Potes is a pretty and quaint little mountain village on the side of a hill by the Rio Deva, with cobbled streets, a picturesque stone bridge over the River, and a few noble buildings. The most striking is the the Torre del Infantado, which not only offers killer scenic views, but is a nice museum inside. Potes is a good base of operations for the nearby Picos de Europa. - West to Fuente De, up the Cable Car, and into the heights of the Picos de Europa.
- Just outside of Town to the Santo Toribio de Liébana Monastery.
- Toward Panes through the La Hermida Gorge.
There nothing between Panes and Potes except the road and the stream alongside, no room for any towns or even houses. So the expression in Spanish, when you want to convey the meaning that something is empty or desolate, you say "como entre Panes y Potes" (like between Panes and Potes). read more
