We have wedding etiquete as vendors, and this fella crossed many lines. Stay with me for the climax. He was the DJ for a recent wedding in Montebello. It appears according to his social media presence and his overall online presence he's a real veteran. His energy is great, however, he put the bride and groom in the terrible predicament of breaching contract with several other vendors. He brings his own media team (photo/video) when a veteran wedding vendor like this fella knows that professional photographers and videographers 9 times out of 10 have an exclusivity clause so as to not have interference with the work they do. He sent our bride a text message late on the eve of her big day when he knew she was doing ALL the planning and coordinating and didn't ask about bringing media for the purposes of his friends portfolio and his own marketing material. Rather he told her what he was going to do, and being totally flustered and having hands full on the night before her biggest day, she overlooked the message. Coordinators are to receive those sorts of messages and requests at such a time of night prior to the wedding day. He was broken the news (by the bride) just before the reception right after his extra bodies showed up and protested that his text message was sufficient to force the bride and groom to legally breach their contracts with the photo team as well as video. He was livid and lost his cool. Unfortunately the video team relies on working with the DJ so the couple can have the best video and audio for that video. They want to save the memories of their parents and loved ones giving their toasts and speeches. These are priceless once in a lifetime memories. The DJ controls the sound system. Here's where I'll be very careful and only present what I know. The video team placed a recorder on the DJ's wireless microphone. These things don't fall off. I have my own experience working with several video professionals who use the same sort of device. The mariachi sang into the mic and we watched him hand the mic off after an hour or two of performing with the recorder still secured. He himself, the mariachi, attested to the recorder being secured to the microphone when he returned it to the DJ. When it was time for the big toasts and speeches, the recorder was gone. The DJ said he had no idea there was anything in the mic. He just knew "it was his microphone." The bride and groom won't be getting the memories of their loved ones' speeches. Further, the missing equipment was worth $250. It's worthless to anyone because the receiver is unique to it and the video team still had possession of the receiver. In fact the receiver was giving off feedback for a while before someone turned it off later in the night, which indicates it was camped out near some speakers or a speaker. The only speakers in the room that night were on each side of the DJ booth. Maybe the worst part is that the bride paid for the equipment's disappearance out of her own pocket. I don't know where the recorder ended up and who turned it off, but the unprofessional manner when he tried to pressure the bride into breaching her legal contracts with other vendors, the disregard and the rudeness with which he snapped at the video team when they sought his help to retrieve something that was handed over to him at some point... I can't recommend this kind of vendor for any sort of party or wedding. I'm sorry he was hired. I'm still baffled at his anger when he was asked if he had seen the recorder. I was hoping for the sake of the couple, he would have had a much different response and action to help despite having already lost his cool on the bride when she asked him to send his extra photo and video friends home. It's so hard not to want to tie the two terrible happenings together because of the similar responses he had each time. read more

Let me start by giving everyone getting married and looking for a DJ a little advice, don't leave this as one of your last things to do.
