Prairie State Veterinary Clinic is truly a wonderful clinic to take your animal (healthy or ill)! Everyone truly cares about your pet! We used to go to a very large vet practice and we prefer our pets to be familiar with their doctors (and the techs), rather than seeing a different vet each time you go in (unless you ask for a specific vet). As our pup, Ruby Bertha Marie, has gotten older, she is sadly having more health issues. Ruby has a history of mast cell tumors, so she has had MANY growths removed due to this history. Dr. Lauren Tassone is an excellent surgeon, and has always been willing to remove a small lump we find on Ruby (even when Ruby is in for her dental cleaning), to make sure Ruby does not receive many more surgeries than necessary. Our family is EXTREMELY PLEASED with the OUTSTANDING CARE and LOVE that Ruby is always shown! Taking Ruby to the vet is like seeing beloved family members. Everyone makes you feel welcome and that you are truly cared about! We are very THANKFUL to EVERYONE at Prairie State Vet for their help, guidance and moral support! Ruby is also enrolled in the THRIVE program and we have saved some money on her bills. We feel it it worth it to join. Dog needed a refill of antibiotics for a prior injury and 4 hours later I was still waiting on the staff to bring the chart to the vet for an answer. Apparently the vet was so swamped she couldn't take a minute between appointments to yeah or nay the request. I'm a patient man but it only goes so far. Going through loops for an antibiotic for a dog that was already seen is outrageous! This place cares more about the dollar than the dog unfortunately. Do yourself a favor and find another clinic this one is too busy for your dog. read more

The team at Prairie State vet is great...very accommodating whenever I call for an appt. They remember my dog Moose and the staff is prepared to review past history and really listen to current issue. Moose had a rash for over 2 that never completely went away until we met Dr Treat. If I could give no stars I would. My husband took my cat here for an illness check up. Paid $114 to be told she had a cold, and nothing was given to her. Within the next two days her breathing got so bad my mother was ready to take her to the er (luckily she responded well to a breathing treatment, that we have at the house). Took her to a different clinic, where she was diagnosed with a sinus infection and was given an antibiotic. Luckily she is now improving. I do not recommend going here, it would be a waste of time and money. read more

Everyone here is really nice and welcoming with one exception: Dr. Norton. He's arrogant, dismissive, and talks endlessly about non-relevant stories from his past. If you stay away from him, it's a good practice, albeit much more expensive than the long-time previous owner. But my guess is it's on par with what other vets charge--$700 and change for two dogs' yearly exams + Lepto & Lyme vaccinations (my dogs are on the three year rabies shots, which weren't due). read more

Ruby our Boston Terrier needed to come here because of her psychotic running and jumping from extremely high places... also a floating patella. They were able to offer her six sessions of light therapy for her knee. The moment that they started to do the light therapy, she was instantly calm her. And she was also ready to leap around the room as soon as we were ready to leave. They offered adorable dog goggles, as well as options for using care credit if we decided to go for more therapy sessions in the future. But she didn't need them. after her first session, she was already seemingly better. After her fourth session, she was totally normal again. But since we did already pre-paid for six, and the doctor had suggested that she at least get six, we continued with it and today she is doing spectacular! We definitely highly recommend this veterinary clinic and hospital. read more

Brought my cat in for a check up and updated vaccines and cleaned her ears. Which they did, did not care for Dr. Norton and it cost $217. I understand the cost of things have gone but I thought this was very high. I had two previous dogs who were 10 and 15 and Prairie State was the only place I had brought them and they both passed in 2021. I was trying to adopt a dog through a rescue and when they called to verify they were told they had no record of the dogs ever being there. So needless to say I was denied. When Dr. Fleming owned the place there seemed like there a more sense of care and now it just feels like a business. read more

Tech's failure to give a message to Dr. Tassone contributed to my pet's death. My family and I had been going to see Dr. Fleming for 20+ years. When he was at the practice he went above and beyond for your pet. Sadly, since he is no longer there an unfortunate incident happened. I was instructed by Dr. Tassone to call her if my pet's sudden illness worsened. When I stopped by the office to pick up pain medicine I asked the tech to have the doctor call me. She literally rolled her eyes at me and said they were busy. I told her Dr. Tassone had asked me to update her on my dog's condition. As a result of this woman's negligence my pet died overnight and I was told she never gave Dr. Tassone my message. After she learned my dog had died she had the nerve to contact me to tell me that she thought my dog's condition didn't warrant the doctor to call me and that she thought I was a routine med pickup. Absolutey unacceptable and unforgiveable. To this day I still have no idea what my dog died from because she was never seen by Dr. Tassone to examine her. This would have never happened under Dr. Fleming's watch. I will never step foot in there again. read more

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED: Three visits in 3-days, because my beloved Bridget, a rescue Welsh Corgi, began vomiting, and over these 3-days rapidly declined. Note: A day previous to the first vet visit, Bridget was very active and energetic, swam in the pool, played with other dogs, ate, and slept well. Over the course of the 3-days, my wife and I had no idea how seriously ill Bridget had become--and if the Vets did know the seriousness and urgency, they did NOT make it clear--and I had asked many pointed questions trying to determine if her ailments were life-threatening. Day 1 (Dr. Fleming): A congenial, soft-spoken man seemed to care about Bridget's recovery--or so I thought. Note: When I arrived, Bridget was vomiting but she was still her rambunctious self, so Dr. Fleming ordered a muzzle. In walks an inconsiderate and mouthy Vet Tech. She was overly aggressive when putting on the muzzle and physically restraining a very frightened Bridget. Then when Bridget began choking and exhaling fluids through the small opening on the muzzle, I moved to remove the muzzle and she said, 'DO NOT TAKE THAT OFF." This Tech needs a different line of work. I am disgusted with myself for not telling her to back off and I should have removed the muzzle. He took an x-ray and it showed a small dark mass. He followed with a blood test, subcutaneous hydration, an anti-vomiting shot, and a prescription (which surprised me because she certainly couldn't swallow anything). Bridget was having difficulty breathing and coughing up a lot of phlegm, so when he suggested we take her home, monitor her, and return tomorrow I sensed Bridget was worse than he was letting on, so I asked him if she would be better off staying there. He suggested she return home. If I misunderstood him and Bridget was indeed on death's doorstep then I believe he should have clearly stated "Bridget needs INTENSIVE CARE NOW! Take her ... here." (Note: He did mention Premier in Crestwood, but I was unaware they were an IC unit, and I had been there before and found it unremarkable--so why would I go there?). Although, I still did not believe Bridget was in an irreversible condition. Ultimately, he said, "take her home, see how she does, and return tomorrow." Well, as it turned out, not a wise directive, as she declined considerably overnight. I showed up on their doorstep when they opened. Day 2 (Dr. Tassone): Bridget had declined immensely. The Dr. was compassionate, speaking in a solemn tone as if Bridget's condition was critical. I did not understand this and sought clarity. She never once said, "Bridget is deathly ill and needs IC, NOW!" Why did she not say this??? She spoke of three possible conditions: Pancreatitis, a fungal condition, and/or pneumonia. But tests were unclear and she did not pinpoint any ailment(s). Day 3 (Frank Norton): Note: EARLY A.M. tried to get into two other vets because Bridget had taken a turn for the worse and now was experiencing severe breathing difficulty but to no avail. And now...Frank Norton--I will not refer to this man as a doctor: This man disgusts me. Notably, on day two Bridget further declined and we get a call from Prarie St asking to delay our appointment an hour because Norton, the ultrasound Dr.(?) will be delayed. I arrive at Premier early and the "esteemed" Frank Norton shows up an additional hour late and slowly shuffles around, passing our room several times without even identifying himself--all the while Bridget is laboring. The visit was for an Ultrasound and when he finally enters the room--without identifying himself--moodily complains his staff had not placed the ultrasound machine in the room (If you have issues with your employees, have enough professionalism to not voice them in the presence of the emotional client--me). I proceeded to ask him several questions and either he didn't answer at all, answered off-handedly, or at one point answered in an idiotic metaphor--and even screwed up the delivery of the inappropriate metaphor--and didn't even bother to correct himself to add clarity to his garbled message. I asked more direct questions and did not receive one direct answer. Amongst every doctor or Vet I had ever dealt with in my entire life, Norton had the absolute worst personality. With Vet professionals we seek--and rightly expect-- some empathy, caring, clarity, a professional demeanor, and TIMELINESS--NORTON!. So, Bridget seems to be losing her fight and Norton continues on with the ultrasound(?) but when he is set to shave the area near the pancreas he stops and says he cannot roll her over in her condition. WHAT? What difference would it have made as she was dying and to trim a little more hair would have taken 10-seconds. So the test as administered was TOTALLY unnecessary. All the while, in an adjacent room the Vet Techs are having a dandy time, laughing loudly. At this point, we did go to Premier and their vet expected an 80% chance of recovery??? I have let this go for a while now-no more. Our sweetheart and love has passed away due to this vet office. I wrote a letter - they never responded. I even sent a stamp in an envelope with a copy for Dr. Fleming (wonderful vet whose practice went to 0 starts when he left but I understand everyone has the right to retire-enjoy) but they never responded and doubtful they informed him of their negligence. In august 2020 they were called frantically by us many times to get our wheaten terrier in who was a 10 year patient as our other dog and my mother in laws dog so they have a long standing of knowing us - they said in two weeks they could get her in - would not answer any calls & ?s -very rushed and rude on phone-said go to emergency vet if you don't like waiting. I said I didn't honestly know what was wrong with her please get her in - then on the way to emergency vet she died -never sick in her life. When asking if someone there could just look at her and give me a cause of death - no call back - deceased dog in hot car in August - unacceptable as any pet owner just wants an answer as to why their dog died. There is obviously so much more and too much to type but 0 calls - no Dr. Tassone either who studied under Fleming - shame shame shame Be very weary of going here. We couldn't be happier with our new vet and I suspect had Dr. Fleming been here still this would NOT have happened - but they will claim short staffed due to Covid (any excuse). Lots of people looking for jobs so don't pull short staffed on me. Lot of bad reviews here but pay attention to the death of a fairly young dog you could have saved. read more

I had an appointment for my dog's yearly examination with Dr. Tassone on 7/13 at 11:00am. When I arrived, the clinic was in chaos due to the installation of a new computer system. I waited 50 minutes to be called and I was only called because I stopped a tech and asked when I would be seen. She then put us into an exam room and began the general questioning concerning my dog's health. The tech then left me in the room while she got the doctor. I waited another 5 minutes and then began seeking out the doctor. I found multiple people hovering over a computer in the next room. I stood in the doorway and was finally acknowledged by Dr. Tassone but instead of coming out of the room to begin examining my dog, she told me she would be with me in "a little while". I told her not to bother and walked out. WHY WOULD ANY BUSINESS BE TRAINING THEIR EMPLOYEES ON A NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM DURING A CLIENT'S SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT TIME? Close the clinic for a day but don't waste my time training you and staff during the time I have a scheduled appointment. We have been taking our dogs to Dr Fleming for many year, he has now retired and man do we miss him, I am not really sure why Dr Norton is a vet he doesn't even seem to me that he likes animals, told me he muzzled my dog who was a border collie um If she tried to bite you it's because u are a terrible person he is the absolute worst vet, my dog passed away way too short in her life, he just kept guessing and then called her a he I said her name is Lady then proceeded to tell me well I don't even know this dog soooo, very unprofessional and no bed side manner, I called the office Saturday for an emergency situation they said well we are closing so here's 2 places you can call and try my dog died on the way to ER vet in Orland Also I did like Dr Tassone but she never even called me after doing a blood test on my dog so ya thanks for nothing but charging me for tests and meds that didn't help or do anything and no one even called me Monday to follow up with me after me calling them and being hysterical on the phone....be careful driving ok thanks for nothing We sure do miss Dr Fleming, I will be bringing my other 2 dogs to another vet for sure they don't even get 1 star Zero stars read more

I've been taking my dogs to Dr. Fleming for almost 20 years. He is a compassionate, no-nonesense kind of guy who doesn't try to push expensive tests or procedures on you. He lets you know what's available, then lets you pick the best option for your pet AND your budget. He's got a great network of specialists that he refers to if necessary. I've used a couple of them and they are excellent as well. Dr. Tassone joined the practice a couple of years ago. After seeing Dr. Fleming for so long, I'll admit that I was hesitant to let the young, new doc have a go at my pup. Turns out, Dr. Tassone is awesome! She's gentle, patient, knowledgeable and really knows how to explain things and put your fears at ease. I have absolutely no problem taking my pup to her if Dr. Fleming isn't available. Everyone knows that the best docs are nothing without a great support staff. The ladies who work in this office are top-notch. There's always a pleasant voice on the phone when you call (thanks Paula, Katie & Kathy!), and the vet techs are intelligent, capable members of the care team (thanks Liz, Tracey & Dawn) who work WITH the docs and not just FOR them. The clinic is modern and spotless, and Dr. Fleming & Dr. Tassone work to bring high-quality veterinary care to all of their patients at a reasonable cost. Dr Norton Is by far the worst doctor or vet i have ever met in my life. My family has always been a supporter for Prairie state, ever since i was a child, but then this ignorant guy shows up and it seems like he doesn't even know what he's talking about! He also told my fathers dog (that had parvo) that he would die and there was nothing he could do for him. Then we brought him to a vet clinic literally around the corner and they saved his life! We called for an appointment Friday morning with their internist Dr . Norton. He has over the years been my go to person for 10 years whenever I need an explanation,a reassurance, or a diagnosis for my dogs . He is one of the smartest doctors I know . I would trust him with my care which mentally he has soothed my nerves many times lol. Once again he took me immediately , sat me down and just took the time to explain and answer any of my questions He is the best internist I know . I literally just got back with my Dino and I had to write this review. I can not express how great this place is. Dr. Norton is a newer doctor there and he did an ultrasound today for my baby and is not only is he incredibly knowledgeable but he also is very thorough. I feel confident in his analysis of my dog and feel very relieved with the results. Every time I go to this place, I feel welcomed and the love and compassion for your animal is like no other place I have ever taken my babies to. I also feel that they are the fairest price wise. Love, love, love Dr. Fleming. Great distaste for Dr. Norton. I brought Ruby in for a sore front paw, Dr. Norton asks about her back legs after I said it was the front left leg. After an exam Dr Norton suggests a tumor, heart infection, tumor, deterioration of the heart, and heart murmur, x-ray reveals nothing listens to the heart again, no heart murmur, no tumor, probably a sprain, rest and doggy aspirin. Ruby has been a patient from the time of adoption, she will not be seeing Dr. Norton again. Cindy the Tech however, was compassionate, helpful and professional she gets 5 stars. Do not take your pet here if you are looking for emergency service. I have taken 5 dogs here in the past with no issues and all the compassion our pets deserve. That was under the previous owner, John Flemming and his staff would never turn a pet away! The new ownership could care less! Being out of town my son came home to find my 11 year old lab vomiting blood. Mind you this dog has been to no other vet clinic but Prarie state. Apon bringing my lab to the clinic, he was refused service and told if that he would have to bring the dog back tomorrow! That is what you can expect from the new ownership, lesson learned find a new vet and do not come here for emergency service of any kind. I ve taken all my dogs to Prarie state for the last 25 years, not any more and I hope this review will make someone else think twice before taking there beloved animal there. BEWARE!!! They did a blood transfusion on our Boston Terrier Chloe and charged $436, and we then found out later that there's a blood club offered for $30 a year and covers one blood transfusion. They also agreed to low monthly payments of $25-50 a month, and then suddenly started bullying my wife and me to have it paid in full in one month! I called to talk to Paula and The owner Dr Fleming got on the call and started yelling and swearing at me saying: "PAY THE BILL TODAY OR NEVER COME BACK AND TELL YOUR PARENTS NOT TO COME BACK EITHER!!" Let me start off my saying that this Vet Clinic gets 1 star simply because the girls at the front desk were very nice. My boyfriend and I took our new puppy to his first check up last weekend. We saw Dr. Norton. This is my first puppy and I wasn't really sure what to expect. I put my puppy on the exam table and there was a sign that read to let them handle the dogs when they are being examined. I still stood by bc at the end of the day I don't want my puppy to get hurt. Dr Norton greeting came in and introduced himself. He didn't really acknowledge my puppy like I would think that most dog lovers do, but that's ok. I get it, he sees dogs all day. He started off by asking us what we were there for along with some other basic questions. He asked us what we were feeding him, we told him the brand name of the food and he responded in a very condescending manner "No, I asked you what are you giving him to eat. That is a brand!" Right away with that, he rubbed us the wrong way. He proceeded to examine our puppy. I took a step back from the exam table to give him his space. The Dr was growing a fit frustrated because my pup was moving around a lot. He would squirm when he was touching him. Nothing out of control (keep in mind my puppy is a tiny - toy poodle/maltese) The Dr says, "Ok, if you are not working with me, you leave me no other choice!" He placed his had around his neck and shoved his face down into the exam table and checked whatever he needed to check. My dog crying so hard and loud. It felt forever, but realistically speaking it was from 5-10 seconds. I was outraged. I didn't even know how to react. This being my first vet visit ever, I wondered if this is what I should expect every time? As soon as he released my puppy, I grabbed him, carried and consoled him. He was shaking and whimpering. Clearly he was traumatized by this so called Doctor. The Dr went on jabbering about nonsense. He had us in the exam room for another 20 min talking about what vaccines are recommended vs what is lawfully necessary. He was throwing names at us that I had never heard of. Speaking as if we were students of his or we were vets ourselves. Honestly, after the way he treated my dog and that condescending voice of his, I just wanted to go! I am not sure how he continues to work there and/or how this place is getting patients with this guy there. We agreed on what vaccines to get after what felt like taking a test. One of the girls came in to help him. When she walked in with the vaccine in hand, he gave her an attitude and said, "What are you doing? He's going to see the vaccines. I'm trying to get him to cooperate not scare him." I think he should have thought about that before he traumatized my dog. I'm not sure why he needed to speak like that to her or how a dog would know when it is his first visit. He is the doctor though! At the end of the visit, we paid our bill, asked for a copy of the records and left. We are NEVER returning there again! If you have a new puppy, I recommend that you take him elsewhere. There are so many other vets in the area. Please choose another one. This traumatic visit will definitely haunt myself and my puppy forever. read more

Review of Dr. Fleming's Prairie State Veterinary Clinic: COMPASSIONATE QUALITY medical care for our animals. We just had our first visit and we are completely blown away on all levels. We felt immediately comfortable in the office, the staff are helpful and friendly, and the appointment was quick but very thorough. Dr. Tassone is genuinely sweet, extremely helpful and reassuring (she gave us so much information on all of our cat's issues - color print outs), and they were able to get our cat in for a full dental the *very next day* at the lowest cost imaginable. As a gay couple with very liberal views, the only concern we initially had involved their website because of biblical/conservative references. I was concerned that we would feel ostracized or unwelcome. I am here to tell you that everyone was friendly, open, and welcoming - if there was any issue, we wouldn't have known it. Our cats are like are children and we are so thankful to have found a vet out here in the southwest burbs that will take the absolute best care of them from here on out. We live in Hickory Hills, about 15-20 minute drive away from this Orland Park location, and it's worth the short drive for sure. Anyone in this area should check out this clinic, 5 STARS!!!! read more

I can't say enough good things about this clinic. We first came here about 9 years ago for a surgery for our cat that prolonged his life by several years and received financial assistance from a fund set up for single parents that we heard from through our church. Without their help we wouldn't have been able to afford to help our cat. We brought our other very fat calico as well for the past five years and we're taken care of by Dr. Fleming and Dr. Tassone during various appointments. Both doctors were kind and so helpful and conscious of budgetary issues and other concerns we had with our pets. The front desk staff was always helpful and allowed us to borrow a carrier overnight to bring our cat in. We recently had to put our calico to sleep earlier this week and received a sympathy card in the mail from Dr. Tassone yesterday. We had this cat for 17 so saying goodbye was difficult and their thoughtfulness was much appreciated. I was looking for a new vet for my dog and went to Angies List and found go1od reviews for Doc Fleming. I can not be happier with not only Doctor Fleming but the other vets and all of the staff. I immediately felt comfortable went into the office. I was greeted warmly. The office is inviting and immaculate. My dog had a nasty lump which developed on is hind leg and a massive (2-3 pound) fatty tumor on her chest. The were very helpful, informed and kind. The surgery went extremely well with no problems afterwards when they removed both. The price for the surgery was very reasonable. I will be staying with Doc Fleming and his wonderful staff for a very long time. They are a great find! read more

Words cannot describe how much I love this vet clinic! The whole staff is extremely compassionate and genuinely care about your pet. Dr. Tassone is such a blessing. She has treated two of my three pets so far. The first one we brought to her was a stray newborn kitten we rescued with a severe eye infection. After treatment, he is now extremely healthy, active, and growing. My second pet we brought to her was my 10 1/2 year old chihuahua. She was very sick and Dr. Tassone did everything in her power to save her, but pancreatic cancer took over and we had to put her down. I could not have asked for a more peaceful end for my beloved dog. As hard as it was to say goodbye, the entire staff was so caring and put us completely at ease. They understand our love for our pets 100%. I will never take my fur babies anywhere else. read more
