I was told that Id be talked through financial plans but before I knew it, receptionists were throwing me dates for the next irrelevant session for 125 pounds. I've been going to Westminster House Dental Practice for about 4 years, and it's only now that I finally feel I can authentically write a review about them. Why, you crazy lady, I hear you ask. Well, a dentist is a pretty personal thing in my opinion, I didn't feel I could write my review of this place purely based on my last 4 years of easy regular check ups. Then, hey presto, last xmas I was struck down by the most terrible searing pain in my jaw ever. I got an emergency appointment (for the next day) at WHDP, aided on the phone by the loveliest receptionist lady ever (she's nice in person too). They fitted me on on a Friday night after 5pm, which I appreciate probably wasn't their idea of fun for the start of the weekend. It became clear I had a tooth which needed fixing up. The dentist took me through the whole procedure and gave me both NHS and private options. The whole way through, he kept telling me what was going on. That's important when you're a bit dental paranoid (like me). The procedure was painless and I am now not suffering with any repercussions. To conclude, these guys are professional, reliable, and they don't do stuff to your teeth just to cash-in. I really, truly, honestly, cross my heart and swear to die, recommend this place to other Yelpers. Three pointers I think would be useful to future dentist goers: 1. WHDP is an NHS dentist that also offers private services. That means if you're a UK resident, you can get check-ups for 17 GBP. If you're international- you can pay privately instead (not sure of cost). 2. They are a 5 minute walk from Westminster tube. You don't have to live in the area to sign up with the dentist (I travel in from SE London every time I come) 3. Dr Guenin is my dentist- feel free to ask for him. I won't say "enjoy" like I normally do at the end of a five star review since it's the dentist, but seriously, this is the best you're going to get.

However recently I turned up for an appointment and met my new dentist for the first time. When I walked in I could not work out if he was the dentist at first because he wasn't dressed in the usual dentist attire. I also found him accusing, abrupt and rather rude. I however respect that he knows what he is doing when it comes to the care of teeth etc, but don't respect his manner. I also think that had I been a middle class Caucasian woman/man his manner and tone would have been entirely different.

Initially, slightly shy about letting a stranger look into my mouth (I am told) my parents would bring me here while Dr Smith a very amiable and calm dentist would count my teeth, give me a sticker and off I went home. I doubt this is common practice but it worked for me and since I have never had a problem with going to the dentist. The hospital deals in paediatric, orthodontic and specialist dentistry. It is run by the NHS so advanced booking is necessary and the time in the waiting room is by no standards brief, but the dentists here were always fantastic throughout the many years I was a patient here for. Excellent with children, excellent in what they do and thankfully I have not had a single problem with my teeth since.

I was referred here by my dentist for wisdom tooth extraction. It was a long time before I received…read morea letter with an appointment date and time (which could be changed on calling them, but I didn't need to), but apparently it takes up to 6 weeks for them to contact you after a dentist referral. My letter was followed by an automated voice message to my phone a few days before - reminding me of my appointment and asking me to confirm that I would be there. On the day the waiting time was minimal, the staff friendly and really put me at ease. I had an Xray (you have to remove all jewellery around the area - earrings, necklace etc, however I have a lip ring that I have never removed and they just worked around it). They provided an easy to understand analysis of my wisdom tooth situation, and the procedure I would need to go through, and said I would probably need another, 3d, xray scan to know how the tooth sits, before the surgery. A few days later I received my letter asking me to book my 3d scan appointment, which I did, and I arrived on the day and went straight in for the scan. Again, I could not remove my lip ring, and neither could the scanning staff, so they worked around it and it was fine. I am currently waiting for my letter to book the surgery itself. My rating will perhaps change after that! Pros: Friendly, helpful staff, efficient appointments (minimal wait!) Cons: Having to wait for letters to be able to schedule appointments - it creates a delay and a phone or an online system would be much easier! Scanning staff not being able to help me remove my lip ring haha.

Hygienist services are available, which you must remember is private care, at which you can get good oral health advice along with good scrapping and polishing if needed. I've had a few visits, a few fillings etc... Wahab delivers an entirely pain and anxiety free experience. He's also just an exceptionally professional and extremely pleasant guy. I came out of there today, after an hour's appointment, feeling reassured and relaxed. With Wahab, I've actually come to enjoy a visit to the dentist... great Karma...seriously!
