It was more for dad, mom had plenty of things she didn't like about the institution of the Catholic church. But even she would have teared up over the service. Father also made sure that the reception after had specific foods dad requested (because of mom)- lumpia & pancet. And all sorts of other foods- Mac-n-cheese, meatballs, sandwiches, chicken... Desserts. They even indulged us O'Neil's & let us bring in libations to toast to mom. She's Scottish- so scotch-whiskey it was. We had about 50 partake in mass and/or the reception. The ladies working the kitchen & setting up & cleaning up for the reception (volunteers) were amazing. I thank all of the church for the comfort you provided in this time of grief. And- my other half will be (hopefully) joining dad for future mass.

It's been here for over 50 years. The church keeps around 150 - 200 people each Sunday. The congregation is close and it's nice to have that family feeling that is sometimes lost in the huge mega church world we live in today. The church is just 5 minutes up the road from NS Mayport and about 45 minutes from NAS Jax.

The Pastor, Tom Bary and Staff have gone above and beyond to bring Neptune out of the realm of the old stereotypical Southern Baptist Church into a modern 21st century church whose emphasis is on loving Jesus and loving people. The first person who greeted my wife and I some nine years ago was a gentleman by the name of Nels Gyland. I knew nothing about him, but he not only greeted my family with a warm smile, but remembered us when we came back the next week. What I came to find out is that the Gyland Family was salt of the Earth and three generations of Gylands have attended Neptune for a long time. While I have been deeply involved in The Life Groups (Sunday School) Classes, The Upward Sports, The Annual King of the Hill Surf and Fishing competitions and many other activities including the Wee School for my youngest son, I just want to emphasize this church is a model for allowing its members to be active. If you need your batteries recharged, or are simply looking for a church home or place to fellowship with other believers, come by and check us out some Sunday or Wednesday evening.
