It's still part of the JW Lees pub chain mind you, selling their beers (so don't be expecting anything too exciting flowing from the taps), but they've done away with the company logos on the exterior and really put lots of thought into how to target their revised customer base - diners with a slightly more modern appetite. The dining spaces are smartly designed and depending on your party's size, you could reserve a semi-private area for your meal. We sat in the conservatory restaurant area which overlooks the beer garden and Bridgewater Canal; it's a light and airy part of the building, even in winter. Their food menu is seasonal, so we got to see what they were offering for winter. We were all sold on the Sunday roasts though, which were good quality and reasonably priced at £10.50. Feeling the need to treat ourselves to dessert, we ordered sticky toffee puddings (gorgeous) and a cheeseboard. The service was a well-oiled machine; the team worked seamlessly and were very welcoming. It's promising that there's now another local eatery that you could take your whole family to and they'd be well catered for.

Hotels you have to book separate rooms and there aren't many places of that size on Air BnB. Stayed here with a group of friends on a Saturday night in Manchester, in a 6-bed family apartment- costs £350 which works out at roughly £58 per person. There's a £100 security deposit which you get back at the end. It was absolutely massive: huge living and dining area, fully equipped kitchen, two huge bedrooms and two separate bathrooms. Everything with modern furnishings, and the building has plenty of character with exposed brick and concrete pillars. Location is super convenient for a night out-right round the corner from Piccadilly station with plenty of shops close by if you want to do grocery shopping. The apartment came with a free carton of milk- would be nice to have some oil for cooking as a bit annoying having to buy that stuff if you're only there the one night. Check-in and check-out were pretty quick. A few people on hen and stag dos in the lobby. Saw a girl vomiting on herself in the reception area which wasn't very nice, but her friends and staff were doing their best to clean her up and sort it out. There's a bar area downstairs where people were watching the football-I believe there's a gym too but I didn't have the chance to check it out. The apartment was big enough to hold waaaay more than 6 people. However, if you're thinking of trying to make it cheaper by splitting the cost between more people, this isn't that easy. They take down the names of all the people staying in the apartment, and when you come back in at 3am after a night on the tiles, they will do a head count and take your names. All in all a great place for large groups needing somewhere comfy and convenient to stay in town. Recommend.

There are two entrances, one directly on the street and one at the side. Our event was in the room directly as you go in the side entrance. It was a great sized room and from memory I think she said it can hold 100 people for a dinner. We had a tour of the apartments and it's a really great building with trees inside. A really good space. The apartments themselves are really spacious and would be ideal for a weekend away. I doubt I'll ever stay since I'm down the road but would recommend to others. The food was served Buffett style and was really good - an Xmas dinner and dessert. The turkey was as nice as Turkey is (I'm not a massive turkey fan but I do eat it at this time of year) and the trimmings were really great , especially the parsnips and stuffing. Dessert was mince pies and chocolate cake, both were delicious. I'd never thought of eating here before but I will definitely be back as if the food is that nice for a mass event then it must be great when going for a meal. Oh also nearly forgot to say. They also do weddings in case anyone is looking for a venue.

On site they have their own car park which has room for over fifty cars and is huge! With decking at the back, this whole place is excellently finished. What is even better is that they have a large function room available for whatever celebration you want with its own bar and open area outside. It truly is lovely. The events space we were going to was in a separate building to the huge brick warehouse that dominates this part of town - I couldn't believe it when I was told it had been converted into a hotel, given how tiny the windows were - it resembles a Victorian prison in some ways. Anyway, the venue had security on the doors checking bags etc. which is fairly standard given the number of people who had bought tickets. Inside, we were straight into the huge bar area, with the boxing ring and rows of seating in another massive adjoining space. This also had a mezzanine level so spectators could get a slightly better view. Predictably, the prices for drinks were erring on the ridiculous side - £4.50 for a 330ml can of Heineken, £4 for Foster's (I'd forgotten how truly grim and tasteless the latter was) and bottles of 'wine' for £18. I'd suggest that you either rely on drinks at home or in the nearby The Bishop Blaize pub to save a few quid. Great atmosphere for the boxing, a bit in-between Metrolink stops for public transport so there's a bit of a walk, but otherwise a pretty good venue for events.

For the Whisky Sessions there were some good food stalls out in the courtyard and three main stage areas, one of which was massive and all of which are elevated. The lighting design was outstanding, even better than Albert Hall. There was also loads of bar space selling a wide range of cocktails as well as beer and wine and, as it was the Whisky Sessions, a fair few wee drams. Excellent set up and would definitely come back next year.

Standing in the middle of a residential area,where you would never expect it is Ordshall Hall,a…read moreperiod house and museum.Dating back over 820 years the hall has been used for many things.It's main use was home of the Radcliffe family for over 300 years.In 1959 it was bought by Salford Corporation and has been used as a working mens club and even a church hall.In 1972 it was opened as a museum.It is a fine example of an Elizabethan manor house and the outside alone is worth a look.Inside there is a Victorian farmhouse kitchen and a magnificent Great Hall and Star Chamber.There's an exhibition gallery upstairs and the numerous finds are shown here,including a little childs shoe that was found under the floorboards of the house. Ordshall Hall is supposed to be very haunted although we did'nt see any ghosts or ghouls but they often have ghost hunts there often for charity and there are other events. It's open from Monday to Friday 10-4 pm,closed Saturday and open Sunday 1-4pm.It can be found on Ordshall Lane,Salford,Manchester,M5 3AN.

Many events are held here from weddings, concerts, special events, holiday markets, and more. It's easy to see why. It makes for a beautiful backdrop for any occasion. I do like stopping by when I'm in Man to take in anything that may have changed and its infinite gothic presence.

Manchester Town Hall is located in Albert Square in the city centre - it is home to the main area…read moreof the city's famous yearly Christmas Markets. It is one of the nicer, older buildings in the city being built in the mid-1800s and in many ways is your typical victorian building. It has been refurbished of late and the town hall now has a small Post Office in the annexe - it is also well located being right next to Manchester Central Library and part of it is also in St Peter's Square, which is one of the main stops on the city's light railway transport, Metrolink. It is still used today for various reasons other than the Post Office, it also is a small base for the police and it can sometimes be used for voting counting in elections, more notably the 2016 EU referendum where the United Kingdom voted by majority to leave the European Union. The guide of finding key areas of the town hall could perhaps be displayed better, especially when approaching it from Albert Square and St Peter's Square, being quite large it does stretch across both. A really nice old building in the city with some use today - as far as town halls go this is pretty cool. 4*

So last Saturday I sidled in here, sheltering from the Mancunian drizzle, to get me some lunchtime eats. I was greeted by a very pleasant man who seemed to be running the show by himself, and there were countless comfy sofas and chairs and vertigo-inducingly high tables and stools dotted around. It was quiet, and that's the way I like it. The Left Bank café's incredibly sleek, as one would expect from a Couture Café enterprise (my, all Manc's museum eateries seem to be in bed with one another!). I clocked the chalkboards behind the dude in charge and saw 'vegetarian hot sandwich'. SOLD! Only then I was crushed, because as soon as I started saying it the gent told me the chef doesn't work on weekends so the options were pre-made sandwiches and soup. But this is where the place started to shine. When I heard tomato I winced, thinking, 'If this is cream of tomato, I'm outie.' Nope! Inspection of the self-service vat revealed a vegetably proper Italian soup, and since it was self-service, I totally abused my bowl. The bread was also help yourself, in a cute little box behind the soup, with options of white and granary. Very nice it was too. Combined with a very good strong coffee my lunch only cost me a little over a fiver, and I was full to the brim. I made a mental note to go back on a weekday and try more of their options. Oh, and I might have to check out the museum too. PHM, thankies for providing me with a most pleasant weekend afternoon!
