Today, I took my 10-year-old son to the dentist for a scheduled appointment…read more My son is terrified of needles, and what happened today was one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life. As he sat there, crying and trembling with fear, my spouse and I did everything we could to calm him down so the dentist could do his job. But instead of showing patience or understanding, the dentist suddenly exploded in anger. He started shouting at my little boy, as if he were an adult who should know better--completely disregarding the fact that he's just a scared child. To someone who calls themselves a doctor, someone who has supposedly dedicated their life to helping others, I have only one thing to say: shame on you. How can you not understand that phobias are real, and for many people, they are uncontrollable? I've known grown adults in their 50s who are terrified of flying and have never stepped foot on an airplane, even if it means spending hours driving instead of taking a short flight. Does that make them deserving of ridicule or anger? Absolutely not. This kind of fear can happen to anyone--child or adult. As adults who claim to be wise, compassionate, and mature, we should be offering support in moments like these, not making them worse. My spouse and I are heartbroken and furious with ourselves for not standing up for our son in that moment. I can't sleep because of the pain in my head and the guilt in my heart. Worst of all, I can't stop worrying about how this horrible experience will stay with my precious child. How can I help him heal from this? If you're a regular patient of this dentist and trust their work, that's your choice. But I beg you--never leave your child alone in their care. Always stay with them. I hope sharing this deeply painful and emotional experience doesn't upset you, but I can't stay silent. I'm outraged and deeply disappointed in this so-called doctor, and I know for certain I will never step foot in their office again--even if I have to endure the worst pain imaginable.

Dr Ray Katz is a highly competent, affable, and trustworthy dentist…read more I make the trek from downtown Toronto to see him. He was referred to me by a colleague and is worth the trip. The office is clean and the staff competent and courteous. I liken most dentists to mechanics for the teeth. More than once me and my family have been talked into having procedures we didn't need - or had procedures that were very poorly performed - weakening the integrity of the tooth. Nightmares! I can't say enough positive things about Dr Katz and his practice. Highly recommended!

Endodontists are another story. By the time you need to see an endodontist, you're not having much fun and any concerns about "personable" go out the window. Finding a good dentist and an endodontist in the same clinic is pretty much impossible. I had some dental pain and also very sensitive teeth that seemed to get gradually worse. It got so bad that I was hesitant to step outside in the winter, as the cold air was so painful on my mouth. I had visited my trusted family dentist a couple of times, but he couldn't find anything wrong. He referred me to a couple of specialists. The first one poked my sore mouth and rubbed Dent-Ice around to locate the pain. As all of my teeth were super sensitive, I nearly leaped out of the chair, and she scolded me. Finally, she said I that she couldn't find any specific problems but that probably one of my teeth would have to be extracted. The second specialist was somewhat rude when I recoiled at the suggestion that he would also rub ice around my teeth and gums. I explained that my teeth were very sensitive and the mere thought was upsetting to me. He simply shrugged and walked away. Finally, my teeth became so achy that I just went to a dental clinic near my house. Dr. Katz was gentle, and after a thorough exam (no ice!) he referred me to Dr. Rapp (the endodontist in the clinic). He also prescribed antibiotics and some pain meds. After several days of antibiotics, my mouth began to heal - it felt like a miracle. (I was now more than annoyed at my regular dentist for not prescribing the same) When I saw Dr. Rapp, I was nervous, but quickly became impressed by his patient and thorough explanation of my dental issue. He told me what he felt needed to be done and answered all my questions. He even said that he had time to begin work on my teeth that very day. What a difference! Drs. Katz and Rapp changed my life. I had been in constant pain for a long time, but after treatment at this dental clinic, the pain was gone. I continued to visit this office for the next year. Unfortunately, I then moved away from this town, but I wouldn't hesitate to refer my friends and neighbours in the area to this dental office. What a difference they made to my life!
