I shop here somewhat regularly only because the location is relatively convenient for me. Also they carry several brands of higher quality cat food and litter. My cat has gotten super picky about what he wants to eat, so I have to allow his highness to sample alllll the foods. (^-^)There are also many toys here for both cats and dogs. I like that they carry good quality merchandise, but have found the customer service to be lacking recently. I went in to pick up some Origen and Stella & Chewy's for my boy, and couldn't find the cat Origen. I searched for a while and finally asked the person at the register. She looked around a bit but couldn't find it either, concluding that they were out of stock. I needed it right away so looked a little further and found it. When I told the employee, so that others wouldn't have to repeat my experience, she looked at me blankly, seemingly not interested. The overall vibe was that I was creating an inconvenience by requesting assistance. There was no warmth, no presence, no sense that I was particularly welcome in the store. I have met with this kind of attitude on several previous occasions while shopping at this store. I may continue to go here from time to time *only* because of the convenient (for me)location, but I hope to find a store with better customer service. Also, there's a sense that dogs might be the favored species here (they must pull in more profit), and the register is surrounded by body parts like pig ears and whatnot. read more

I recommend this store - it's a large shop with a wide selection of dry, wet, and frozen dog and cat food. They have a large selection of bones and treats, a dental section, calming treatments, catnip, harnesses, toys, etc. I don't know if they have bird supplies or other pet items - but I have seen rodent supplies. They also have a grooming room in the back that I've never used since my dog doesn't need grooming. The people running the shop are friendly and have been helpful in the past - I get the sense that the shop is family-owned and/or operated, which is nice. It has the feel of a shop that knows the community - your local store. There is a shop cat but it mostly keeps to itself. It's a reliable place to shop, and my first stop for any pet needs. I recommend signing up for their reward points. All of that said, I purchase frozen raw food there and occasionally get the sense that it has thawed a bit (e.g. pieces stuck together, off color). I've seen less of this issue recently - I think one of their freezers was broken and they eventually replaced it. For that reason, however, I recommend checking the bag carefully to make sure there are no pieces stuck together, no ice chunks, etc. My pets have been 100% fine eating the frozen food from this shop, just be careful NO MATTER WHERE you buy frozen food. This isn't a problem unique to NY Pets, and they clearly recognized and fixed the issue they were having. read more

It's a little unkempt but the service is friendly (though, we never really needed to inquire about products so I can say how knowledgeable). The organization of the place is pretty strange - you'll have to make a couple rounds if you're looking for dog treats, dry food and raw food. We're happy they see a NY based raw food provider and not just dry food or food with a lot of additives. Also there's a least one cat that lives there so watch out if you have a dog who loves to chase them :) read more

This pet store has so much potential but it still isn't there yet. They have a small selection of cat toys and the toys they do have has a cheap quality. The aesthetic is cuter than Petland, but Petland has a better selection, lower prices and more engaged staff. So I'd recommend Petland on Knickerbocker instead, if you're looking for a local pet store. NYC Pet Knickerbocker's staff has not been helpful any of the times I've called and/or visited. read more

As I walk in there were two woman chatting behind the register. I went straight there. As I got there, a gentleman approached to pay for something. So one woman stopped and helped him and the other was just standing there. The woman who helpedbthe man asked me what I needed. I asked if the other woman could help me since she was clearly busy helping a customer. The two women looked at each other and the lady got up to help me. She seemed kind of annoyed. I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted. They had it there. The reason this place is getting 3 stars is because it is way overpriced. What I was looking for costs between$15-$20 they were charging $31.99. I ended up buying something similar but way cheaper because that's ridiculous. read more

I come to NYC Pet on Knickerbocker a couple times a month. They are very nice and they carry the specific and somewhat hard to find kitten litter that my cat uses. They also have a good selection of cat food/treats to keep my babies happy! I've used the delivery service a couple times as well. I would definitely recommend! read more

A couple of days ago, I walked in to this store with my dog. The young male cashier did not even say hello and just looked at us without verbal acknowledgment. I intended to buy treats for my dog from this store but since there's no "customer service" I walked out after less than a minute. Thankfully, this is not the only pet store in town. If you want to have buying customers it really would help, to train the cashiers to "smile" and acknowledge customers to make them feel welcome. I'm not walking into this store again. read more

This place rules. Incredibly helpful staff. I hobbled in on crutches (broken foot) and the guy behind the counter notices every time and asks if id like his help carrying the 8-12 cans of cat food i buy. Yep! Today was my first time going to NYC Pet on knickerbocker and I cannot believe how much I enjoyed my time shopping there. The two young men working there were extremely helpful. They gave my dog more treats, love and attention than I have gotten at other pet stores. They helped me carry my items as well. The vibes and prices at the store were great! Pet store is great. The workers are super friendly & helpful. I only took off too stars because the groomer does not follow NYC grooming laws, never asked for my dogs vaccines didn't see her ask the other customers either. I wouldn't recommend the groomer to anyone unless they don't care about their dog being around unvaccinated dogs. read more

I went into this store to buy some dog food got it home found out the food was expired I went back and looked for another bag of dog food to my surprise all there dog food was expired ( dry food ) that's when I was told that I cant exchange or get credit even though the food was expired and should of never been sold to me I tried to get a manager or supervisor and was told that they don't know who I should talk too I see some reviews that this is a great store I don't agree yeah its a new store clean but the people working there don't know what they are selling I rather go to PetCo then this store ever again Bushwickbark is just down a few blocks and they know what they are selling you if you don't like the big chains read more
