Small town stay at a bargain price…read more I didn't realize that Wyndham had a property in the small western Kansas city of Sharon Springs, so I gave them a try on my most recent road trip. Although this is definitely a simple, cheap place to stay, the room was pretty darn good for the price. The bed was comfortable and the shower/tub was modern. Around the room, there was plenty of lighting and several outlets to charge your devices. Although you do check in/out at the adjacent diner, I had no problem doing so. It was staffed around the clock with quick, friendly service. Overall, I'd say I had a good stay here and given the price, it's a fine choice if you need a room in western Kansas.

Then we returned last weekend for another event in Wallace. Wow, it was bad. Check in is at the diner next door, as it was before, but we stood for so long waiting, waitress saw us but didn't care. No one else there but one guy and it still took forever to get served, as we ate there as well. Room was awful. Bed was really low to the ground, I thought it was my imagination. I guess you know it's a hotel from hell when the beds are close to it. Many flies in room. When I went to use bathroom, toilet had not been cleaned in months or more. Washed hands, went to use towel hanging on rack by sink, and thought it was folded and hung, it had brown dirt on it, like someone wiped dirty hands on it and left it hanging. Made us wonder about the sheets. Thin, old bedspread. I looked for a pen and paper, none. Opened top dresser drawer to see if any was there and found large wadded up blanket. Not a clean folded blanket, one that was shoved into drawer. We put a few cans of soda in fridge and there was something spilled in it and never cleaned. It appears that the restaurant workers, who seem to hate their lives and want everyone to know it, also clean rooms. Or don't clean them. But we made good use of the towel that was already dirty. We swatted all the flies in the room with it.

I received a survey request from the property and responded that it smelled like and they were like "yeah bro, this is an agricultural community". They have a "heated salt water pool," however, I can't say it's very heated. We also couldn't figure out how to turn the hot tub on and gave up after 20 minutes of looking. We had a long day and requested a late check out and it was provided with no issues. Our room was very clean and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The breakfast was good and everything was fresh up to the time of closing the breakfast area. The eating area was very clean and there was always someone making sure the area was neat and clean. I would highly recommend this Holiday Inn Express for any travelers in the Kansas / Colorado Boarder area
