Ruby - wondering when she is going for a walk.

Prairie State Veterinary Clinic is truly a wonderful clinic to take your animal (healthy or ill)! Everyone truly cares about your pet! We used to go to a very large vet practice and we prefer our pets to be familiar with their doctors (and the techs), rather than seeing a different vet each time you go in (unless you ask for a specific vet). As our pup, Ruby Bertha Marie, has gotten older, she is sadly having more health issues. Ruby has a history of mast cell tumors, so she has had MANY growths removed due to this history. Dr. Lauren Tassone is an excellent surgeon, and has always been willing to remove a small lump we find on Ruby (even when Ruby is in for her dental cleaning), to make sure Ruby does not receive many more surgeries than necessary. Our family is EXTREMELY PLEASED with the OUTSTANDING CARE and LOVE that Ruby is always shown! Taking Ruby to the vet is like seeing beloved family members. Everyone makes you feel welcome and that you are truly cared about! We are very THANKFUL to EVERYONE at Prairie State Vet for their help, guidance and moral support! Ruby is also enrolled in the THRIVE program and we have saved some money on her bills. We feel it it worth it to join. Finally, their new office building is not only BEAUTIFUL, but is very spacious (and always decorated beautifully for holidays)! We LOVE Prairie State Vet!

Ruby getting light therapy on her floating patella.

Ruby our Boston Terrier needed to come here because of her psychotic running and jumping from extremely high places... also a floating patella. They were able to offer her six sessions of light therapy for her knee. The moment that they started to do the light therapy, she was instantly calm her. And she was also ready to leap around the room as soon as we were ready to leave. They offered adorable dog goggles, as well as options for using care credit if we decided to go for more therapy sessions in the future. But she didn't need them. after her first session, she was already seemingly better. After her fourth session, she was totally normal again. But since we did already pre-paid for six, and the doctor had suggested that she at least get six, we continued with it and today she is doing spectacular! We definitely highly recommend this veterinary clinic and hospital.

From the moment we arrived, they triaged Luna quickly, carefully explaining the options and costs so we could make the best decision for her. Luna was dying, and yet they treated her with dignity and respect, not only caring for her but for us as well. We were there from 3 a.m. to nearly 9 a.m., first hoping to bring Luna home, but ultimately realizing her body could no longer go on. The staff made sure her final moments were peaceful and filled with love. The room they provided for us was comfortable and private, giving us the space to pray, talk, and say goodbye to Luna on our own terms. They allowed us all the time we needed, and for that, I will be forever grateful. The doctor who helped Luna pass was kind and gentle, petting her and reassuring us that we had done everything possible for her. In that moment, we knew Luna was at peace, joining the ranks of God's newest angels. The front desk staff handled all the details with such sweetness and care, guiding us through the cremation process so that Luna could come back home to be with her siblings and her human family once more. Letting Luna go was the hardest decision of my life. She was my best friend, my unwavering support, and my true emotional support animal, helping me through some of the toughest parts of my life. I am thankful beyond words for the team members who were there for us on November 4th, from the early morning hours through the end of their shifts. Both teams displayed compassion and professionalism, helping us give Luna the loving goodbye she deserved. For my Luna: Thank you for giving mommy, daddy, and your siblings the best years of our lives! Thank you for the laughs, smiles, and adventures! We will miss you and we are blessed to have our fur-angel watching over us! I love you my Luna Petunia! You will forever be my Luna Bear! See you again someday my sweet angel!

Tried telling us we needed to sedate our pet for xrays, come to find out from our regular vet sedation is unnecessary and the xrays were unneeded because they could visibly tell what it was. Was there for 2 hours to have 6 people rotate into the room telling us the same thing over and over but not actually doing anything. After finally giving our pet an anti vomiting shot they tell us oh so the cat actually bit someone and we'll need to do a rabies test. Ummm is that not done when they're DEAD???? We only ever found every single vet tech and veterinarian to be professional and kind, with easy to get appointments (so also a well run office), a clean space, and even several day-of emergency appointments (yes, we did have THAT kind of crazy golden retreiver. I'll never forget the time he ate an entire Calzone and the techs said they found Rosati's wrapping paper in his puke). Unfortuntaely, our dog was diagnosed with cancer last fall. In the five months since then, the kindness and compassion provided to our family leaves me without words. Dr. Kohler is a god send, and I am so grateful we had her to lean on during this process. We called what must have been dozens of times about various symptoms + prescription pick ups and are so grateful to the entire staff for dealing with us. The process of having to let him go was devastating to us, and their care was so thought out. They lit candles in the lobby, closed us off to a quiet corner of the building and turned the lights down for us. His remains were clearly handled with respect and care, as shown in the beautiful box of ashes, pawprint, etc that I was truly not expecting (we have never received ashes for any pet or human before and didn't know much about it at all). I will never forget the way they treated us as we lost our beautiful Hank too soon. Thank you to Dr. Kohler and everyone at Bremen.

She saw our furbaby and worked hands on with our baby till the end. There was another Doctor who we absolutely love. She was gentle and genuine. She was supportive! We added her to our dog list of doctors because she had a ton of knowledge on senior dogs. While she did not put her down, she still came to say her goodbye. Katelyn a groomer there worked along side of our dog. We did let the front staff know if they wanted to tell Katelyn before we put her down that she was welcome to come back. She did come back to say her goodbye to Cocoa when she did not have too. She is a fantastic groomer!!! She takes solid notes. Sofia was a beautiful soul too and we appreciated her. She very sensitive towards the situation. We did ask for clippings of our dogs fur and we never got that from them. So if this is something you want from your dog please do it on your own terms or have a trusted neighbor assist you if you can't. I was planning on turning it into a necklace but never got it. When we picked up our dogs ashes. Staff were sad. One staff she was very kind but she firmly told my husband he was a good Dad. She did not say anything to me on that matter which hurt because while I was not there mostly for the vet appointments. She did not know the work that I did at home or if I attended by phone. So that rubbed me the wrong place. When Katelyn was gone on maternity leave. They had a brand new groomer. She was crappy. She injured our dogs ear. Our dog had to receive vet care. They should have credited full amount back to us but they only gave us partial. That is not substantial when a newbie injures your dogs ear.

It could be neurological, she could have injured herself, vertebrae injury, leg injury, luxating patella (she is a 4.5 lb "jumper," she leaps and bounds all over the place). I called them to schedule an appointment based on the positive reviews of the doctor, Dr. Valenti. The woman who answered the phone was extremely indifferent and lacking any kind of compassion when I explained my dog's extremely unsettled behavior and urgent need to bring her in for an evaluation. I spent two to three minutes explaining my dog's symptomatology, only for the woman to curtly tell me "so, so, sorry, Dr. Valenti is no longer taking on new dog/cat patients." Their website does not state that Dr. Valenti is no longer accepting new animal patients, quite the contrary, so their website is quite misleading. If he doesn't want to take on any new animal patients then update your website, people, or don't have any website at all. The woman could have at least offered a referral to another vet clinic, or upon hearing my anxiety over what could be wrong with my precious fur baby talk to Dr. Valenti if he could see her. If Dr. Valenti and his office is as nice and customer friendly as the other Yelp reviews claim I would have expected more. Further, like human doctors, veterinary doctors take an oath upon graduation from veterinary college "to practice wisely, with compassion and concern for both human and animal welfare." Hmm, where is adherence to this oath? Total lack of compassion here. The other reviews are definitely canned, fake reviews and are not to be believed. Very unprofessional and unempathetic.
