As a family, we decided to meet and eat at Fairfield since we hadn't been in over a year. Our…read moreserver Kayla D. was excellent. She has been there for several years and it shows. We also met the chef again who answered all of our questions about certain dishes. He is in the process of changing the menu but it's not reflected on the print menu yet. We ordered four entrees: 1) salmon, mashed potatoes, chili; 2) salmon, shrimp bisque, mashed potatoes; 3) fried shrimp, steamed broccoli, and mashed potatoes; 4) grilled chicken Marsala. Drink orders included water, wine, margarita, and decaf coffee. The wait wasn't very long. When the food arrived, the first thing we noticed was a dish swimming in butter. Three of us had it so I asked what it was. We were told mashed potatoes but it looked more like dumplings or a cream-based soup. There was a gross amount of butter in the potatoes. I'm sorry I forgot to take pictures. We replaced the potatoes with either sweet potato tots, shrimp bisque, or French fries. My daughter said the shrimp bisque was delicious so she replaced her mashed potatoes with a second heaping. She and I both had salmon and agreed that it was dry. We asked for a sauce and the chef whipped up a nice teriyaki sauce but it didn't help. The salmon was too overcooked to be saved. The shrimp was battered lightly in a not-so-good way. It lacked the golden brown color and crunch you get with breading. However, I give them a star for hand breading fresh shrimp as that's hard to find in this area. It was plump and tasty. Blackened or grilled shrimp would be a nice addition to the menu. My husband said the chicken Marsala lacked seasoning. It looked delicious so he expected the flavor to be popping. My mom had the steamed broccoli which was closer to raw than cooked. She's not one to return food or complain especially after swapping out the potatoes. The tots and fries were hot and tasty. It would be hard to mess up frozen potatoes but I've seen it happen. The homemade chili was pretty good. My daughter and I both agreed that it had too many beans but it was rich with the right amount of cheese and onions to top it off. While there, a group of (we assume) theater actors were rehearsing throughout the room. It didn't bother us too much but it was a bit awkward and loud at times. We wondered had they reserved the dining hall and we were invading their privacy. Our kind-hearted server has no idea how she made up for this rehearsal distraction.

The door has a latch on the outside that closed when I went in. The grounds crew has no respect for anyone as well. They Picked up my ball on hole 10 and threw it in the woods. I'm already paying $40 to golf and then I have to lose a $4 golf ball because the grounds crew throws it in the woods. Overall horrible experience and this is not the first bad experience I've had there just this time was especially bad.

I give it four stars because it really is a nice course!! Very amateur friendly with wide, open fairways. But, don't let that fool you, the course, especially the greens are very challenging. The good: the course itself is in very good overall condition. The greens are being worked on, but overall pretty good shape. The fairways are wide and very open. The staff is very nice. And the weekend price of $36 for 18 holes, with a cart isn't bad at all. The not so great: the greens are sandy, so I am guessing they are being treated for new grass. But, overall not too bad. The course is not very well mapped out. You can get lost going in circles due to some of the holes not having any signs indicating what hole you are on. No signs pointing to the first hole, nor the 10th. So, I rode around for about five minutes looking for the first hole! The bunkers don't have sand in them. (That's fine with me, I can't hit out of sand very well at all.) A water hazard on the front 9, is just a puddle. (Again, fine by me. I was able to play a ball that went into the dried up part and play through the par 3 hole) Overall, it was a good experience. I will be back. And I would recommend it to anyone in the West Georgia, East Alabama area. Have fun, everyone! FORE!!
