Besides the lengthy wait since it was Father's day and i didn't make reservations, my experience was top tier... I usually go to the Mililani Assagios since i'm from North Shore but i figured let's hit kailua something different... One of the best choices i made... I had an excellent caesar salad , with roasted peppers and my entree was the steak and scampi combo.... medium rare and it was perfect , colossal sized shrimp still au dente like they could do no wrong... wait staff were perfect despite it being super busy they came through clutch ....My wife had the Chicken Anchovy olio?? Bullseye!!! I will definitely drive from Laie to here anytime to dine.... it's better than the Mililani and town location straight up ....

We had a large group,10+, and the service was great. No problems there. Ordered the NY steak and it was hot but I was hungry and ate it. Sauce was very good. Roasted vegetables were oily but retained a bit of crunch. Ask for sauce on the side for the steak or plate the vegetables separately. The heavy oil and the natural juices from the veggies eventually overtook the nice steak sauce. Keep it separate. I love roasted vegetables but too much oil was used. The taste of the NY Steak with roasted veggies was delish but the oil of veggies overtook the plate.

I went here for a family birthday dinner and it was such a nice experience! The interior of the restaurant feels classy but not too fancy and the workers were friendly. We had a few appetizers to share such as the fried mozzarella cheese and the fried calamari. Both were great especially with the marinara sauce it came with. For my entree, I ordered the large portion of the chicken alla saltimbocca and it was delicious and so much food! The chicken was crispy and moist and the mushrooms and white wine butter pasta was so good with it too. I gave a little bit to others for them to try and still had plenty of leftovers! Overall, a pretty solid choice if you want Italian food in the Kailua area!

My parent came to visit and requested to return to Assaggio's! This was their 3rd time at this location. Which is at a very convenient spot in Kailua. Food is always so scrumptious! Portions are very generous and very shareable. Staff is lovely. Our server had said she had been working at this location for 13 years and staff was like family. I will definitely be eating here again in the future

Service was good, our waitress was friendly. We made reservations for a large party and were seated right away. I ordered prosciutto melone which is my favorite, it was just alright here, nothing to write home about. I also had eggplant alla parmigiana, also, just alright. Some of the other dishes that my friends had they absolutely hated. The nail in the coffin for me was the spumoni, it apparently is served this way at all the assagio locations, vanilla ice cream with bits of dried fruit jellies and chocolate chips.

Angel hair pasta with shrimp and clam sauce. It's not on the menu and I had asked for it.

Ask the Community - Assaggio Italian Restaurant

    Are reservations needed?

No reservations are needed, but it's recommended to ensure you get a table.

Do they serve gluten-free pasta or pizza?

They do not offer gluten-free pasta and they do not server pizza. However, they have veggies, rice or potatoes that you get as a side instead.

Anyone know if they deliver to kaneohe?

I would check with bite squad or other food delivery companies

Would this be a place for a nicer dressed up kinda of dinner date?

One if the few places in Kailua you can dress up and not look out of place.

    Is there a corkage fee?

Aloha...yes, they allow outside beverages, and yes there is a corkage fee. I don't remember how much, but I remember it was a lot. Best just to order from their bar...

Overall, this was…read morea pretty mediocre dining experience, but the biggest issue -- and the reason we would not recommend this restaurant -- was food safety. The restaurant itself is very small and, honestly, felt poorly managed on the Sunday night we visited. It appeared the manager had staffed the place almost entirely with high school-aged kids. To be fair, they were all polite and friendly, but they clearly were not trained professional waitstaff. The hostess in particular seemed completely overwhelmed and unsure of what she was doing. The food itself was average at best for the price point. Ambiance was okay, nothing particularly memorable one way or the other. We probably would have left thinking "meh, it was fine" except for one major problem. My wife ordered the seafood spaghetti, and the New Zealand mussels in the dish were BAD. Not "a little fishy" bad -- genuinely spoiled bad. The smell and taste were immediately obvious. We brought it to the manager's attention, and her response honestly shocked me more than the mussels themselves. She casually explained that sometimes they get "bad batches of mussels and you can't tell," as if serving spoiled mussels is just an unavoidable normal occurrence. That is not an acceptable answer from a restaurant serving seafood. To their credit, they did remove the dish from the bill, which was the minimum they should have done. Unfortunately, later that night my wife ended up vomiting after dinner. Thankfully it was not severe enough to ruin our vacation or require medical attention, but it absolutely confirmed our concern that something was wrong with the food. At the end of the day, average food and mediocre service are one thing. Serving spoiled shellfish and responding to the complaint with a shrug is another. We would not return.

They have a bunch of different special options, with most featuring local ingredients. A highlight is the Bee's Knees with spicy honey, pepperoni, and pesto; rich but light. Absolutely blown away…read more This place was recommended to my partner and I by multiple people so we put in the reservation. Upon arrival, we were asked for a password (which he could not find in his emails hot fortunately they gave us grace lol) then let in. The place was simply lit and each table had a literal gas lamp lighting the space. On the second floor there was a man playing the sax. It was SO gorgeous, Our waitress was great, we were easily influenced by all her suggestions and ended up getting a great meal. We started with drinks. My partner didn't hear her say that the bottom of the menu was "spirit forward" and ordered a VERY strong drink. It actually made for a very giggly and eventful dinner so it was a very happy mistake lol. I got the espresso martini. It was a little creamier than I expected but still tasted really good! I'd order again. Our first appetizer was the Wagyu carpaccio- topped with cilantro (the menu said dill but I saw/ tasted none), fried capers, and caviar. It was surprisingly light and refreshing, basically a meat salad. A beautiful start to our meal. Our second (yes, second) appetizer was the escargot and bone marrow. This was our personal star of the show. A complete 180 to the carpaccio. This was rich, heavy, and decadent. The tomato added a nice balance of acidity to counteract the fatty bone marrow. The escargot was cooked perfectly, no chew but soft and buttery. One of the best bites of my life. The salad it came with was just we needed with it. After this, there was quite a wait until our main entree. A fire dancer came, and danced on the bar counter. I'd say we waited a good 20 minutes until it came out. But we were only impatient because we had plans after dinner. Our main course, which we shared, was the King Arthur- beef Wellington with a side of crab legs. The crab did come out during our appetizers which I appreciated. I only ordered this because I never had beef Wellington before and really wanted to try it LOL, my partner said it was better than the one at hella kitchen! The waitress also talked us into ordering a side of Mac and cheese, and thank GOD she did. It came out piping hot and saucy. There was a slight note of truffle, but it wasn't overpowering, and a nice crust of cheese and breadcrumbs on top. Everything was delicious and generously portioned. You definitely get a bang for your buck. It's a hefty buck but it's so worth it.
