On the menu it was listed for 7.50 euros for an order. The manager explained that since they were making a new paella for us, we would have to pay for the large pan, which is designed for 4. We agreed to pay the price for 4 paellas instead of 3, or 30 euros. When the bill arrived, the paella was listed at 50 euros. I noticed that right away and questioned the manager. She argued that she had told us our paella would cost more. We reminded her of what she'd told us, turned the bill over and showed her the math as I wrote it out. She disagreed with math. 7.5 x 4 = 30 according to us. She again replied that it amounted to 50. I asked for the formerly friendly owner to resolve our dispute. He refused to come speak to us. He just sat there with his fat self and pathetic attempt at a pony-tail devouring a cheeseburger from some other establishment and managed to intone, "Talk to her, she's the manager". We refused to pay the jacked up charge. She argued. We showed her the math, over and over. Finally she relented and told us to pay what we thought it was worth. We paid exactly what the menu said our costs would be. We tipped some very small change just to get it out of our pockets and because the beer was as cold as the experience. Interestingly, The Lounge has a menu, but not a kitchen. When we ordered our paella, they called down the street to a restaurant and placed the order. We watched the sad pony-tailed, fat owner waddle down the street, get the paella, bring it back into The Lounge, and present it like it was his own creation. Seems his menu is just a big fat lie. They cook nothing and try to charge almost twice as much as the place that actually cooked the paella. They are liars who try to prey on tourists. Avoid at all costs.

They also have an on-site parking garage (priced around 18E a night). The staff was friendly, helpful, and provided great recommendations. The rooms were large, luxurious, and very comfortable. The location was great for a beach getaway as you open right up to a stunning fountain as you head to the beach. There are a number of restaurants all within walking distance and many of the main stops are a quick taxi or drive away. Las Arenas can be expensive, but it is certainly worthwhile in the offseason (we went in early October), where you can still get beach and pool weather, the property is less crowded, and prices are a steal!

Arriving without a reservation on a Saturday, we were seated without a wait; service was welcoming, quick, and very friendly. Tip: The starter we chose (with advice from our server) was the steamed mussels. As our server had said, we found that a single portion was more than enough for two to share. We also enjoyed several cocktails with our meal that day; my favorite by far was the Pumpkin amuse - delicious! For our main, we shared the fillet of ray (tronco rodaballo). This dish was beautiful to look at, with a taste profile that bordered on distilled awesomeness :-) Bottom line: Fabulous views, excellent service, and wonderful food made our experience here one that I look forward to repeating. While the prices for bread, wine, and coffee were a bit on the high side, the overall cost of our meal was more than reasonable given the quality of the food and the service.

According to the…read moreinformation on their website, €15 would be refunded after leaving when the towels were returned. So, essentially, it was supposed to be a kind of deposit. After barely two hours, it suddenly started pouring with rain -- something, of course, that nobody could have predicted. The large number of people who were there all rushed to the restaurant to take shelter. It was very chaotic, and it took quite a while before we were offered a table. At first, I could understand the situation, but apparently it was very difficult to figure out which table to give us. Keep in mind that the restaurant wasn't even half full. We then patiently waited for someone to take our order. Again, this took quite some time, but given the chaos, I was still willing to understand. Our food arrived fairly quickly, followed shortly afterwards by the bill -- even though we had not asked for it. When I asked whether this meant we were expected to leave, I was literally told: "If you're not eating or drinking anything else, yes." Our drinks weren't even finished, and I had literally just put my knife and fork down after finishing my meal. We were simply told to leave and sent out into the pouring rain. I honestly cannot accept this. This is not how you treat paying customers. When you pay this kind of price, you expect at least some friendliness, hospitality and decent service. And then, when we went outside, we were also told that the €15 towel deposit would not be refunded after all. This was clearly stated differently in the information we had found online. So the information provided on their website is misleading. In the end, it turned out to be a very expensive day. Of course, we cannot blame the beach club for the rain -- that is something nobody can control. But the way we were treated afterwards was completely unacceptable. Needless to say, they will not be seeing us again.
