The procedure itself was fast (less than 30 seconds per eye) and the staff was incredibly competent and nice. I think they could tell I was nervous (who wouldn't be?!) because they made sure I was very comfortable and explained the whole process over and over again. If you qualify for LASIK, this is the place in Anchorage to go get the procedure done.

I've been a patient of Dr. Bancroft even since my old doctor retired about 10 years ago. I looked for, and found a single doctor office with personal, attentive service with Dr. Bancroft. My husband and I actually like Dr. Bancroft BETTER than our old doctor. He does some pretty cool, thorough tests our previous doc never did, and there's no additional charges. He's EXTREMELY THOROUGH and friendly. He's staff has their act together as well. He also has a second location in the valley, which is convenient for people around the region. I'm surprised more people don't know about Dr. Bancroft, he's a best kept secret when it comes to eye care!

On the down side they manually tested my eye pressure for macular deterioration . ( actually touched my eyeball ) I don't know of any other eye care office that doesn't have the more modern machine that shoots a spurt of air into your eye . I was also underwhelmed by the whole appearance of the office . I don't think they ever put a lot of effort into assuring that the waiting patients were comfortable or that the waiting area was ascetically pleasing . They haven't changed anything since they initially moved in . I was also concerned that several of the receptionists were coughing . Their reception staff is less than mediocre. Over all these years, all that we have dealt with seem as though they despise their job. They're not friendly, nor very helpful and at times, a few have been downright rude. We've learned the ropes and what to expect, which is unfortunately a 3 hour appointment, however only about 30-45 minutes is actually being seen by the techs or doctor. I've learned to bring a book, knitting or of course have a fully charged phone or iPad with me. The Techs that perform the plethora of tests are all wonderful and after so many years, a few of them remember us. They do a quality job taking care of his precious eyes... eyes are indeed precious and we are there every six months. The waiting room is almost always jam packed, they have a coffee station that seems to have troubles every time we are there, which for some may be operator error and unfortunately, it's uncomfortably cold in there. The building is an old home that has become a commercial building and the insulation just isn't up to par for our climate. The waiting room is beautiful…read more The first time I went there, they ran us through like cattle, 10 at a time to be taken in the back and then out the door and then the next 10. it didn't feel very personal. They they not really interacted with me. They just said, open your eyes. Be still. I was informed by them five years ago they were the only ones in the state that does the surgery. So I had to do it with them. They charged me $1880 for their facility fee. On top of my copay. My insurance won't pay their facility fee. This fall I had secondary cataracts that had to be removed Again they told me the same thing and recharging me the same price I called around, talk to my insurance and found a minimum of 10 other doctors in this town that will do that surgery and charge my insurance without me having to pay a huge facility fee... I don't think it's fair, especially to the elderly who are living on Medicare. The people the front desk were very nice.

I had made an appointment right about the time the hunker…read moredown order was starting to lift, as I had been extending my one a day contacts well past the "one day" mark due to all the craziness going on. They were the only place that could get me in as soon as possible, and that was 3 weeks out. I was a new self pay patient since I have become a stay at home mom and no longer have insurance through my previous employer. I have had contacts/glasses since grade school and am very familiar with costs of contacts and office visits but even so I called around and asked about self pay costs and although this place quoted me the highest, they were the only ones that could get me in the "quickest." I thought there would be no way that my visit would be more than $300 just based off of my prior experiences at other eye care facilities. Boy was I wrong. The cost of the visit, although it was very thorough, was $450! Outrageous. This did not include anything other than the exam itself. I had to pay an additional $100 to fill my contact prescription and I thought I would check out some lenses as I'm due for a new pair of glasses they quoted me $450! I'll stick to getting my exam at another facility next time as I learned my lesson the hard way. If you have insurance, great! If you don't, you might want to take your business elsewhere because the average price at most offices for an exam is $250. Lesson learned.
