drive here or boat here. There are 4 bars. 3 are outside, 1 inside. Although I'm not sure why. They're all very close to each other. Live music today (Sunday) 2p-6p Also on Friday and Saturday While at the bar outside we ordered fried green beans that came with a spicey dip- and were given a small pager that told us when our food was ready - IT WAS delicious! We started a tab at an outside bar and were told that we could order at any of the 4 bars. We went inside when a baseball game was about to start. They have no baseball game channels. Jake tried to help us for a few minutes but got frustrated and walked away. I'm not sure where that went wrong. While inside at the bar we ordered food. Cheeseburger and fries, and wings. Both delicious. Still no game. It was on direct tv. Jake didn't know the password. After a lot of signal searching on my cellphone. (No signal at the inside bar) we found a friend that gave us their log in to direct tv. This is a cozy little local spot. I'd compare the stay to a cottage at a camp ground. It was clean and close to the bar. Walking distance. To sum it up. It was a new experience. A fun stay. Everything except that 4 inning bump in the road when Jake made us feel like we were bothering him.
