Although I had shared both a long-form and short form version of my current resume in addition to my LinkedIn profile, it was clear that my resume writer had not reviewed anything at all before our conversation. While she was very personable, she struggled to understand basic technical terms and concepts and could not offer any appreciable advice on what she expected to improve, but I decided to try and trust the process. About 15 days after paying for services, I received my first draft which was simply a typographical reformat of my existing resume riddled with broken English, misspelled words, and poor grammar. The writer had simply cut and pasted the bullets I'd written together, while attempting to cut out random words to make sentences shorter. The resulting product was nonsensical, shoddy, and embarrassing in every sense of the word. I took a few days to reflect on the best path forward, then contacted the company to explain that it was clear they were not headed in the right direction. I explained that I thought it would be fair to offer partial payment for time already expended, but did not wish to continue with my writer.
