So reading all positive reviews, I decided to give Oconnell Cuts a shot. Like many have said, Ryan does seem like a nice guy. The reason for 1 star is I had just finished showing Ryan a picture of the cut I wanted, nothing fancy, high fade. I explained to Ryan how I wanted my hair to be cut. Ryan nodded that he acknowledged. Puts the clippers on my head and in the 2nd pass, completely butchers my hair. Ryan apologized and took responsibility that it was his mistake. The issue I have was not so much that the bad haircut (I mean it was bad) but it was that after it was said and done, Ryan still charged me. C'mon Ryan, that's just poor customer service. It was your mistake. Eat the cost. How can you charge a client for your mistake? You don't go into a bakery to order a birthday cake for your kid. Then go back to pick up the cake that reads sorry for your loss and still expect to pay for it. Get it right bro. read more

I was looking for a barber in the area for a last minute clean up for my son. Usually I'd do it myself but I've been busy with work and had no time before rushing to a wedding in the Ventura County area this past weekend. I looked on yelp for local barbers and saw O'Connell Cuts was open in Newbury Park / Thousand Oaks area. It was a long shot but he answered my text and was able to fit my son right in. The business is located in a small home studio. There's plenty of parking and it was very clean. Ryan enforces all covid restrictions (masks, social distancing, and sanitizing). He gave my son a great clean up and thank God my son felt the same. He's picky and getting him to go along with this was a task but Ryan made it happen. I'd definitely refer him. I came here for a haircut for the first time suspicious of the place during covid. It turns out it felt so safe and comfortable while everything was sanitized and my barber was super friendly. I usually don't like doing this outside because of covid but this really made me change my mind. The setup was very professional and was not hot at all even though it was 88 outside. This place is definitely the place you want to go for a quality cut. My barber really took the time to make sure he was doing what I wanted. Super friendly and nice.
