PLEASE READ!!!! i went in TWICE first day 02/19/2022 everyone was so nice,process takes around 1-2 hours ur 1st time fast forward to screening and physical,im not sure of her name but she was very nice & friendly !! Jasmine did my screening and she was also very nice !! Day 2 : 02/21/2022 around 3:30 pm I decided to Give it a 2nd go ,eating well and staying hydrated everything was quick and easy! Got straight over to the chair to get hooked up and Alexis was there again to help me ! She got me setup and i was good to go!! I was doing great comfy and all! But here's the kicker, i was MORE THAN 98% done with my donation when I started to feel dizzy,confused blurry vision and a nasty feeling, i told them and they immediately came To my side with ice packs and this nice girl also came over to fan me i never got her name but i wish i could say thankyou for being there for me, she asked me if i was feeling nauseous and for a short time i wasn't then ,the unthinkable happened, up came my food (gross ik), the girl helping me was so quick to get the trashcan,all i kept saying was im so sorry and im so embarrassed, she comforted me Saying not to be embarrassed and it was okay,after that whole episode they took me Off the machine and Nate came to check my Vitals,give me a gatorade and make sure i was okay, the last girl was the one who bandage my arm dont know her name Either but she was also a sweetie, if yall ever see this Thank you everyone who was there both days for helping me and making sure i was okay you guys are super professional and a bunch of sweet hearts I appreciate every single one of u more than you know read more

l've been to the same Virginia Beach (Chimney Hill) location 3 times. The first time I was deferred rightfully so. Second time, I was told they were short staffed and to come back Monday at 9 am. I was there for FOUR hours on that Monday and they still couldn't tell me if I could donate plasma. They have to check with a doctor about a very common injection I received for osteoarthritis. No one is available at the front desk or elsewhere to answer any questions or guide people when they come in and waiting 4 hours is ABSURD! I will not be going back. Very unprofessional! read more

Ever since the recent changes, the quality of service has declined dramatically. Wait times have become unreasonably long, the restrooms are consistently dirty, and many areas appear to be poorly maintained or in need of repair. The location also seems to be chronically understaffed, creating unnecessary delays and a frustrating experience for both customers and donors. What is most disappointing is that these problems have become the norm rather than the exception. Reduced hours may have been intended to improve operations, but from a customer's perspective, the opposite has happened. The facility is less efficient, less welcoming, and far less organized than it once was. Many people choose to support this organization because they believe in its mission and want to help the community. Those supporters deserve a clean, well-maintained facility and a level of service that reflects that mission. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience, and significant improvements are needed. read more

The staff acts like your in a county jail where people are looked down on as if they have done something demeaning, It was humiliating. The place seems unorganized and dirty. I could go on and on about this county jail like atmosphere I've never been anyplace voluntarily that is so demeaning. This company ought to feel bad. Just because people need a little money for whatever reason and are supplying a vital medical service they should be respected as individuals not like beggars I had to ask the tech to clean the blood pressure cuff since she used it on several people before me. She was visibly upset. The health department should be called. Since I told her I wanted the blood pressure cuff cleaned, once she took my temperature it was 99.6. She said her cutoff was 99.5 and didn't offer to take it again of course. I was really glad that happened because I was scared at the thought of them going into my vein. Waste of time but although I wasted my time, turned out I dodged a bullet. the star rating but -1 which is about right. I couldn't change the office from Virginia Beach. Welp. Another day. Another Octapharma gaff. We have a PACKED house inside with masses of people in the waiting area and in the screening area at noon. And what do I walk up to. 3 of the phlebotomists outside smoking. I say something as soon as I get in and one of the staff said "no talking about it" like. Come on. I can understand a smoke break, but 3 people at once when it's busy? Who is running this place? Who is letting them do this? Some leadership or personnel change needs to happen. It seems like every day I come in here, no matter the time no matter the day. It's always staff not taking their jobs seriously. And a wait time that's longer than the actual donation time. Just finished my second donation. I made sure to tell multiple people the first day, that I have needle phobias. I always get dizzy for about 5 minutes or so. The lady putting the needle in even told me that it's a visceral response and it's normal. Well today a different lady, asst manager or something, asked me how I was doing and stupid me, I answered honestly and said "dizzy like always." I explained the visceral reaction and all. This all happened and I wasn't even at 1% donated yet. After I was done 45 minutes, then she takes me aside and basically tells me I'm being permanently deferred due to "safety issues." They said they were concerned that I can't tell the difference between a headache and feeling dizzy and I could pass out while donating. Obviously they weren't *that* concerned because they let me do the entire donation instead of stopping it at the beginning. I talked to the manager on site, but the center's doctor made the decision, based only on what the asst manager told him/her, *without even seeing or talking to me!* Even offering to see my pcp and get a letter, they didn't give a damn. I am pissed not only because I feel used and treated like a child, but because I'd already taken the survey to review them and had given them the highest ratings. read more

Here's why you have to stop donating at Octapharma plasma. On November 12th of 2021. The company instituted a new donor withdrawal requirement. Instead of donating the usual amount. They are now taking more plasma. In other words, I generally donate 800ML's of plasma per sitting. I learned, they are now taking an additional 190ML's. This makes the combined withdrawal 990ML's. This is nothing short of greed. This is completely unsafe. They take plasma to use as proteins. These proteins are needed for Amino acids. Amino acids are vital for Metabolic reactions in the body. Let's back up even before that. To replace any fluid loss. The heart and kidneys have to work that much HARDER to replenish this volume loss. If you have an UNDIAGNOSED heart condition. This will compound your Cardiac condition. To what extent? I'm don't know. Everyone is different. ALL, I'M SAYING IS STOP DONATING AT OCTAPHARMA PLASMA. They try to sell you on saving lives. My question to you is. Who will save your life because of this? I will never go back there. IT'S NOT SAFE. It's day 2 for me POST donation. I've rehydrated, eat healthy and workout. Was turned away from being able to donate Wednesday morning with the explanation that a blood sample taken from me two weeks earlier and shipped out for testing...was delayed due to bad weather. Two days later, I called first to see about that delayed blood sample and was told that it got lost and I would have to come give another blood sample and wait for it to be re-sent and tested. What a inconvenience considering that I have been donating at that location on and off for a few years. There must be enough plasma to go around these days. read more

Hire more tech's may be or even post how long the wait is at the front entrance bases on the number of techs they have. There should be some kind of process improvement going on. When you go in as a new donor, you're forced into watching a video that is maybe 15 minutes long, though feels like an eternity. Then you're also required to read a binder that literally says everything the video says. They get all your info. You "sign in" and do a pre-test type thing where they get your weight, blood pressure, and do a finger prick to check for hydration levels as well as iron levels. Then you wait again, for another 20ish minutes, to have a physical where they talk to you like you're stupid. I was unable to donate due to a "new" medication that I am on. I can come back when I've been on this medication for four months. That's fine. I'm not going to fault them on that. Where the issue is is that when I come back in four months, I have to do all of the stuff over again. The video, the binder, the check in... I spent 2 hours for all of this for her to tell me within 5 minutes of the physical that I couldn't donate and that I have to do all of this again. They should do the physical first. Do anything that could "disqualify you" before they prick you with a needle. Such a disappointment. I'd definitely recommend a different donation place. read more

Upon walking in this business there's no one who greets their customers. This location is usually understaff and it lacks consideration for their customers time. This location, doesn't take the time to acknowledge waiting time , nor address their customers in timely fashion during their wait. Nothing is done effectively and efficiently!! This must change !! Just because people use this service as a primary or second source of income doesn't mean they should be treated with service expectations less than Walmart's. read more

Every single time I come in here the screening line Greta worse. The number of screeners always depletes leaving one screen for a line of 5-7 people. The that screen is always always someone who is freshly trained and barley know what they doing. So the wait time in the line is usually bout 20-30 mins. Then whn u get to the back u sit for another r 20-40 mins cuz they got 2 actual tech and 1 disconnectir. It's ridiculous and shud b looked nto by corporate. There has to b a better way to get the lines moving and the donors n and out n a more timely manner. read more

I've been a plasma donor for about just years at this location. I can't comment on other locations but I hope they would be equally accommodating as the Chimney Hill site. I've donated blood and platelets over many years but eventually decided I deserved more compensation. I will not discuss the process (there are needles, you know that) but I'll say there are some very friendly and skilled phlebotomist on site. You can ask for your favorite if needed. It's clean. The other thing you may worry about-just like going to a movie theater you risk having your atmosphere disrupted by some nuts that can't shut up or act very annoying. After two years I can only say I was only annoyed twice-so its just like going to a movie theater. Oh yeah, there are plenty of flat screen tvs to watch while you donate. Free WiFi too. People from our community, different professions, and all walks of life make a difference at Chimney Hill. COME ON, WHAT ARE WAITING FOR. read more

This place was a mess from start to finish of my families visit. The staff did not abide by their own policies and everything had to be repeated multiple times so the staff felt they knew what they were talking about. My sons blood donor technician told him she was an avid drinker and accused my son of being an alcoholic, which he is not, he does have some private medical conditions he did not feel comfortable talking about in a public setting and the technician kept on harassing him. Even before all that my son wasn't given the option to have a male do his physical, he said a middle age woman touched him and he did not like how she openly laughed about his body type and advised him to be in better shape before donating. read more

Chimney Hill Octapharma has great phlebotomists, is clean, people are friendly. I can't compare their compensation to other places, but they usually have frequent donor rewards. My biggest complaint is that there is usually a long line, and have only one or two staff doing the initial screening process. I've waited in line for up to an hour just for the prescreening. The only upside to that is that by the time I'm through that process, they can take me back almost immediately. To be perfectly honest, I'm writing this review today because I need to go there this evening and I can get an Express Pass to skip the line by leaving a review on Yelp. read more

One thing that I think they could change is they need more screeners at busier times to keep the flow going from the front to the back. I've had both good and bad experiences here. The wait line is typically shorter when you go earlier in the day. Going anytime past 4-5 you can expect to wait in line for over an hour. They usually do fine with the needle part but the last two times I've had issues with my blood pumping correctly due to an issue with where the needle was placed. I will say I have smaller veins but the staff shouldn't put it in my arm if they aren't sure if it will go in right. The needle had to be adjusted when I went 2 times ago and it worked after that but the last time I went they had 2 different people adjust the needle in my arm over 4 times which obviously isn't comfortable for me. They ended up switching the needle to my other arm which worked fine, but I woke up with a large bruise on my first arm from them trying to move it around so much. Decent pay and they are all friendly, but it gives me anxiety when they're almost talking to me as if they don't know what they're doing. read more
