It would not be my first choice of church if I were choosing only for myself. However, as the mother of a teenage daughter who has had some struggles and is interested in a lively, vibrant youth community? I couldn't ask for more. There is a huge youth community in this church, and there are young leaders who make them all feel welcome and as if they are a part of something powerful-- which the faithful would agree they are. Youth get opportunities to eat dinners together at youth group every Wednesday night, participate in services that are quite lively and interactive on Sunday mornings, and take part in many different community events that exist to improve the church itself or the community surrounding it. It took very little time for my daughter to feel at home here, which made it an "easy sell" for me. As a community member and educator, I see the difference attending Life Church has made in the lives of other local teens and, again, I couldn't have more positive things to say: there are young people who have totally turned things around for themselves-- but, even more importantly, there are teens who have had challenges figuring out where they "fit" who now have a place where they feel welcome and confident to be themselves. Of course, the adults are also caring and active members of the community. However, my greatest kudos to Life Church is for the difference they're making in the lives of children, youth, teens, and young adults in this little town.

Well, it had to happen…read more.. We've been in or about PT for three years. All the while, St.Paul's has been sending out various messages to come visit her. She's a beautiful old white board church (built by shipbuilders, I'm told) which is located next to the belltower at the top of a cliff overlooking "Downtown" and the Port Townsend marina. So...when an advert appeared in the Port Townsend Leader saying "Come to Our Launching: All welcome, free barbeque", well...the lure to explore this fine piece of architecture was just too strong. Never having been inside an Episcopalian church in my lifetime, I went. And thoroughly enjoyed myself. In the first place, it wasn't inside. It was outside on the terrace. In the second place, its Robin Williams favorite church (check the website for this jokes if you don't believe me...) And its friendly to a fault. Did I mention that I ran into a friend of a friend from San Francisco? (My friend is his teddybear maker..go figure.) Or that the material clearly states "All welcome." (And by *all* you know that saints, sinners, straights, gays, rich, poor *and* little nebbishes such as myself were intended to be included in that all-embracing "All.") So I had a grand time, got to tell a few of my favorite stories to a new (and apparently appreciative) audience. Got to participate in a fine, uplifting and somewhat unconventional church service. In blue jeans. And got to meet a bunch of people that I would have been unlikely to have met elsewhere. And I must say, the BBQ was mighty fine, too. "Welcome home" said the Rev. Elizabeth Bloch. And danged if I didn't believe her. Give the place a go when you are in town.

"Candlelight Concert Tonight" 7:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church 609 Taylor Street. Said I to myself...I've seen all the movies at the Rose and the Rosebud. Watched all the plays that I care to. Maybe I'll go to the concert. It'll give me a chance to see the inside of this little church without being too obvious. Showed up at the appointed hour. Paid a small donation at the door. (Used for funding various charities about town and for the upkeep of the building.) Listened to two really fine groups. The first, a baroque recorder ensemble. The second, singers of a baroque chorale in their first public performance. (This latter group was formed when friends met at a local farm.) Good music, fine little wooden church, the oldest in Port Townsend. Uptown...with a view of Puget Sound. Beautiful organ (not used in this particular performance.) Friendly, fine, inclusive congregation and minister...Rev. Ankeny, who, if I remember correctly is also an actor. T'was a very nice evening and well worth the paltry donation.. worth a repeat visit for visitors and residents alike. My mother would have be sooooooo proud of me! (Her first word was "Beethoven.") Surprises are around every corner in Dream City, and this little church was certainly one of them. There's a concert every month, and many musical events happening weekly. My husband…read moreand I moved up here because of the military, and while we were excited for the change, we were devastated to leave our church in Southern California. We tried many churches in the area and none seemed engaging or entirely truthful in its teachings. When we came to The Bridge for the first time, it was a breath of fresh air. Rick and the other Shepards teach solely from the Bible. Word-for-word readings with minimal personal interpretations. They purposefully and whole heartedly give us the truth based off of the word and the word only. Also, the fact that we take communion every gathering (Sundays and Wednesday nights) is amazing! Something I didn't even get to experience at my last church, and something that you soon realize is a blessing to be able to take the elements and receive the word each-and-every-time. Like others have mentioned, this church does not beat around the bush. They do not accept sin of any kind, as all churches should be. Some may find that unwelcoming, but my husband and I found it grounding. The way this world is transforming, holding onto and being held accountable for what is right and wrong with the world is crucial and this place keeps us in check. The staff is beyond friendly. I am heart broken that some have not challenged themselves to speak with any staff member before writing this place off. It is not a huge church, but it's also come a long way from being a small group of people in a barn years ago. That being said, if you want a close and personal relationship with Christ and the church staff, pastors included, then speak to them! My first encounter with Rick (the head teaching pastor) was phenomenal and has opened the floodgates to building multiple relationships at this church. Everyone knows everyone, even if you haven't met them yet. And that's because they're all so welcoming and eager to welcome you to the Lord.
