The Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout, perched 1,200 feet above Oʻahu's Windward Coast, is famous for panoramic views and extreme wind, acting as a natural wind tunnel. Historically, it is the 1795 site of the Battle of Nuʻuanu, where King Kamehameha I unified Oʻahu by driving hundreds of opposing warriors off the cliffs. Most recently, on April 8, 2026, Hawaii anesthesiologist Dr. Gerhardt Konig, 47, was convicted of attempted manslaughter after trying to throw his wife off a cliff during a 2025 hike near Nu'uanu Pali Lookout. I have no doubt in my mind that this would be a GORGEOUS view on a clear sunny day with wind blowing so hard that it'll hold you up. Sadly, my April trip was full of cloudy skies and torrential rain. The rain was pouring down sideways and it felt like I was standing in a cloud as there were fast-moving low clouds. White as far as the eye can see... It was beautiful in its own way. Still, I appreciated Yelp's Most Prolific, my twinsie, "Auntie" Nadine C. took me here and laughed with me as we were getting battered by fat pellets of rain and chuckling as we watched a chicken stand in the rain like they were the main character in an emo music video. I'm pretty sure she was going to spartan kick me off the cliff though like Konig. ;D

It's a beautiful lookout point that's quick to check out. There are signs describing the history of the area. It's always quite windy but you get wonderful views of the windward side of the island. Free parking for Hawai'i residents and pay-to-park stations nearby for visitors who are not residents. I do always love stopping by when I'm in the area to gaze down on the views below.

Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout (aka Nuʻuanu Pali State Wayside) sits 1,200 feet above sea level overlooking the windward side of Oahu. It's situated on a cliff and is a short paved walk from the parking area. Parking costs $7 per vehicle for non-residents and is free for Hawaii residents. There's enough space for commercial vehicles and the parking prices for them start at $15. This site was the location of the Battle of Nuʻuanu between Kamehameha and rival forces in the late 1700s. His men forced the opposing side off the cliff resulting in a total of 400 men lost in this battle. To this day this is one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. It was so bloody that when the Pali Highway road was built, workers found 800 skulls believing to be from warriors who lost their lives from the cliff above. The views were nice but the history of site was magnificent. Note that when you leave, beware of which exit you take because it leads to the highway. If you take the wrong exit it'll be a long detour to turn the other way around.

The views here are nothing short of spectacular. Nuuanu Pali Lookout offers the absolute best views on the island of Oahu! The pictures do not do it adequate justice. A word of caution, it gets quite windy up there so be prepared for it.

Hawaii has many things you can do in the water but this is something different! Woah! Do not bring a kite here! or a paper plane! or a parachute a hat or umbrella! and dont drop your phone! It's so windy! Realy short fun experience! Lots of interesting information and history that must be read! Parking is pretty easy just be aware of drivers. $7 dollars at the kiosk for parking! Locals drive safe but most tourists don't so be watchful and aware! There are no restrooms and not food or beverage spots. Its just a windy hsitorical spot to appreciate and enjoy!

Pali Lookout will always have one of the best breathtaking and windiest views of the kaneohe valley area. It's a super short walk from the parking lot to the lookout. There are some informative signs posted about some history of the Pali. Don't come up here at night, be respectful, don't take anything, and the saying is, don't bring pork items to the Pali. Please follow the signs and don't enter past areas that are dangerous due to falling rocks, etc. It's super windy so I'd watch your headwear and dress appropriately. I've seen hats, wigs fly off the cliff and I've see women dresses fly up so high everyone saw them completely naked so don't be that person lol. Super small parking lot. Locals are free and non-residents must pay for parking, but it's such a short attraction, as long as you're in and out within 5-10mins, I think you'll be fine. It's your risk lol.

Amazing views. Free parking for Hawaii residents. Paid - self pay machine for non residents. $7. Credit or debit only. No hiking area or facilities. Some jungle fowl in the area looking for free handouts of food.

Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout has stunning panoramic views of Oʻahu's windward coast, with dramatic cliffs, lush valleys, and sweeping ocean vistas. Rich in history site of a major battle during King Kamehameha's unification of the islands. Plenty of parking with a small fee. It's usually super windy, but the quick stop is absolutely worth it. Just a short drive from Honolulu, it's a great way to take in Hawaii's breathtaking landscape in under 30 minutes.

As of July 2025, parking is free for Hawai'i residents and Military. The short walk from the parking lot to the lookout is paved, and no hiking is necessary. The scenic Windward views are spectacular! It can be quite windy and bit cold, so bring a jacket just in case.

This is a review of the Manoa Christmas Parade 2015…read more It has been many moons since we took da kid to the Manoa parade when he was a squirt. In those days, the parade was relatively short, less than 30 minutes as I recall. My how things have changed. This year we took our little fur ball princess to da parade, and boy was she in awe of the festivities. The parade now seems to run close to an hour and there appears to be a more diverse group of marchers. From school bands to financial institutions, and all groups in between, the Manoa Christmas Parade, because it is on less busy streets, has a more neighborhood and personal feel as compared to say, the Kaimuki Christmas parade. A highlight of the parade has to be Mrs. Claus, rocking away on her chair as she passes the crowd in the back of her vintage truck. This is a clever take on the Claus tradition, something the crowds seem to look forward to. Another highlight was this year's Grand Marshall and Lion Stanley Takamine. Way to go Lion Stan! Many thanks to all who participated in this great parade institution in beautiful Manoa Valley to the delight of the many families who lined the streets watch. Happy holidays to everyone!

Touristing on the Island of Oahu…read more.. Kailua is a trendy town on the Windward side of the island. Most visitors stay in Honolulu which is on the South Shore. Kailua is north of Honolulu and Waikiki... about a half hours drive away... The most direct route would be through the Pali Tunnels. Some Hawaii residents think that Kailua is a tourist town. There are many things here that would attract out-of-towners - such as Kailua Beach and its ocean activities such as Stand Up Paddie Boarding and Kayaking. (Lanikai Beach is also beautiful and secluded.) Shopping would be another positive aspect of Kailua since there are many cute boutiques, big stores like Target; and necessities such as the US Post office, Foodland, Safeway, and Times Supermarkets, and credit unions like Aloha Pacific. As a resident, I enjoy Kailua for its foodie adventures. Besides Pieology, Over Easy, Uproll, Mahaloha Burger, Mother Bakery, and Boots and Kimos, there are small businesses like Agnes' Portuguese Bakery with fresh, hot malasadas; Baci Bistro with fine Italian cuisine; and Wilson Store with yummy snacks and refreshing shave ice. The Beet Box has healthy, delicious vegetarian options while Kaohao County Store serves deli sandwiches using Boar's Head quality products. Don't forget to go to the Farmer's Market on Sunday mornings at Pali Lanes and Thursday evenings at Kailua Town! It's really fun to go to Kailua. Sometimes it reminds me of Pasadena, California - especially areas where there's metered street parking... lol! Kailua usually has sunny and warm weather with cooling trade winds. It's no wonder why President Obama enjoys vacationing in Kailua!

I've been to this restaurant a dozen times in the past and have always had a decent experience. I…read moretook my family and mother-in-law on December 30th, however, and it was pretty miserable. Among the issues we encountered: * For two of the items we ordered off the menu, the server came back to our table to explain that the kitchen was "too busy" and as a result these items were not available. Neither was a complicated dish, they were simple appetizers. I've never heard this excuse at any restaurant before. What was especially annoying was that these were the two items ordered by my kids, both of whom are picky eaters on top of dietary restrictions, and therefore had limited options to begin with. * The menu says that substitutions are possible for a $3 charge. For a restaurant this expensive that's a little obnoxious, but fine, I was happy to pay it. Here again, we were told that the kitchen was "too busy" so they couldn't do any substitutions. That included the ridiculously simple request of putting a steak's sauce on the side rather than on top of the steak. I'm paying $55 for a 12-ounce steak and wanted to pay an additional $3 so that they didn't smother it in a sauce that my kid couldn't eat, but that was too much to ask, apparently. I ordered a steak for myself and asked if I could substitute a different vegetable, but this request got the same response: "too busy". I was even willing to pay the full cost of that vegetable as a side dish, but they were unwilling to accommodate. * When our steaks did arrive, my son's was literally almost raw. (In fairness, mine was a perfect medium rare.) I like rare steaks but this was ordered medium rare and was not even warm all the way through. It probably would be considered "blue rare" by standard definitions. * My wife paid $32 for the "scallops and shrimp" entree. It came with 3 scallops and 2 shrimp. Seriously? How is that a meal, much less a $32 meal? * We ordered three drinks (two glasses of wine and one cocktail). After 20 minutes of waiting, none had arrived. We needed to go up to the bar to order them there instead. * I very politely asked to speak to a manager so that I could explain our experience. I have restaurant industry experience and figured they needed to know about all of this. I was promised that a manager would call me within 2-3 days. It has been 6 weeks and I have not received a call. Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath. I won't ever be going back to Assaggio.
