I've been here twice, once for cardiac rehab (2yrs ago) and the most recent for a breast biopsies. Rehab: fantastic staff, absolutely kept me on the right track, positive frame of mind and made sure that I didn't get carried away and try to do more than I was supposed too. Breast Biopsies: First, it took a few months to actually get this scheduled, not with them as a whole, not at all, they were fantastic.. but with my Insurance. Anyway, made my appointment and the long and short of it is, the staff, especially my nurse who held my hand, wiped my brow and talked me through the pain, because it hurts a lot, gave me water and helped me remain calm and breath. She is an absolute angel & if hadn't been for her, I don't think I could have managed, my biopsy's were 1 day 8:30a-12:30p, that's a long time....and Like I said b4- do not let the fear and the it can't happen to me---dissuade you from taking care of yourself, I put it off for far toooooo long. I highly recommend this location for medical care. I see that others have not had the same positive experiences or desired outcome, but I can only speak for myself and my experiences, which have been positive and exemplary. read more

Tried to get a first-time appointment with Dr. Krushna B. Amin MD. Just saying "First time appointment" was enough. I don't know what the deal was but the rep just came up with the story of insurance companies put our information up by mistake. This is BLUE CROSS BLUE SHEILD, they are taken EVERYWHERE. If you don't want patients don't advertise or have your information, put on real health insurance companies in-network list. Failure of Care in ER Placed Patient at Risk Our experience in the Emergency Room at Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center was not only disappointing--it was dangerous. The lack of urgency, incomplete evaluation, and failure to follow through on care placed my 74-year-old father's life at serious risk. My father, who is diabetic, has a brain shunt, and is in kidney failure requiring dialysis three times per week, arrived at the ER at 11:00 AM June 22nd after falling and losing consciousness. He is a medically fragile patient for whom every minute matters. Despite this, he was not evaluated until 12:30 PM--only after my mother had to ask for help after 90 minutes of being ignored. The charge nurse's response--"can't you see we're busy"--was dismissive and unacceptable given the situation. He was then left lying in a hallway bed for approximately 10 hours with minimal monitoring and no sense of urgency, despite his high-risk condition and in pain. Dr. Chetna Singh first evaluated him around 1:15 PM, ordering a head CT and knee X-ray, followed by an EKG at 2:00 PM. By 3:00 PM, she returned and stated nothing was broken and planned to discharge him. This decision was made despite my father repeatedly complaining of rib pain, which was never evaluated or imaged. Additionally, the knee brace that was ordered was never applied. At 3:45 PM, during routine discharge vitals, his oxygen level was found to be critically low at 80%--a potentially life-threatening condition that had gone unnoticed for hours. Only at that point did Dr. Singh order a lung scan. That scan revealed three broken ribs--an injury that had been missed earlier and could have contributed to his respiratory decline. He was only then given pain medication and his primary care physician, Dr. Marley, was contacted. When Dr. Marley arrived and examined him, he immediately noticed that one leg was shorter than the other--an obvious sign of a possible hip fracture. He ordered a hip X-ray at 6:30 PM. Despite the urgency, this imaging was not performed that evening. After more than 10 hours in a hallway bed--during which serious injuries were missed and his oxygen levels dropped to dangerous levels--my father was finally admitted and transferred to a room around 9:45 PM. The following morning, Dr. Marley returned and was alarmed to learn that the hip X-ray he ordered the previous evening had still not been completed. It was finally performed around 10:00 AM, confirming a hip fracture that had gone untreated for nearly a full day. read more

I was at the ER section of the hospital on Tues July 14th at 1:30 pm because I was walking too fast to cross the street and tripped on the curb and fell. I got a very bad bruise on my eye and knee and had chest pains. The dr examined me about 5:45 and said they were going to do xrays and a ct scan of my head. They finally got me an hour later, but I had to also wait for the ct scan which came an hour after that. I asked when I would be getting the results and was told about 45 min. Then another came and took my blood pressure, which was high, then 15 min later, came again and said he was doing a manual bp. at that point I said NO, I want to go home because now it was 7.5 hours since I got there. Doesn't any of the drs realize that I had very little sleep the night befor because of extreme pain, didn't eat since 5am, and my husband was going crazy waiting because he had to be at work the next day at 6am. Don't they think that could cause high bp? By the way I didn't go to the er to have my bp taken 4 times. they never addressed my injuries an I had to go back to a warehouse down the street from the hospital to get my results because it was impossible to do online because I kept getting shut out read more

My wife spontaneously started exhibiting possible stroke symptoms, I brought her to the ER at Ocean and the response was overwhelmingly positive!!! Immediate response from a very adept team which started assessing her condition. I would especially like to call out one of the lead nurses Samantha who was one of the best medical professionals I have ever seen in action. I didn't get to meet many of the other people involved in her care but I would rate them 110%. I would trust these people with my life!!!! read more

They deserve a zero rating. I went to the emergency room at 10:30 am this morning after falling down the stairs at home and banging my head on the concrete floor. I was nauseous and hurried to get a CTscan. I was treated terribly after the housekeeping representatives came by unsolicited by me and I told them the floor under bed in the overflow area in the lobby where I was being treated was dirty and then Nicole from patient services came by to ask if she could do something for me. I told her I was concerned that it was already after 1pm and I wasn't given my CT brain Scan results and that I was afraid I had a brain bleed and didn't know the X-ray results of my knee which I believe the cartilage was completely torn. They don't have an MRI machine to check for that kind of injuries & I was told by the nurse, Olivia, that I needed to see Orthopedic specialist outside the hospital to have an MRI done. They never put ice on my injuries until I had to ask them for ice packs after almost 3 hrs. after I arrived. Then the head nurse comes over and starts questioning me like I did something wrong by answering the housekeeping representatives and the patient representative questions honestly. She told me to tell her my side of the story and her tone was outright rude. I am 69 years old and my son saw that I was visibly upset how I was being spoken to and being ganged up on and tried to interject when the head nurse told him she was talking to me, not him and to lower his voice. I then told her she was talking louder than my son was. The other nurse signaled for security and then my son seeing that security was standing behind the screen listening to our conversation that he pulled the screen back and turned on his cellphone to record how security was violating HIPA Laws by listening into our private conversation. The security guard told him he couldn't record the conversation and that he had to leave. My son said he wasn't going to let them gang up on me and felt I wasn't safe there and that he wasn't leaving me. The security guard moved into my son's personal space and my son asked him if he was going to put his hands on him to throw him out. I told the security guard that he needed to back up since my son was backed in a corner by him and that the guard was in my son's personal space. I told the 5 staff members that were standing there that I was leaving too but wanted the test results since I still hadn't heard from the doctor if I had a brain bleed. I never got the rest of the X-rays that the doctor ordered because the security guard was too busy saying they were going to call the police since my son refused to leave me. Ultimately my son left me when the doctor came. I left right after that. This was disgraceful and I will NEVER EVER go to this hospital for treatment, emergency or otherwise, again. read more

Brought my mother to the ER, which was wonderful. The nurses in the ER took great care of her. Once she went to the CCU, it all went downhill. She was there for over 2 weeks, they made her worse. They released her to rehab. The rehab nurse and doctor were horrified at the condition she was in (she couldn't breathe, horrible bed sore from back to front) and told me she needed to go right back to the hospital. We took her to CentraState which fixed her right up. They removed liquid from her lungs, and took care of her bed sore. All the nurses and doctors at CentraState were wonderful. They saved my mother's life.\ read more

I would like to know how they can do a urinalysis without the urine. My urine sample sat on the table the entire time we were there. No one came in for it. It was STILL sitting on the table untouched when we left the ER. Before leaving I was given paperwork that included my blood work and by some miracle, a urinalysis! The reviews for the last year are filled with one star after one star of patients talking about the dispicable and inhumane treatment they receive. God forbid you have a preexisting condition and go to the ER for severe symptoms unrelated to that condition, you will be treated like dirt and told "the emergency room is for real emergencies." At least according to Dr. Sandra Harlow. It doesn't matter if you are delirious from the pain or if your white blood Cell count ( clearly a sign of infection) is through the roof. This review is for floor 4 this is about Nurse Frank and the floor Manager Nurse They transported my mom up to floor 4 from the ER after spending the night we Were going through questions they had my Mom down for DNR and DNI that's is not true. I asked him to change it he said he would check but he said we always ask before we do anything any way I said well what if we are not here that's a problem this needs to change. The resident doctor came in and told me my sister must have told them that she I ran home this morning and I said no way he said or maybe they spoke directly to your mom. I said well they shouldn't be asking a dementia patient that and she has NEVER IN HER LIFE suggested DNR OR DNI she has always wanted everything Possible to save her. I told them I had to stay with my mom and asked for recliner to sleep in bc I am her care taker and she freaks out if I'm not with her overnight. He had the floor nurse come in and talk to me that she would not give Me recliner to sleep in that this is hospital policy. I told her I just spent 6 days on 5th floor and she said that shouldn't have happened. I explain why I had to stay with my Mom and she said I could stay but she would not supply me with sleeping arrangements to be comfortable. I said why and she said those chairs are for patients not visitors. And if visitors have these chairs that might make more people sleep here. She said I am giving you a comfortable chair but not a recliner at least it's not a black fold up chair. Apparently she is FULLy against visitors comforting their loved ones. And now I know why bc they do not want anyone to witness them not taking care of their loved ones. Examples are ::: At check in I asked Nurse Frank to have my mother changed bc she is still in the same diaper she had all day in the er and I know it's wet bc when they bought her up she was in the middle of urinating. he said ok never did it or had anyone do it I also explained she had a pad on for compression soar and he said he would look at it I asked to check and see if the pad needed to be changed I put it on her at home Monday before she can in he never did. He never came back in to see my mother just to bring me the chair I had to spend the night in and tell me I couldn't sleep there and he was not getting me the recliner. I asked him to call Doctor and find out why she is getting 100 ml saline instead of lower dose bc Dr Palmer said he only Wanted it until she could drink on her own he never came back to tell me anything about notes or anything. I cant understand any reviews under 5 stars. My brother was driven to this hospital by me, yesterday, thinking he was having a heart attack. The security guard got him into triage within 7 minutes and ekg completed within 15. My brother was diagnosed with 4 blood clots in the lungs. Within minutes he was given intravenous drugs and within 2 hours he was given a procedure to suction the large blood clots (4) from his lungs. This could be an extremely risky procedure . EVERY doctor kept us informed and was able to remove, by suction, the blood clots in lungs and now working on the 3 in his legs. My brother is a disabled veteran who lost his leg due to a drunk driver hitting him while he was doing the good deed of pushing his car when his fiance let it run out of gas and a selfish drunk driver plowed into him causing him to need skin grafts, fight blood clots through age 19 to 36 when they eventually took his leg to avoid gangrene. Last night at the hospital after the procedure, a nurse slipped a medal into my brother's room to thank him for his military service and ultimately losing his left while on base. I defy any one to give this hospital under 5 stars. I especially want to give thanks to the emergency staff, Dr Emile and Courtney B. who provided answers to every question I had and who my brother respected for their kindness. Once in CCU, love, kindness and recognition go to Dr Chaudhri, (redident) Cody N, (night nurse), Donna at CCU desk and Morgan (night nurse,). 5 all the way. My daughter went to the hospital emergency room for what we thought was a bat bite on her ankle, we have never been so rediculed by healthcare staff including the Dr., the Dr. Actually laughed at my daughter, and when my daughter asked why she wasn't being treated for the bite, she was told it was overkill, the nurse at the nurses station, wouldn't answer any of her questions, and threatened to call security,.my daughter wasn't even raising her voice. Well they had my daughter so upset she was crying and shaking. Went to another hospital who actually treated her with like a human and is being treated correctly. Never again for this hospital, terrible! The nurse at the nurses station kept yelling, your discharged the exit is over there, and then asked her if she needed the psych ward! Unbelievable! My Mother is spending some time here for IV antibiotics. I love this hospital. The ER was amazing. So clean and everyone very helpful. The nursing staff is so great. We were treated like royalty! The covid protection protocol is being strictly enforced. At this time only one visiter is aloud at a time. I saw several folks trying to get in with more then one and the rules were being enforced with friendly professionalism. I am grateful that we are aloud to visit at all. My mom is on a covid-free floor. I am equally impressed with the nursing and tech staff that we have on 4 th floor. The doctors on staff are also terrific. The company hates and fraudulently bills Veterans Administration patients. Both they and their contractors (doctors, lab, xray, etc.) refuse to deal with the Veterans Administration and insist that the veteran pay. This is corporate policy, I had the same problem with them 6 or 7 years ago. If you know a veteran using the VA for healthcare warn them to stay away from OUMC and other Hackensack Meridian facilities. You'll have problems even if as in this case a VA doctor tells you to go to the hospital's emergency room. The company is also engaged in Medicare fraud. Four of their contractors used information provided by the hospital to file fraudulent Medicare claims. Fortunately Medicare caught it and rejected the claims. read more

I worked as an Anesthesiologist at OUMC for four years and I was a on site witness of the sad deterioration of the facility, especially after the corporate take over by Hackensack Meridien Health. The moral and job satisfaction is dismal, the nurses and the employed physicians, which is most of them, is extremely low, typical for a corporate institution, focused primarily on money and nothing else. if you have the misfortune to be admitted expect all sorts of unnecessary test and procedures done with the single purpouse to increase revenues. Your health and wellbeing are a very distant second, which of course is the main reason health care is so unaffordable to so many people. To sum it up you are going to get subprime care by indifferent and demoralized providers at exorbitant prices. I worked there full time for four years and I stand by my statement. The absolute worst hospital you can go to. My mom was rushed here from their affiliated urgent care as they found a small brain bleed and she needed to be seen immediately. Upon her arrival to Brick hospital, her first intake nurse was a sweetheart. I helped fill out her information as she has numerous health problems. That nurse stated it was most likely a stroke with her symptoms and she would be here for awhile to do some testing. At least they would find out what was wrong - Great! It all went downhill from there. Every nurse after that one treated my mom as if she was incoherent and couldn't fend for herself. They left her without water and even though she would press the call button it would take a half hour for the nurse to come to the room. If they came sooner, they never got her what she needed. For this reason I consistently stayed there. They let her lay and sleep in the hospital bed for five days, did one MRI and a CT scan and while I was at work my mom called me stating they're sending her home!!!! With a brain bleed???? When I rushed back to the hospital, she couldn't stand on her own or even sit up from the bed. This was not a problem before she got here WHATSOEVER. The nurse claimed all her problems were from previous health issues but if she had general weakness when she got here, they did nothing to help and just had her waste away in the bed for five days. At this point, I honestly could've gave my mom better care myself since I'm going to nursing school. If you have an option go to JERSEY SHORE, the BEST hospital in the area. read more

HMH - JACK MARTIN BLVD, BRICK, NJ: PALLATIVE CARE: I have been on a journey with my 89/90 year old Father for almost a year in tending to his medical needs. I have been to doctors visits, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and in home rehabilitation, more times than I can count. I have personally dealt with countless doctors, nurses and therapists, from all these different locations on a daily basis. My father has a legal medical proxy, for God knows how long and his wife is listed first to handle his medical decisions, myself and brother follow. At this time, she is now 91 years old and mentally unable to tend to medical decisions, therefore, I have been doing all the work and not once has anyone questioned my standing, as clearly I am the obvious choice as opposed to his 91 year old wife, whose primary doctor, deemed her mentally inept to even begin to understand an iota of what I have been doing, something, she was glad to have put into my hands, as I was doing everything in the best interest of my Father and her husband. However, with all of this being said, here comes Palliative Care, from this hospital, into the picture. On Friday, June 28th, 2024, Tracy, from this department, stepped into my fathers hospital room, while his wife was there and I was on the phone with their aide. Our family protocol, has been, since this journey started, that if I was not personally in the hospital or any other facility, to put me on speaker phone, when a doctor or nurse comes into the room, so I can speak on his behalf or listen to what they have to say. This too was something, my father also did, when he was able. Well, I hear palliative care begin to ask his wife questions, in which she would have no idea how to answer. I quickly jumped in and explained that I am his daughter, and have been his care giver and can answer any questions you may have. She brings up his medical proxy and that his 91 year old wife is listed before mine. Yes, I understand, it also indicates, if she is not able to tend to him, that me and my brother are listed next and she is unable to correctly answer your questions, you need to speak with me. As per the aide, they asked her what day of the week is it and do you know why you are here today. She was able to answer these EASY questions correctly, therefore, continued to speak with her. Than they later called me to instruct, that I no longer have any authority !! WHAT !! They gagged the nurses station from speaking to me with updates on fathers medical condition. In a blink, these horrible people, robbed me of what was to be my father's last days, in knowing results, from a particular procedure, he had the previous day, in which the doctor received authorization, to proceed, after explaining the reasons and the risks, from ME, not his 91 year old wife, FROM ME AND ME ALONE !! As had with every other medical person, before them. They took their directives from ME, as they understood that was the obvious choice, in making rational decisions, and not his wife. Palliative care, in my opinion, did not like the way I jumped into that one conversation, with authority, when she stepped in my fathers hospital room, therefore, took it to personal level against me. Not what was right for my father, no not that.. as anyone with half a brain, could understand that I have been the one, which all records in their hospital indicate, after countless visits and stays, making his decisions, and prior to them, coming into the picture, not one doctor or nurse EVER questioned. This was on June 28th, 2024 and he passed at 6:31 AM, on June 30th, 2024. In my opinion, these people, involved in my story, from palliative care, should not have anything to do, with your loved ones. For the Love of God, keep them away, as their interest, as proven to me, was not with the patient, otherwise, I would not be writing this, as we speak. read more

I was admitted through the ER on a Sunday evening for extremely high blood pressure finally 12 hours later I made it to a room and a real bad. After six days on Friday I was literally pushed out because they were desperate for the beds. I was discharged within hours of having another pain med within the hour & handed an adult diaper to drive home with! I was doing a colon cleanse since the day before which hasn't ended yet but they didn't care that I was still having uncontrollable bowel movements! On my way home but I'm driving myself on route 35 I nodded out several times almost causing an accident. I don't know what the DON was thinking by rushing me out but they are being reported to the state health department! read more

I will NEVER and I mean NEVER come back to this hospital. I came in on Friday Feb 16 for a Gallbladder attack. We worked out having 1 test a day for an entire fricken week. With some day me just waiting to see a damn doctor. This is already an uncomfortable situation throwing up after meals, terrible stomach pain, and just being away from home. It took until the following Friday to finally see a surgeon to discuss removal which could have and should have been decided days before!!! I'm scheduled in the morning for 7 pm surgery, then pushed to 8, then 9, then at 10 the surgeon comes and wants to push it to Sunday!! Meantime, I haven't held down a full meal since Feb 14th!! And I'm in pain. Is this a joke! Is this how we treat our patients! I'm extremely troubled that this is how patients are treated. I have been patient and nice and understanding but now I'm done. I am a single mom of 3 kids. I need to go home and it is a joke to these doctors. Then the doctor this is the 2nd time during this visit I was basically called a liar. 1st by the GI, saying he didn't believe the Murphy test or my blood work?!? wtf does that even mean? He orders a test and only does half of it and then 5 days later decides to do the other half??? That does not seem right at all! Then the surgeon is #2 to basically call me a liar, because they have never seen someone this sick with the issue I am having!! Wow, how about screw you! I can go home and not manage my pain and vomiting because that's basically what they are doing here. Sad so damn sad!!! Disgusting. read more

There also is a woman with broken English that doesn't understand English and sent me to the wrong hospital for scheduling. And they don't call you back when they say they will. It has taken 2.5 hours to be get The order for the CT. Then an hour to go get the CT. Now we are waiting over an hour to have someone read the CT. So we are here 5 hours and no nothing. My Mom is a wreck and we Just want an answer. Good or Bad. read more

Not from this area but I developed severe right leg pain and my doctor wanted me to have a ultrasound. I worked in a Emergency Room so I expected to be there for a few hours and possibly all day. I was triaged promptly and brought to my room within ten minutes of arrival. I was seen by the nurse and Doctor and tests ordered within thirty minutes of arrival. X Rays and ultrsound done within fifteen minutes of seeing doctor. All in all out of Emergency within two hours.. First the HospItal was clean and bright. All employees I encountered were very courteous and professional. My nurse , Sherry, and Doctor Arjun Singh, were very professional and very caring. The care I got was exceptional in every way possible! If you need a hospital and you are in this area, I highly recommend this hospital. read more

My spouse was admitted here twice, one for influenza B on the 5th floor and the other for being light headed on 4th floor. On his first admission, His medication for high blood pressure were not given in the entire 4 days he was admitted and we keep on telling nurses and doctors that his blood pressure is high and trending higher because they are not giving his medications. We ended up bringing his high blood pressure medication from home and treating his hypertension ourselves. Then the staff suddenly said, his blood pressure went back to normal. What a joke!!!!!!! They still admitted him for mild flu for 4 days The second time he went back again and we gave this hospital benefit of the doubt since this is in our community. He has light headed and kept him for over 5 days when all labs were negative, Xray neg, blood culture negative, nasal swab all negative and nobody can explain to him why they had admitted him for 5 days eventhough he felt better after 1 bag of iv fluids . Once again they were trying to give him a different high blood pressure medication when his valsartan at home was working perfectly fine before but they are not giving it. The doctors never listen to him and the history taking is totally wrong. We will never come back here. We would rather drive farther. 2 bad experiences were enough!!!!!! read more

I wish I could give it less than one star. Visiting hour policies are ridiculous, no limit on the amount of people can come in a room at the same time. No matter what hour of the day or night. No matter how drunk you are or how sick you friends are. read more
