They open for dinner at 9pm, and you will need reservations. We had our hotel arrange the reservation. They specialize in Ribeye and fresh fish, both grilled. We ordered the Ox Chop Ribeye for two. It weighed over a Kilogram and was prepared to our request of medium-rare. It came with a fantastic amuse bouche of puréed squash soup and a bite of a seafood salad. We split a fresh lettuce, tomato, grated cheese, and olive oil salad. The tomatoes were perfectly ripe and tasty. The steak was the best we have had in Spain. In my younger days I could have finished it all, but no more. The service was very attentive and the staff was very helpful and friendly. We considered ordering grilled octopus as a starter and they said it would be to much. They were right. It was not inexpensive (€171) but worth every euro. Can't recommend it enough.

My family and I came here during our trip to Bilbao. My sister and I ordered the meat medallions and simply did not enjoy them. Instead of forcing ourselves to continue eating meat that tasted like it came out of a prison cafeteria, we politely asked if we could order something else instead. The server or manager, still unclear which, although the ego strongly suggested management, immediately became defensive and hostile. He started lecturing us about how the meat is "supposed" to taste, as if informing us about pre slaughter cattle nutrition was going to magically improve this metal tasting dish. My sister continued patiently repeating that we did not enjoy this meat and asked if we could replace it with something else. At that point this fully grown man, who appeared to be well over 60 years old, aggressively grabbed the plates, slammed them together, and said, "Well I don't like the meat in your country, you Fu***** bi***." My sister is a minor, which makes the entire interaction even more disturbing. After his dramatic exit, loud enough to make the whole room uncomfortable, he shuffled back a minute later to continue explaining the meat to us as though we were lacking the intellectual capacity to understand the flavor profile of tenderloin beef. By then our appetite was gone, the atmosphere was ruined, and we decided not to order anything else. The medallions started it, but he finished the job, completely killing our appetite. The most concerning part is that he appeared to be in a leadership position. If this is how customers are treated for politely sending back a dish, it raises serious questions about basic professionalism in this restaurant. Bilbao has far too many incredible restaurants to waste your money being insulted by a man whose emotional stability clearly isn't suitable for the hospitality business PS: After reading other reviews, it appears there is a recurring pattern of defensiveness and hostility toward criticism rather than any effort to resolve issues professionally. How surprising. Shame on you sir. And shame on the restaurant for being represented by such an unprofessional individual.

Narrow but long, the bar leading to the kitchen with a few tables up front and the rest lined behind a divider to the left, it was minutes before opening that parking was allocated and walking inside without reservations the written log was consulted, plenty of room at the bar plus a duo of two-tops not yet spoken for. Oddly decorated in English Trivial Pursuit questions while music in Spanish chimed overhead, it was after several specials were offered that the menu was presented and although foie gras, ham, cheese, and tomato offerings were indeed tempting one could not ignore other traditional Basque specialties, the portions all enormous and thus explaining mostly large parties as most will need to share. Proud of their ingredients, a true mom n' pop place with the woman who'd greeted me acting as secretary, hostess, translator, and server when stopping by with warm slices of Octopus atop boiled potatoes topped liberally in salt, olive oil, and spice it was with a small break in her non-stop hustle that the simple preparation was described in great detail, her husband manning the kitchen arriving early each day to clean, tenderize, and marinade the muscular yet supple meat. Absolutely mesmerized by the opener, potatoes mostly set aside for sake of capacity since house-made bread proved far better for sopping up the paprika speckled oil, round two offered six croquettas that one is advised to to dig straight into due to the temperature, each bite virtually oilless while the fillings of cod, mushrooms, and ham were fortified with cheese and a richness quite profound. Knowing that I'd likely bit off more than I could chew in ordering a kilogram of beef after a day already filled with food atop an early start, it seemed pointless to visit Nido without a taste of the signature Txuletoia, and with an Euskal Herriko Label of Distinction proudly described by the Chef as meeting or surpassing the region's highest standards each grassy bite melted like butter on the palate with a richness rivaling even the best dry-aged steak back home at a fraction of the cost. Told that desserts should not be overlooked, all including a dozen ice cream flavors made on site, it was with a few strips of rosy red beef set aside along with a pile of fries that the meal was concluded, the cream cake no different than those served at any panaderia while the frozen rice pudding was a spot on representation of the traditional version right down to the subtle cinnamon and toothsome starchy spots.

We had a vegetarian with us and she was very accomodative. She made some good recommendations. First, wine was tasty. And also inexpensive. A great combination. For appetizers, we had the sliced tomatoes which were fresh and served with oil. Quite crisp and refereshing. Dinner was Cod traditional Basque style. The cod was done to perfection and was light and flaky. T bone on the hot rock was also ordered. I genreally do not like beef, but this was quite good. Dessert was ice cream which was rich and delicious. Overal a great dining experience in a small family style restaurant. Total bill for four people with two bottles of wine, dinner, and dessert was 240 Euros.
