My review at AVVO law review was rejected twice, most likely because the company asked M. Obenauf to provide feedback. The last response I received from AVVO was: "Simply accused Meg Obenauf of criminal activity or unethical behavior without providing factual details." Yes, I AM ACCUSING HER OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY and unethical behavior by taking advantage of my mentally ill mother. Do I have medical proof of my mothers mental illness? No, because I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS to anything related to my mother due to her trust that M. Obenauf created. Also, M. Obenauf should have her extremely elderly patients that are greater than 65 yrs of age cleared by their treating medical professional for mental fitness before adjusting or creating any new estate plans for them. Here is my story: Our family hired M. Obenauf's services about five years ago and at the time, the office provided draft copies of revised documents for review. Upon requesting clarification of legal terms we were so confused we had to hire a second attorney to explain what was being revised. Once it was discovered that the revisions were not what our family had agreed to, Meg used her influence on my aged mother (late 70's at the time) with early onset dementia in a private session to change our current trust and lock her children out of it completely by assigning an outside successor trustee, restricting access to their own personal items kept with my mother, and other extremely manipulative items included in the new revised trust. Meg uses her legal savvy to manipulate seniors, who are in ill health to destroy family relationships. Her fees are exorbitant also, compared to other estate attorneys. I have written another review on AVVO about the other ethical attorneys who do not over charge for their services and provide much more personal service compared to M. Obenauf, such as coming to your home to explain everything in detail and answering questions quickly without me having to hire another attorney to explain what is being proposed. Meg is wonderful as a person and as an attorney, and her Assistant Dani also wonderful. I will never be able to thank them enough for the efficient way they helped me. They completely exceeded my expectations. I had one negative experience with an attorney on Maui before, so I didnt know what to expect. But they were just amazing, efficient and very professional and knowledgeable about probate cases. And their rates are very very reasonable and they used, in my case, a flat rate. So no matter what happened, they never charged me one cent more. I was going through severe depression and grief due to the death of someone very dear to me. My wife & I used a diy software product to create a will and trust. After attending one of Obenauf's dinner seminars, we became concerned that the will and trust we created were inadequate. A bonus to the seminar was a no cost consultation which we used to have her review our will and trust. Meg pointed out items that were outdated, insufficient and not applicable to Hawaii. Additionally, our family circumstances had changed and we were having trouble deciding how to handle them. Meg, having dealt with a variety of family situations, explained to us various options to meet our needs. My wife and I had been considering establishing a trust for quite a while, but were not sure whether we really needed one.
