Adolescent Ward In 2019, I was admitted after an attempt. A van picked me up from the hospital on the south side of Abilene. All of my belongings were taken from me, and I had to strip off all my clothes, spending my entire stay wearing a hospital gown. I wasn't given shoes until my second-to-last day there. The building had a prison-like atmosphere, surrounded by a 15-foot fence, cinderblock walls, and keypads on every door. They tried to drug me with depressants, but I refused to take them, and my parents agreed that I shouldn't. There was a counselor, referred to as "the doctor in charge of discharging patients," and a therapist who came once or twice a week. The therapist would have all the male patients sit at a table and talk about things that could distract us from our depressive thoughts. She'd then have us write down how we felt on a piece of paper. This approach was highly ineffective at addressing the root causes of depression or helping those with suicidal thoughts. Whenever I saw the counselor, all he did was try to convert me to Christianity, insisting that going to church would fix me. read more

My son is currently a patient at this facility and the experience for us is horrible. Being a concern parent were not allowed to get updates on his well-being which I think I don't think make any sense, all the staff says is that he is over 18. The strange they kept him due to not being mined right so why wouldn't they not allow a wellness check. My son went about 4 days without any of his own clothing due to he's wife forgetting to take him some clothes. They had visitation this pass Monday, and he called us asking why we didn't go, due to no one told us, actually he's wife said it was on Tuesday which was a lie. And today he called he's older brother asking why none of us went to the family therapy session again no one informed any of us that we could be there for support. This is all new to us and the sad thing is my son was seeking help he didn't ask for this his currently 24 of age and is married with one child, so he is doing everything in his power to do what's right just like many others. Now being a concern parent, I have attempted to reach out to who I believe is one of the Directors that over sees the inpatient process last Sunday and has yet received a response which I feel is unacceptable due to the nature of the seriousness of mental illness that we see and go through every day. All I ask for is to make easier for the families to be there for the loved ones, cause at the end of day who else is going to love your loved ones like you do. As a concern parent please reach out or do something for the families that trying to be a part of their loved one's struggles from past experience a small village can make the difference between life or death. read more

I was a hostage in Oceans Behavioral "Hospital"off Mason Rd in Katy Texas in May 2024 (with Rhonda's sister) and all she says is true but even worse. I give this "prison disguised as a hospital" ZERO STARS. Upon arriving, I was blasted in the face with the strong smell of URINE and POOP. It was 2:00 am when I was transferred from a regular medical hospital, there were people just wandering around in the middle of the night. After paperwork I went straight to bed, locked the door to sleep.  The next morning I was frightened and disgusted with what I saw. One big stinky, dirty community room with lots of patients (with not much supervision) stumbling aimlessly around or sitting in wheelchairs alone, some drooling, all unkempt. There was no TV on the woman's side, no games to play, no music...nothing, just sit there and watch fights or color with crayons in Pre-K type coloring books. Of course you couldn't bring a cell phone or iPad (which is understandable) and had to go to the nurses station to use their phone, give them a phone number to dial and they would pass you the phone on a wire through a small hole in the plexiglass. They never cleaned, wiped or sanitized the phone receiver between patients calls. It disgusted me to touch it and put it near my mouth but I had no choice if I wanted to call my husband. I changed the diapers and pants for two of my "new" older friends who had soiled themselves (and I'm 72) I put my clean underwear and legging on them both, on two different days. The floors in the entire facility were filthy with sticky dried urine and who knows what else, I NEVER saw them wash the floors or wipe down the tables before or after meals. I had to check the plastic chairs before I sat because often they would have "some kind" of fluid in them...pee? There was no hand sanitizer nor cups to get a drink of water from the sink. The men and woman (about 45 patients)were mixed together in one big group area and I saw 4 different schizophrenic women strip naked. One woman...one of the frequent strippers (Janet E.) was constantly hanging on and stroking the men's hair and faces. It was obvious that these poor men were unwelcoming to her advances. She hated the women, screaming and cursing into their faces and sometimes hitting them. There were no cups or drinking water available 90% of the time. Occasionally they would put a small stack of Styrofoam cups on the counter but they disappeared quickly. The only fluids they gave us was a half filled styrofoam cup of juice or tea, or a small carton of milk with your meals. Not nearly enough fluids to sustain a human. They came into our rooms in the morning at FIVE AM yelling "Get up...get up". Breakfast wasn't until 8 am. They wanted us out of the rooms so they could come in to empty trash and make the beds also checking our private things to see if there was anything we shouldn't have. She took my body/hair wash, my deodorant, hand lotion and comb. Luckily I had hidden my tooth paste and tooth brush. I did get them back after making a fuss. I was constantly seeing people in wheelchairs calling out for help to be taken to the rest room, many already sitting in pooped and peed diapers, hence the constant disgusting smell of the place. One woman even pulled down her pants and pooped on the floor in the middle of the group room. There was no hand sanitizer anywhere. My roommate waited 5 days for a toothbrush and toothpaste. Finally, I asked my husband to bring some for her when he visited. I saw a tech staffer shove a 80 year old woman with Alzheimer's...then grab away a roll of paper towels she was holding. When you would ask for anything the usually said "Go sit down" or "Go ask her" (another tech) several times I had to ask for my meds because they forgot about me twice, even after I asked. All of the staff were Jamaicans with heavy accents and hard to understand, not being racist here, just a fact. Twice I changed the diaper/underwear and pants on two older ladies than me (I'm 72) who had soiled themselves and could not get staff help. I gave them my own personal clothes to keep. On my second to last night I had tiny red bug bites all over my lower chest and abdomen. Yes, I had become a host for bed bugs. Well today I finally was released after 10 long horrible days and sleepless nights, I am exhausted...I was there for depression and anxiety which got no better there. I talked to Laura H, a Physicians Assistant 3 times and NEVER SAW A DOCTOR!!! When I signed out I was informed that I owed them a  $350 co-pay, I said "send me a bill"... BEWARE...THIS HELLHOLE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN. read more

My son was admitted, and I took him out early because he felt unsafe. On top of that, he had his personal item stolen, and when I called to have them help with the issue, they only gave me the run around. It's been over 2 months, and I'm still waiting for results. I would not recommend this place for help because the employees steal, and they don't seem like they care about the youth that's entrusted to them. read more

The Abilene location has deteriorated substantially. My husband beat me up before I went in and I took pictures in the mirror of my bruises . They only had a male and a female on duty so I had to strip naked in front of him and her and they lied and said I had no bruises. They kept giving me pills I have had an allergic reaction to before but told me I couldn't refuse the medicine if I wanted to get out so I took it. On one I started foaming at the mouth and drooling all over myself and the other one made me have uncontrollable body movements and my Roomate had to tell them to help me because they don't check the bedrooms every fifteen minutes or at all at night. It took a shot of thorzine to stop the movements and knock me out. They had a gigantic 7 foot patient who would just walk into women's rooms and try and lay down on them. Their activities director was over Noah project but got fired for letting peoples abusers in the facility and one of them shot off a gun outside his wives window. That was her third job in three years consistently demoted. I was severely constipated for five days and cramping badly but they wouldn't give me anything for it. I got athletes foot from the shower and they called in a specialist and charged 500 dollars when I had anti fungal cream in my medicine bag. When my bowels finally moved they wouldn't let me into the bathroom after asking repeatedly so I had to sit on the floor and soil myself . It was a huge mess. I was in there 20 days and never saw a psych doctor at all. The food was mostly inedible and because mine had to be low salt they placed my plate in a warmer that turned it brown and hard. Several of the night staff talked about being satanists . People stole my clothing and shoes and they had no washing machine . I had a camisole with a bra in it but I couldn't wear it so I went braless for twenty days and people constantly made fun of me. It was like human trafficking for the mentally ill. Severe trauma . nightmares about having to go back there to this day. Oceans employees people fresh off the boat from other countries and people who have prior violent criminal records. I was 60. I should have been placed in the geriatric unit . I wasn't violent . Instead they dumped me in with people in their thirties and below coming off illegal drugs who were violent. You want to be treated like an animal with no brain or rights or dignity go to Oceans Abilene. read more

Well. My wife found an amazing doctor at this facility but the communication is awful here and the scheduling of doctors and aftercare are not so great. I'm grateful my wife met the best doctor she's ever seen. #traumatherapy read more

NEVER consider taking your loved ones or yourself to this horrible place. I was admitted in October of 2022 for 14 days, and my experience was absolutely horrendous. This place nearly killed me. I was put on so much serotonin medication that when I left this shit stain of a facility, I had involuntary twitches and a stuttering problem. I left in a worse state than when I was admitted. Not only did a staff member become ANGRY with me because I wasn't showing signs of improvement, but the doctor who visited with me regularly wasn't even the same person who prescribed me medications. I was later told that they were just going down a list of drugs to 'see what worked'. Not once did they consider how my current medications would clash with the new ones they put me on. Their carelessness almost cost me my LIFE. If I could give this sorry excuse of a hospital 0 stars, I would. I was thirteen. Thirteen and being treated like this. I was admitted for suicidal and homicidal ideation along with hallucinations, delusions, and voices in my head. I had an extremely difficult time sleeping, and on most nights, I would lay awake for hours. To resolve this, I was given Trazadone. That was a huge mistake. I had constant headaches and muscle aches. I was paranoid and had even more memory problems than before. Because this medication was paired with other serotonin medications, I received serotonin shock. It was horrifying. This place did not help me AT ALL. One night, I was lying under the thin blanket I was provided with. I had my hands over my ears, and I was sobbing silently. There were what sounded like hundreds of overlapping voices whispering horrible things to me. It eventually became too much for me, and I started to scream. Not one nurse came into my dorm to check on me. At the time, I did not have a roommate. The only people that came to check if I was okay were the two older girls in the room next to mine. They were the ones that comforted me. When I calmed down, they found a nurse outside the dorm and brought her to me. I was then taken to the medication area and was given my Abilify pill early, and then sent back to bed. Next up, the living conditions. The beds were EXTREMELY uncomfortable, and the hard mattress smelled very odd. There were two bathrooms in the girl's adolescent dorm area. Only one shower worked as intended. The other shower only let out STEAMING hot water. For my first shower in this place, I used this shower straight from hell unknowingly, and when I turned on the water, I got boiling hot liquid shot right in my face. Every day, I got to call my family for 7 minutes twice. One time at noon and another time at night. 14 minutes. Fourteen fucking minutes. That's all the time that I have to speak with my mother daily. When I asked a nurse why we had such little time, she said it was because there was only a certain amount of phones in the facility, and they had to rotate the phones through each wing. If we were lucky and had a particular nurse tech with us that day, we would get 10 minutes instead of 7. I was grateful for her. 3 more minutes of speaking to my mother meant a lot to me. Personally, I think this place should be SHUT DOWN. Never will I ever recommend this hellhole to anyone, nor will I ever speak positively about it. read more

I wanna start by saying that in my experience, most all of the staff inside were very nice and genuinely cared about the people they were there to help. Despite the good intentions from many of the nurses, the leadership was beyond disappointing. I was admitted to inpatient care, being told that I could just stay for a few days to get my mental health back in order. They told me that whenever I wanted to leave, I could sign a form and they'd release me later that day. So I went in and after a few days, I was ready to leave. I asked for the form to allow me to leave, signed it, and was told that I could leave the next day. That bothered me because I was told I could leave the day I was ready but I sucked it up. The next day rolled around and I was told I'd have to talk with a couple people so they could decide whether I was fit to leave. That's when I was introduced to Kirk/Kurt (I still don't remember which of those was his name), a guy who apparently ran the place. He asked me what I was there for (suicidal ideations) and then asked what I planned on doing once I left. I told him I planned on getting a job, quitting drinking, and starting to look for an apartment to move into so I could move on from living with my parents. The conversation felt like it was going great. That was, until I told him my plans for him to respond "Yeah, this seems like way too much for you. I don't think you realize how hard it is to do all of that all at once. I can't let you leave." I knew I was ready to leave so I persisted, bringing up the promise of getting to leave when I was ready. He told me that if I really wanted to go through with the form to leave, I'd have to go against Ocean's in court to prove that I was actually fit to leave. I wasn't the only one who had problems with him, as everyone I vented to also had negative opinions of him. Another thing I had a problem with was the food there. Not only is the food generally terrible, I was vegetarian which made things many times worse. They had no idea how to respond to a vegetarian diet so every meal was either salad or a veggie burger that was gray (and basically inedible). You're meant to eat on a schedule which can make you very hungry when it's not time to eat which wouldn't be such a problem if you were allowed to keep leftover snacks but the staff confiscates anything like that. I had to hide as much food as I could just to deal with that. So if you like empty promises, being threatened with court, and hunger then this is the place for you. Shoutout to Melissa and Hope, by the way. There were multiple other staff members that made me feel hopeful and comforted but these two remain in my mind the most. To the staff that genuinely helped and care for the patients, please don't let the leadership deter you. You're doing great things for people in need. You absolutely need to have your leadership replaced though. I would heavily recommend pushing for that. read more

This place needs to be shut down and most of the staff needs to be in prison. I was assaulted by a male CNA here and injured. When I told the staff I needed to go to the hospital they told me to shut up and leave them alone. A female nurse several days later got mad at me, told me that she was discharging me early. I told her I had no money, nowhere to go, I didn't live in Abilene and it's freezing cold outside. She said that she didn't care and sent me out in the freezing cold at 11:00 pm. As far as I know she still has her license and could possibly still be working at Ocean's Abilene, so this place should be avoided! read more
