Without notice or previous appointment I showed up at Nunez' with a particular car project: to glue together and repair the back panels of my Audi's front seats. Not only they immediately gave me a fair quote but they also explained and showed me how they would have fixed the issue. Less than two months ago, my husband and I were in the market for two accent chairs to complete our living room. We recently procured two vintage chairs from Urban Americana located in LB that was the style we wanted but not the color. I was absolutely not disappointed. Not only did I get the perfect fabric for the chairs, the turnaround time was so short that we had our chairs within two weeks time. I went to the shop I was initially going to get my moto seat covered at in Hollywood (I already had a custom seat cover made from another company) and it was STILL sitting in the same spot it was a week before, untouched. I searched the areas in LA County to identify an upholstery shop to have my 20yo Modern Art Deco sofa and 2 accent chairs reupholstered. I visited 4 shops, one of which was Nunez (who was highly referred to me by a colleague). Nunez was the only shop where I felt comfortable & reassured that they would a good job. Well, I am so happy I chose Nunez. I first called and Nunez answered. I told him what I was needing. He asked me to text pics to get a quote. He gave me a quote that was in the same ballpark as what others had quoted (about $100 higher). So I made an appt to go to the shop. When you first walk into the shop, it appears messy. But, rest assured they take great care of you & your furniture. Mr. Nunez gave me lots of swatch booklets to look through. I found what I liked. We then finalized my pricing, did an invoice, and scheduled a pickup date. I paid half down. He promised that I'd get my furniture back in 3 to 4 weeks. He was right on time, and I was amazed as most shops give you one date but don't deliver/finish until long after the date. So I was highly impressed. And, oh, my reupholstered furniture was beyond what I had imagined. It is beautiful and stitched well. He even made extra pillows with leftover material as a bonus. I am extraordinarily pleased. I used the chair very little but nevertheless the rollers which underlay the poor quality vinyl, center back panel wore through the back panel. The manufacturer does not sell replacement parts--period. I reside in Michigan, but regularly I am in Long Beach, and I am aware of the skilled workmen of Long Beach. Mr. Nunez is sensational! The picture doesn't reveal that the center back panel is attached to the chair by four zippers which are each 1/2 attached to each of the panel and the chair. If the replacement zippers were misplaced even slightly by Mr.Nunez, I would not have been able to reattach the panel to the chair once I was back at home. The five stars are for the quality of the work. They do a fantastic job. One caveat: you may need to be specific if you need the item by a specific date, and you may want to follow up a few days before. I'm not sure that they are organized in the calendar sense of the word. But if what is most important is quality work, you should stop looking and go here. They will pick/up deliver in the local area, or you can handle it yourself. They have a good selection of upholstery fabrics to choose from, or you can purchase your own (you should find out from them how much they need.) They can also replace your foam, rebuild cushions, etc. They know their work. Have you heard that it takes 10,000 hours to develop true expertise at something? These guys have their 10,000 hours in. I found Nunez Upholstery last year when a relative asked for my help finding an upholsterer to do her heavy-as-hell fold-out couch. Good bones but the fabric was getting worn. They picked up and delivered it, including navigating a tight staircase. They did a beautiful job. More recently, I had an antique high-backed rocking chair reupholstered, and they even cleaned and polished the wood, etc. It is equally beautiful. Each piece was in the $350-$450 range, but I imagine that size of item, fabric and delivery may make a difference, so just use that as a benchmark. read more

I brought a battered chair I found at a thrift store and some beautiful fabric to Nunez in hopes of having them create something exquisite out of something old. This review is way overdue, but I can't speak highly enough of these guys work! I was building a custom 1981 Suzuki GN400, and upholstering the seat pan I made was the only part of the build that I didn't want to mess with myself. Went down the Nunez's, briefly explained what I wanted, and left them with the metal pan and foam cushion I'd shaped. A week later I got a call that it was done. I drove straight down and pretty much fell in love with my new seat. It was exactly what I'd envisioned, but even better. the attention to detail was amazing.
