While we were staring in the Mala Strana, it was just over a mile walk to get to Smichov, having a chance to pass by the Memorial to the Victims of Communism on our walk. Interesting setting and location, would have never found the place if it weren't for Janek, The Honest Guide on You Tube, calling the Eggs Benedict, "legendary." We can vouch for that, the soufflé was amazing looking and tasting. Big enough that my girlfriend could not finish the plate. I opted for the traditional English breakfast. It was a full plate of food that was fantastic! The beans were flavorful, the roasted tomatoes juicy and warm. The sausage AB's bacon cooked perfectly. The string is unique, very artsy in my opinion, combining indoor/outdoor seating. Very open and comfortable, appeared to be many locals taking in a morning coffee or breakfast and working. Actually, it was quite on accident that I met someone one evening who gave me a tour. The Zizkov TV Tower is known as the ugliest building in Prague by most of its natives, but I quite enjoy the uniqueness of the structure. And seeing it towering amidst the sea of buildings always let me know which way was home:) No matter where you are in Prague, its hard to miss that iconic landmark soaring over the skyline. There are nine pods along the tower - the three lower ones at around 210 feet house a beautiful restaurant/bar with glass windows all around, offering a 360-degree view as you dine. Right upstairs from the restaurant, a few feet up, is a luxury one-bedroom hotel! And the three pods above those contain the observatory deck where you can also get a panaromic view of Prague. So, we stopped in to the tower late evening just after sunset, and we were actually able to go up to the observation deck without having to pay as you do during the day. The elevators to the right took us up to the restaurant. And then the elevators to the left took us to the observation deck. Nighttime views are great. My fave part of the observation deck is the dimly lit, zen-like room with the space pod chairs. Suspended from the ceiling by one chain with another chain loosely holding each chair to the ground, and allowing it to sway gently as you sit in ... utter bliss! Felt like you were floating. I could have stayed there forever. We actually stayed up there for quite a while. One of the other rooms on this level shows where the tower ranks among its fellow towers in the World Federation of Great Towers. To note: David Cerny's giant bronze baby statues that crawl up the sides of the tower were removed for restoration, to be returned later this year. However, if you don't get a chance to see the babies on the tower, you can see three more of them "crawling" in Kampa Park, right next to Charles Bridge and the Cerny Museum.

This tower was built in 1891, a 63.5 meter version of the Eiffel Tower, located centrally in Petrin Gardens which is a large park area directly south of the Prague Castle plateau (the closest section of the park being only 5 minutes away by foot). The tower itself is about a 30 minute walk from the castle, with some gentle slopes, not too steep. It's helpful to download G-maps in advance as cell signal can get weak in certain areas. There are also a number of different trails so better to be prepared and save yourself some extra wandering, though with the number of periodic signs and other visitors you shouldn't get too lost. If you're approaching the hill from the east, there's funicular that takes you uphill from the lower section of the city though when I was there this was under repair, (that might've been why the tower wasn't so crowded too?) Timed tickets are available to purchase in advance and this is recommended during peak tourist season. Prices vary depending if you purchase in-person or ascend the tower by stairs or elevator. 220CZK purchased at the tower in person, 290CZK for online ticket. 150CZK for use of the elevator. In mid-autumn on a weekday evening around 5:30pm the crowd was pretty thinned out (maybe bc the funicular was down). I think there were 2-3 parties in line when I purchased my ticket at the counter inside the entrance. Thankfully the staff was friendly and spoke much better English than I had any clue about Czech, the transaction was smooth, and up the stairs I went! The climb up wasn't bad, a mini workout of 299 steps with a good-sized middle platform to rest if you like and admire the views from an outdoor observation deck. The top level is an enclosed area with 360 degree views. Winding around the center of the tower is a double helix staircase; one staircase goes up, the other down. They're strict in enforcement. Also the stairs are partially covered though partially open to the elements so in the case of inclement weather be wary. Once you're on the middle and top decks, the views are stupendous! On a partially sunny late evening you could see for miiiles. Bathrooms are not located in the tower so if you need the closest ones are paid about 25CZK (€1), only exact change accepted.

You stop first at a large platform less than halfway up -- to pretend you're admiring the views while catching your breath -- then proceed to the smaller top. I went back in the morning to try to snag a ticket, and the line at 9:55am was already looong. After I got in line, it instantly grew looooonger behind me. I got a 2pm ticket, which I feel very lucky to get. I came a little late, but thankfully my group for my time slot didn't go too far. I can see why we needed a tour guide. We were led up these veerryyyyyy narrow winding stairs for multiple floors. It felt very scary, going up these narrow and steep stairs that I worry about the stability of, AND going so high up. The view of the Baroque Library was worth it. What a beautiful library. Made me feel like I was in a magical library! Took a bunch of photos and a video. I just wish we could actually enter the library. Everyone was crowding to take photos and videos from the doorway. To reach the Astrological Hall, we went up wooden stairs that are the original from the 18th century! More scary stair-climbing. The views of Prague from the top floor of the tower balcony were very beautiful. Even though I was scared of heights, dropping my phone, and bumping into someone and risking falling, it was very cool to be so high up and get a bird's-eye view of Prague. Made it back down safely! This is not a great tour for anyone scared of heights. And you'll be disappointed if you were expecting to enter the library.

Online tickets…read moresold out about a week in advance, so the only option was to get a same-day ticket by lining up at 9AM. I got to the ticket office at 8:50AM and there were already about 100 people in line. At around 10AM, I made it to the front of the line and was able to purchase tickets for 1:30PM. Most same-day tickets run out by 11AM. The tour itself was only 45 minutes long and no one could even go into the heavily advertised Baroque Library (1 star off). The library was barely lit and the tour group had to look in from the entrance. The library looked impressive overall, but I was not able to see the details the tour guide described, being held so far from them. In fact, I learned more from the digital rendition of the library. The was not what I had expected after lining up an hour and paying CZK380 for a live tour. The tour included the Astronomical Tower, but it was just an empty room with two small display cases of small (astronomical?) instruments (1 star off). The aerial view was nice...if you could squeeze in the tight balcony. An obese lady in my group sadly could not experience it. The tour did not include the Chapel of Mirrors, which was included in past tours. Now it requires a separate ticket. Save your money and time by learning about this place online...from the comfort of your own home or the Starbucks across the street from the Klementinum.

It has the carefully crafted appearance of a "hidden gem" or a badly kept secret, even down to the classy and none-too-subtle black-on-black print on their business card. What you get inside is a small, cool design with friendly staff and a decent array of booze. The stuff they make, they make well. Their cocktails are very nice indeed and their snacks are fantastic! I can't tell if those nuts are tiny almonds or posh peanuts, but they are tasty as! When I asked for a Gin & Tonic, the waiter asked if I wanted with lime or cucumber... "You have Hendrick's?!" I said, incredulous. They do indeed, and other more esoteric gins as well. Now, I got into some trouble asking for a White Russian. G&Ts and Caucasians are the only two cocktails I really drink, but they failed me on the latter. They only had semi-skimmed milk... They made me a Black Russian which was decent, but ultimately a bit disappointing, as it wasn't what I wanted. Don't let the photos fool you. There usually is a good amount of patrons (and staff!) in here, and they span the gamut of Types. Good place for people watching, then. Definitely give this place a try if you're around, and then pretend to your friends that you didn't find it on Yelp, but have insider knowledge on the coolest bars. Because it's that kind of place.
