We added Steve as our officiant through Wedgewood. We got to see him in action 6 months before our wedding at my cousins wedding so we already knew we liked his style. We connected with Steve a few months before the wedding and he ran through the ceremony with us and let us pick the lines he would say, so it was very tailored to our liking. We used officially yours by suggestion of Wedgewood. Our ceremony was officiated by the owner and he is also who we met with in our acquaintance/detailed meeting. From the first interaction my now husband and I got strange vibes but also were under the impression that we would be "matched" up with someone who would mesh well with us. He had a lot of opinion on how OUR day should look. There were things we were told we could not have ( a collective "we do" since the brides late father would not be presenting the bride but allowing her family to be that support). He'd ask objective questions then give us what he believes to be the proper answer. I think to sum it up he functions in a capacity as if these weddings are for people to come and see the officiant when it is absolutely and completely about the bride, groom and their union and what they would like that to look like. We had been assure by Wedgewood that we would speak to the officiant the week of when we asked if we should be reaching out to know who would be marrying us and to iron out last minute details--we spoke to him 45 mins prior to the ceremony separately. He and I even had a little exchange to where I had to remind him to address me as I prefer since it is indeed my wedding not his. One of his requests were for us to face him first because "how would you feel if you came to marry a couple in front of 60 people and no one looks at you" Sir respectfully not a person there came for you! His opening remarks were quite lengthy. We had rehearsal the day prior where we were given preferred standing placement and he kept adjusting us which makes for awkward constant shifting during the active ceremony. I gave two stars because if there are actually other officiants this could be a great service so holding out hope, but if he's a one man show I'd say check it out and follow your gut! read more

I attended a wedding officiated by Steve and was honestly shocked by what came out of his mouth. He interjected misogynist jokes every other line, asking the groom if he was sure, if he was there of his own free will, and if he wanted to turn back on multiple occasions. More than just "ball and chain" boomer humor, it was offensive and felt like a personal attack on the couple. I felt immediately for the couple, and the mood in the room was heavy. Immediately following the ceremony, multiple guests commented about the tone. The consensus was that he was a terrible officiant with a weird vendetta, and while we all did our best to focus on the parts that went well, it left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Married Dec 2024 in San Francisco - When everyone walks up to you after the wedding and says "where did you find your officiant? He was amazing!" or "Was your officiant a family friend?" you just know you had the right officiant. To answer the question - was he a family friend - no he was not. He was contracted as part of our venue package (but he owns his own business). When he first set up a 90-minute call with me and my now-husband, we both thought that was kinda crazy. My first thought was "what could we possibly talk about for an hour and a half". But OMG, we were never so wrong. He has a whole prep process that he walks couples through where he asks questions like how religious do you want the ceremony to be on a scale from 1-10 and it just goes on from there. It's like each answer to a question directed him to his next question and when we're done, he has our entire ceremony "mapped out". I also called him back privately (after our initial call) to add a surprise for my husband into our ceremony. My now-hubby had lost his best friend two years before we were married. Had he still be alive, he'd have been in our wedding party. He was like a brother to me and my husband. Not having him there was really hard and so I asked his daughter to represent her father with a reading during the ceremony but wanted it to be a surprise. Steve was great at helping me keep it secret and weaving it into the ceremony seamlessly. There was not a dry eye in the house when she read her poem that she read to both of us. With that said, Steve's entire process is how he truly gets to know us so that when we are "literally" standing at the altar, he comes across as our family-friend who is officiating our wedding and not a hired vendor who barely knows us. He's also very comfortable and personable in front of all the guests and knows when to tell everyone to stand or sit, when to step aside for the kiss, when to cue the bride and groom and our wedding party - he even knows how much humor to use in the ceremony. Steve was my officiant during my wedding in 2019. I originally was going to let my frustrations go but every time I talk to friends or family about my ceremony, even two years later, he is brought up for being memorable, in a bad way. There were some red flags during the planning process. He was hard to get a hold of, wouldn't go over the ceremony script with me saying it would be a "surprise." Even after I told him I didn't want to be surprised, he added some content that was unacceptable and rude. My wedding guests have referred to the ceremony as being sexist. He even asked my husband if he had a sense of humor when I was walking down the aisle hinting that he was about to say something not appropriate. My only regret at my wedding was hiring him. Which is sad sense he was such an important aspect. I don't know how he has so many great reviews. I would never recommend to hire him. read more

We had actually done the ceremony at the courthouse already so we technically didn't need an officiant for the wedding, but we knew we had to hire Steve when we met him. We met with Steve again about 2 weeks before the wedding to go through the ceremony we had chosen. i was freaking out about every single thing at that point but I felt so much calmer after taking to him. On the wedding day, Steve engaged all our guests into this cheerful, fun but heartfelt ceremony. Everyone was laughing and crying and just having a blast at the ceremony. He also inserted a lot of Star Wars references that we did not expect (he did ask for permission to put in some fun stuff before hand) and that just took the ceremony over the notch. So many guests have told us that was the best ceremony they have ever attended! and I should mention half of our guests were from Japan who did not speak very good English! Steve was our favorite vendor from the our wedding venue's extravaganza (an annual wedding fair that showcases their preferred vendors). Meet him in person and you will understand why. We didn't originally purchase "Officiant Services" in our wedding package, but we added it to our package after meeting Steve. He went above and beyond with creating our custom "Unity Ceremony" reading. He went as far as learning how to say certain phrases in Chinese to perfect the reading. He did research to understand our culture and was sensitive to our customs. We originally wanted to ask a friend to marry us, but there is actually a lot that goes into the ceremony. It is not simply just reading a passage in front of your guests--the paperwork, formalities, etc are all things that you should consider. People were talking about the food, the flowers, and the OFFICIANT! Wedding guests usually don't talk about the officiant, but Steve was charismatic and engaging. He kept people entertained and interested. A year later, I emailed him about how to change my last name.
