I have to admit that I did not experience any of the shortcomings that some of the other reviewers…read moreexperienced. Instead, I experienced a very friendly staff in nice eclectic hotel setting. I believe the hotel is located in a retrofitted old building that was turned into a hotel. Why? Well I was on the 6th floor and as soon as I entered my room I had to climb a metal spiral staircase that went into my room? How did I get my heavy suitcase up that winding staircase? Very slowly!?! But, hey, I understand in Europe they are not as quick as we are to demolish beautiful old buildings. Which I believe is great because at the same time you are helping to preserve a piece of history. The staff was very hospitable and informative. I took the staff up on some of their restaurant recommendations and I was just blown away at how great of a food location that Coruna is. Most notably, steak from the blonde Gallego bulls which is even better than wagu beef from Japan. Yes, its true, better than wagu beef! Moreover, the seafood here is simply outstanding and better yet the prices were on the cheap side for what I received!! Fantastic eating out value! Room service was excellent. The food delivered to my room was actually very good. Also, my booking included free breakfast which I also loved. Moreover, Coruna served as a jump off point to visit Santiago De Compostela which was only a 40 minute train ride away. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to walk like all of the other thousands of pilgrims visiting. Back to my hotel stay, I highly recommend this place if you find yourself on your way this corner of Espana.

This Melia falls well below its own aspirations. They explained that they turn off the hotel's AC…read morechiller at 1am and the room gets fairly muggy. The WiFi and hot water are chronically unreliable. The walls are thin and heavy wood doors plus faux wood floors means that any loud footstep will wake you up. We eventually resorted to earplugs although I am a very sound sleeper generally. The Laundry and Parking are pricey and they are not helpful in finding you any alternatives to their prices. Luckily I found a nearby dry cleaners that saved me about $60 USD over the hotel. Lastly, the bathroom had very shoddy work, broken tiles, and a broken shower head meant to adjust, but it kept sliding down. There are better alternatives for the money.

There are a handful of eateries in town, but depending on the day you visit not all are open. The day we were in town, the restaurant Vista Al Vallee inside Casa Petronila had the best looking menu. So we decided to dive in. Once inside the dining room, we learned that many others had made the same decision. The spacious dining room was about half full. Wait staff was busy delivering drinks and food. We were seated quickly and offered menus. The menu of the day is always a good value, but can be a big lunch if you're not used to it. For the first course, we both had the fabada Asturiana. It was one of a few times we had fabada and it was great. The broth had deep rich flavor, the beans were tender and melting, and the sausages were savory accents. For the second course, I had the chicken cooked in cider. Chicken pieces were fried and then cooked in a cider sauce. The chicken as a touch dry, but had good cider flavor. My husband had the scalloped goat. A scallopini sauce covered a fried goat steak. It is good and not noticeably goaty. Both dishes came with a side of fries, a common side dish. For dessert, we opted for ice cream, but there were other choices that I cannot recall. Along with the food, the daily menu comes with a drink (water or wine/beer) and bread. Service was friendly and very efficient. The beautiful view of a green hillside from the window was lovely. And the food was good!
