This used to be the best veterinarian on the southside and I loved Dr. Ben Welbourne. The last time I went, my cat had a physical (not from Dr.Ben)and I was told the cat was physically But that I could do precautionary blood work if I still wished. I was not told that the precautionary blood work would end up being $500. My cats blood was drawn, and I had a surprise Bill of $500 that I refused to pay due to not being told the upfront cost. I was also told that my cat needed a tooth removed that I wanted to schedule and do his bloodwork prior to that date. I was told that my cat needed blood work because he had kidney disease even though I said that he did not and I was just wondering if he did.because he lost .5 of a pound. I sent two emails trying to contact my regular Vet Dr. Ben to discuss this and schedule a date for his tests and tooth extraction. I called and was never allowed to speak to him per Sharon at the front desk. I sent two emails to Sharon that we never responded to by Dr. Ben. I was then sent all my medical records and told to go to another vet by Sharon the office manager because I didn't agree with how I was treated and obviously was not allowed to speak to my Vet of 15 years Dr. Ben. After multiple attempts to try reach Dr. Ben I was forced to go to another vet for the safety of my cat, being that they told me he had kidney disease. I ended up going to Midwest Animal Hospital which proved to be absolutely amazing. My cat had a blood work in urine panel turned out to be completely perfect just as I thought he would be And I was told that his levels are incredible for a cat his age . They were transparent with their pricing, and they were kind and considerate, and honestly exactly how Oak Forest animal Hospital used to be. I strongly recommend reconsidering Oak Forest Animal Hospital under this current front desk Management. They were great for a long time, but after the gatekeeping that occurs on the inability to contact your vet, if needed, the lack of resources and lack of transparency In billing, I strongly recommend Midwest animal hospital in Orland Park instead. Midwest animal Hospital also came out $100 less than they did on their pricing and told me that a tooth extraction was not necessary read more

Excellent veterinary clinic, advice, knowledge, and care. If you care about your furry family members, this is the place to take them. Just had my two new dogs spayed and neutered, both are healing nicely and the process went without a hitch. Only issue was that my boy wasn't a fan of finding out before the scheduled appointment that he only had 48 hours left to check his nuts. I told him, "hey buddy, you have 48 hours left." He kept the same expression for almost 5 minutes. 99% sure he completely understood me and was trying to process it. Thankfully both are healing up and healthy. read more

Very easy to schedule an appointment for our cat, who needed an ultrasound to identify the source of a problem. Dr. Ben was recommended by our regular vet. His manner with both people and animals is friendly and calm. The ultrasound exam was extremely thorough. Mocha Coconut was visiting IL for the first time from FL. Unfortunately, he had probably not been use to the weather change and the different environment that one of his eyes started to become infected, super watery, and difficult to open! After watching his eyes, I decided it be best he get some medicine. Shihtzu eyes are susceptible to eye conditions especially with their shape. We called the office and they were very nice and provided us with a convenient appointment. We were able to show them a few of his records since we brought it just in case. They also called his vet in Tampa to make sure his records reflected his immunization we had for him. The vet was very nice and you can tell she loved animals. Mocha Coconut felt comfortable with her. She gave him medicine and we were all set. His eye infection got better! read more

I can't say enough I about this hospital. The staff is fantastic! Very sweet girls and always patient. Plus there phone etiquette is in poBut Dr. Megan is by far the best vet I have ever dealt with. I've worked in the hospitals and have not seen such bed side manor like hers. She takes time not only explaining your pets health but actually talking to you. Horrible bedside manner charge me for everything they possibly could. They gave my dog medicine after a procedure and he was throwing up because of it . When I brought him in to get the staples removed, I let them know he was throwing up. They charge me an office visit and $150 + for medicine he did not need and $100 for an exam !! Place has really gone downhill ever since the older doctor left the practice never again read more

I have been trying for years to get my pit to the vet. He is a great dog but has horrible anxiety when it comes to the vet and gets very aggressive. I have tried numerous vet offices with no luck. Oak Forest Animal Clinic came highly recommended for dogs with aggressive behavior at the vet. We brought our pup yesterday and while it was still a challenge, they were able to successfully give him all of his vaccinations and blood work. They were calm and handled it like true professionals. Due to COVID, we were not able to go into the exam room but they recommended that we walked him to the door with them and waited in the car. When the exam was over, they brought him back to our car so that he wasn't sitting in the room stressed while they called us to walk through the exam. They've definitely gained a new puppy patient. June was her name repeat and repeat that they were on their third tile seeing her. I have annother puppy and the vet I see now told me she was not supposed to take oral flea meds under six months d my dogs are rid of fleas. The only examtney havd June was picking and searching for flea larvae. The month she took that edible flea stuff she took she developed a cough she would not eat. And they were hiding things from us and dodging your whole family calls they said rhwy would do blood work. I've been taking my pets there since 1979. Unfortunately I'm on disability and although I paid $250 May of 2017 for my 15 + year old Ozzie who is on his last legs close to death O.F. Animal Hospital won't refill an antibiotic for his recurring skin infection! They want me to carry my 50lb dog in and pay $50 for an exam before letting me have one more refill that would make him more comfortable in his final days! I am taking them off my Facebook and when he does pass I'll have him cremated at a different facility! I'm Very Disappointed with this Animal Hospital and do Not Recommend!!! read more

Summit recently saw Dr. Ben and he is great also! Unfortunately for him, he's a good barometer for the allergy season and his signs and symptoms are reflective of Summit's flare ups as well. :( I'm still very happy with their care for both of my dogs. Gia had her teeth cleaned and came out with pearly whites and no extractions yet. Phew! More of a focus on holistic alternative medicine would be helpful, but this is quite the specialty so I wouldn't expect them to be on board or knowledgeable about all of the options out there. I'm happy that they were not completely turned off by me transitioning my dogs to raw. They cautioned salmonella cases they have seen, but when I explained to Dr. Ben the processing for Stella & Chewy's he instantly did research online and agreed that would be a good brand to start them on. read more

This is a very difficult review for me to write, but I feel it's something I have to do at this time. Tonight, after a serious illness, we said goodbye to our cat, Fourth Meal. (We fed her as a stray for almost a year before trapping and vetting her shortly before Thanksgiving; she's been in the house ever since.) Anyway, I won't detail all of her ailments but she was seriously ill and neurologically impaired with very, very, very slim-to-none recovery odds. She received all of her veterinary care from Oak Forest Animal Clinic--from November through today--and we always felt very confident in the level of care she received. We brought her in for the last time on Friday and it was apparent to Dr. Welbourne and all the staff that her condition was very, very grave (it all transpired rapidly--overnight, actually--she was perfectly fine on Thursday evening). Since Friday, we've received daily updates (sometimes more than daily as we've called multiple times in a given day) and I feel her care was very proactive; Dr. Welbourne was quick to suggest other medications to try when it was apparent the current meds produced no results. I never felt like he just "gave up" on her; he tried to treat her to the best of his ability to the very end. Today, I spoke with Dr. Welbourne on the phone for a good fifteen minutes and he leveled with me about her condition and the almost impossible odds of recovery. She was still crying in pain today (keep in mind she entered her hospitalization stay on Friday), so we knew what needed to be done. Dr. Welbourne was very careful not to push me in either direction (which I greatly appreciated), and my husband went to say goodbye to our beloved Fourth Meal this evening (I couldn't bring myself to go--too emotional). When he arrived at the office, he was shown into a room right away; the staff made it clear on the phone today that all we had to do was name the time and there would be no wait. And there was no wait. He was able to say goodbye to Fourthie (she didn't even recognize him), and the staff was very caring and considerate of his highly emotional state. While we are positively heartbroken over our loss, we feel the overall care she received was top notch. Terri, the office manager, is a true angel among angels; we felt very comfortable knowing that she was watching over our kitty and caring for her with the greatest level of compassion. Dr. Welbourne was fantastic as well, and overall...we feel she received great care up to and including the very end. read more

A misdiagnosis by this team of vets caused my beloved dog Annie to suffer and pass from a rib wall cancer. We brought her in a couple of times, and were assured the growth was a fatty tumor. The son (vet) even spoke of how he spent time in clinicals at a cancer hospital. Well, we were not satisfied with their diagnosis and brought Annie way out to Aurora to VCA where a wonderful vet by the name of Dr. Looper gave us the devistating news, and could NOT believe the Oak Forest vets had not caught this sooner. We spent over $3,500 in radiation treatment to give Annie a confortable 3 months before she crossed into the rainbow bridge. BEWARE!!!!! They seem like really nice vets BUT by misdiagnosing our beloved Annie, she suffered terribly and was taken from us all to soon. read more

I had a very positive experience with the Oak Forest Animal Clinic. I adopted a Pekingnese just a couple months ago. He had already been vaccinated/neutered, etc. when I got him so I originially went into Oak Forest Animal Clinic to get his year's supply of heartworm meds. During that initial meeting I thought the staff was very friendly, helpful and warm. Well, I ended up making a trip back sooner than I had anticipated. My little friend started itching constantly and while I knew he was flea free, it had to be something else troubling him. It turned out to be seasonal allergies. Dr. Wellbourne was very knowledgeable and informed me of all the options to help control his allergies. He gave me alternatives to help control them so I won't have to medicate him constantly to the highest level. I felt as though he really weighed all the options and took his time in making a decision on how to treat him. The doctor and staff treated Harley with the utmost care and I felt respected and welcomed. My experience with this clinic was the best experience I have ever had with a small animal practice. My dog Chopper had torn his rear hind leg ACL.. When I called to make an appointment and asked about pricing the woman who answered was very nice and answered all my questions. I took Chopper in for his appt. and everyone was pleasant. Surgery was scheduled..I was nervous dropping him off, and asked a lot of questions which could be annoying, but no one made me feel my worries were not important. Dr Ben called me later that day going over the post surgery details, which lightened my worries. Pick up day the staff told me Chopper was a sweet dog, and they gave him lots of love. Dr. Ben was the most kind, straightforward, honest, and intelligent Vet we could have hoped for. We brought two girls, 13 & 9 in with a pet hamster who was bleeding profusely.... down below. He educated them on what may have happened, was kind and gentle in talking to them, but was honest about the hamster probably not going to make it. He realized that this was their pet, their responsibility, and that they were crushed. His office called twice the next day to check on "Hammy" and said if she was still with us Friday come back. Minor miracle, but "Hammy" appears to have overcome the 2% chance of living....Dr. Ben then talked with the 13 year old about animals he has treated, Veterinary Colleges, and educated her on different hamster breeds. She loves animals, and he answered all her questions. He has a calming, sincere demeanor, and I would never consider going anywhere else. Pricing was also very reasonable. Maybe I am the dumb one. However this place has charged me for services for 9 years and never done the stool test. Tops is... Last week our dog had an allergic reaction to something after our move and the treatment was very mild for the condition (considering he is scratching off his skin). After my daschund had blown a disc in his neck and was unable to move, I was told by my vet that surgery was finally the only answer. Since I could not afford a surgery, and after unsuccessful attempts at a chiropractor, my chiropractor referred me to Dr. Ben. Well, he was the answer to my prayers! Dr. Ben suggested that my dog have a series of K-Laser treatments along with other suggestions to get him back on his feet. Well, my dog is now able to walk again and has only improved day after day. Dr. Ben also suggested that although it was not critical to try acupuncture treatments and gave me a doctor who would do this at affordable treatments. I decided to go with his suggestion and between Dr. Ben's laser treatments and the acupuncture treatments, my dog is almost 100% back to normal!!! read more
