I went on the site and saw pictures of the Cavaliers that were up for adoption. They were really so cute that I google this breed and fell in love with them. So I applied to foster a dog and about a week later they called and told me that they had just found out about this puppy mill in MO that had been shut down and they were driving there to pick up 20 dogs and puppies. So they needed fosters right away. I drove to Indiana and picked up the dog (puppy) that I was fostering. Her name was Fergie and she was 6 months old and in perfect health. Well, of course I knew I was going to fail at being a foster because the second I met Fergie...I knew she was mine. So about a week after I was fostering her I finally broke the news to Lucky Star that I was going to adopt Fergie. The whole process was very easy and what a great feeling to know she was rescued away from a bad life. They pay all the vet bills for being fixed, a complete check up, all their shots and teeth checked. They do ask for a donation when you adopt. But they do have alot of vet bills as some of the dogs that come out of puppy mills aren't always healthy because they were so abused. A small cost for saving the life of a beautiful, snuggable, kissable puppy. I want to rescue a bunch more, but I am at the limit of two dogs right now. Perfect on the car ride home, minimal whining when crated, perfect on a leash, very gentle with our grandson - completely calm around loud noises, such as the thunder we experienced this morning. As far as the negative reviews, all I can say is the current owner, Chris, is the farthest thing from what people say about the old owner. He was passionate about the dogs, extremely patient with my wife and me - answering all our questions, including any "negatives" that may impact our decision. All the dogs we saw were happy, well-behaved, and energetic. The store and training room were both very clean. We could not be happier with our puppy, or our experience with Von Dietrich.

Normally M.C.H.S. lets you adopt domesticated cats for pets from them that will be indoors…read moreprimarily. But I was looking for what is known as working cats or barn cats. These are feral cats, not domesticated. I am surrounded by cornfields and when the corn is harvested they chase all the mice out of the fields. I filled out an application for two kittens and they said they do regularly have working cats available. It didn't even take two weeks and they called. I could accept only two if I wanted but they told me they had found a mother and four two month old kittens. They asked if I was willing to take the whole family and I was because as they said the mother will teach the kittens how to hunt the mice. By the way if you are familiar with their history, these are the cats found by the Knead The Dough bakery on Morgan St. Now what really impressed me was that they delivered the cats to me and set them up with a cage, food and water bowls, litter box, litter, and food (which I declined since I had already purchased a lot of food because I knew they were coming after the vet visit). All five animals were spayed or neutered. There was no adoption charge or fees of any kind since I guess its possible the cats could run away. But the reason for the cage is to keep them caged for 10-14 days to get used to us feeding and watering them so they won't try to go back to their former home. All they ask is to call them when I am finished with their equipment and they will come and get it. I also received paperwork for each cat with their names and date of rabies shot, etc. Their names are Yvonne, mama; Yoyo, female and very shy; Yodel, male and playful; Yeti, male and the most friendly, letting us pet him after only two days; and Yoshi, male and a tad shy but curious. Cute names huh? I did make a donation out of my two garage sales proceeds so thanks to all who bought something. This is what the grand kids wanted. And I have added on to their cage with two dog pens I already owned so their living area is now three times the size of their original cage which is all temporary anyway. Big thanks to Morgan County Humane Society for making all of this happen for us all. These felines will be well looked after.
