Martin is a true healer & educator. I had my 1st appointment with him yesterday. We sat at his…read morewelcoming home's dining table as he explained what he does. With his iPad he further educated me with 3D pictures & videos of our anatomy i.e. levels of muscles and fascia etc. Then the actual massage was in a lovely room upstairs and on the best massage table I have ever been on. Scientific, educational, professional and healing atmosphere was like no other massage I have ever had. I will be back for sure. Today my body feels "smoother & looser" which is fantastic.

I found Martin through friends I visited in Haarlem who raved about him. There are steep stairs to second floor massage room. I scheduled my initial 2 hour massage and received an additional 30 minutes which was fantastic, AND massage time (2.5 hours) is actually table time. It was 124 euros which is very reasonable compared to prices in US, especially with US tipping culture which is not in NL. You can definitely tip is you insist though if it is financially feasible for you. :) My massage was focused on trigger point mostly with some cupping and myofascial release massage too. It was awesome! I do like deep tissue and trigger point massage, the cupping and myofascial was new to me and really added to my massage therapy. Martin explained what he was doing during the massage and checked in frequently about pressure. He does like to work on a knot that he finds before moving onto to another area to help release it so this was not the typical full body massage process that I've had at other places before. It was so good to get actual muscle knots released during the session even though he didn't have time to move down to my legs. You do need to be direct and communicate your level of pressure and the level of discomfort you are willing to enjoy as he works on your muscles. After my first session, I was a bit sore the next day which is usual for me since, especially since it had been several years since I had had a massage. I did book a second 2 hour massage a week later and had him work on my legs. Again, it was amazing! I highly recommend Martin! Booking was super easy on his website, even in Dutch, and I received several follow-up emails in English. Do not hesitate to let him get his hands on you! You will not be disappointed!

Stayed here for a whole week based on a review from Rick Steve's book on Amsterdam. We were moving…read moreto Central Asia for two years and stopped mid-way for a week's vacation before plunging into a life of hardship, relative to life in the US. Hence, we showed up with quite a lot of luggage - 3 large, 2 medium and 2 small bags plus 2 day packs. We let them know ahead of time that this would be the case. Well. We arrive to check in and the hotel owner stood outside laughing at us and our bags. He did not make one single effort to help us lug our bags up to the second floor. His wife looked at us continually throughout the week-long stay with disdain, and snidely referred to all our luggage. We kept telling them we were moving to a country (Tajikistan) for two years and needed to bring lots of clothes, but they acted as if we were stupid Americans who were going to wear all these clothes in Amsterdam/Haarlem. Though his wife was continually rude and mostly pretended not to understand English, the hotel owner was not always rude and made a fairly good cup of joe. Breakfast is the exact same thing every day, bread, ham, boiled egg, cereal, juice. After three days you are wanting something different. The cat is the only bright spot in the whole place, as the amenities are fairly poor. No comparison to the hotel in Delft that Steves recommends at the same price. Due to the way we were treated, we did not spend one extra penny in the hotel. Every night we ate and drank out on the town, spending quite lavishly at times, but not one extra dime at Amadeus. So I'm guessing they lost out on close to $800 worth of extra business. We loved Haarlem but will stay elsewhere next time.
