The quality of our wedding clip is incredible. My husband always says that his favorite keepsake is the 7 minute video that we had done of our wedding by Ohana Films. Two minor complaints: The song used in our video... personally, it felt like a sad song. Not quite sure why it was selected. Secondly, we ordered a full version of our wedding and when downloaded, it wasn't one clip, it was 3 different clips. Married In March 2020. Kent and Darlene were nothing short of incredible. It took us a while to find a cinematographer for our wedding but knew instantly they were the right choice the minute we saw their work on YouTube. My wife and I did not want any coordination and to just enjoy our day as we pleased. This is the exact style Ohana films operates, they are so hands off we barely noticed they were there, but yet, they captured every moment. If you are looking for a video that feels organic and unplanned then they are right for you. With other videographers you almost get the feeling that a lot of things were forced. They are experienced and the attention to detail is impeccable. They have two shooters and are well coordinated. They hit multiple angles and multiple scenes of my wife and I when we were separated. We hired them for 8 hours at the Olowalu plantation house. They have a lot of experience there so it's like clock work, they already knew what to do. Their price is also on par with competitors so their price is very reasonable. I don't think I need to say much more, watch one of their videos and let their work speak for themselves. I booked Darlene and Kent of Ohana Films for our June 30, 2018 wedding because they are the absolute best in the industry. In the Hawaiian Islands, their reputation precedes them as a sweet husband and wife team who have an artistic eye and incredible talent for videography and cinematography. Their website reads, "We approach every wedding video with a filmmaker's sensibility and treat each film as a work of art. Capturing genuine moments, both big and small, is very important to us. We are not going to ask you to fake any moments or perform in any way." This comes across in their authentic documentary-style films, which are each unique, creative, and magical. After perusing their website it is easy to see why Ohana's booking calendar often fills up a year in advance. Besides all this, Kent and Darlene are two of the most approachable, kind, and cool people I know. They kept in contact with me during my entire wedding-planning process and were so helpful with wedding advice (because, ya know, they have been to a few weddings ;-). I also loved to keep in touch about the small-kine animal rescue operation they have going on at their house (lol) and the adventures of Nana, Pumpkin, Daisy, Miso, and the one-eared Cementy. (Seriously, D&K are angels!) On our wedding day, as promised, all we had to do was relax and enjoy. I would give a 10-star rating out of 5 if possible. They had lovely personalities and were really nice to talk to. They gave us lots of good suggestions before and on our wedding day. Before my hair stylist put on the flowers, Darlene double checked and suggested which side it should be for better pictures. And Kent helped my husband put on the cuff link ( which he didn't have to) . They also suggested what pictures could be captured by our photographer. They told us, waves merged from two different directions at the place we got married. That's why many people chose this place to get married ( I didn't know this until our wedding date!). We didn't have to pose for the video so it was so early and nice working with them. We felt so lucky that they were part of our wedding. I never expected these much from my videographers. They were more than that. They were like wedding advisors and good friends. 3 months later, we got the video. It turned out to be exactly what I want. Having them as part of my wedding was the best decision. I loved the moments when I saw the smiles and happiness in the video. We also got a very lovey box and USB drive with wedding highlight. https://vimeo.com/ohanafilms Wow -- where to begin. We were referred to Kent and Darlene (Ohana Films) by Anna Kim and our wedding planner Fay Hovey (Aloha Maui Weddings). From our first time meeting, we were immediately drawn to their warm personalities, professional demeanor, and immediate openness and kindness. In fact, we had seen our cake vendor just before them and were so enamored (and overly full from many, many tastings) that we gave them a cupcake. What? Giving away sweets? Yeah, exactly. Pre-ceremony: they were very easy to talk to and discuss the plan for the ceremony/reception. At our first meeting, I brought up the idea of a drone, not only for the filming but also to have *deliver our rings*. Kent looked genuinely concerned (safety first; I appreciated this) but ultimately was very willing to practice and incorporate it into the ceremony. Incidentally, he came up with the fantastic idea of tying them up in such a way that you could see the rings in the shot from the drone itself. Brilliant! In addition, I had a bit of a secret wedding ukulele walking-down-the-aisle surprise for my wife, and they were such great secret-keepers as we set this up. From a professional standpoint, they gave us their quote/packages and were absolutely transparent about them from the get go. Zero issues there. During the ceremony: this is where they in particular shined! First off, Kent even came to the rehearsal dinner to practice the drone landing by the water, which was completely above and beyond. On the wedding day, as soon as we arrived for prep before the ceremony, they were there and shooting. Kent came by to secretly mic me for the ukulele flashmob surprise (see photos) and even brought gaffers tape and a strap so I could secure the recording device. Fantastic! Everything went perfectly with the ceremony participation as well: recording was flawless and the drone delivered the rings exactly as planned! I'll also add that I had no idea how absolutely *critical* video was going to be to our memory of the event. There were little things that I'd forgotten or not seen (what with missing cocktail hour for photo shoots). Also, the drone as an add-on is a MUST. I added a couple of the uniquely drone-requiring shots below and you can see why. I will say, what was perhaps most shocking about their presence on the day of the wedding, is that it felt like we had NO idea they were there. And yet, the video suggests otherwise! (side note: I think they and Anna Kim are buddies, so they worked seamlessly with one another. Bonus!) Post-ceremony: I am a big fan of perfectionism, so I have no critique regarding this, but I will say it does *genuinely* take a couple months to get the footage. However, I think this is certainly the standard for videography since there's such an incredible amount of work that goes into film editing. When we decided to have our wedding in Maui, we were initially unsure of how to go about contracting a videographer. We decided that it would be best to contract locally and we found Ohana Films upon a recommendation from our wedding planner. WE WERE BLOWN AWAY!!! The final product that Ohana Films delivered was fantastic. We have watched it together a dozen times, and we still get choked up reliving our magical day. Here is a shorthand list of the many wonderful things you can expect from these videographers: 1. Kent and Darlene created a visual masterpiece that complimented our story. Our video opens up with, "Once upon a time..." which was the theme of our ceremony. (I met my wife while she was working at Disneyland.) Using that theme as the trajectory for the film was immensely successful. It was romantic. It was stunningly shot. It was incredible. 2. Kent and Darlene are consummate professionals. We were worried that they did not get all of the shots needed for a good wedding film, but we were sorrily mistaken. They used their ninja-like stealth to capture every precious moment. On top of that, they are simply very friendly people and used their rapport with our friends and families to bring our video to everlasting life. 3. The editing was outstanding. From the use of music, panning, and transitions, it felt like we were watching an extended Hollywood movie trailer. Not only was the editing process a work of art, but they completed their work in a very timely fashion. We received our completed video in time for our mainland reception a month later. Everything they caught on film was natural and nothing was set up or acted out. Darlene is a very calm and cool gal. We hired Kent & Darlene to create a film of our wedding day as we had a destination wedding with only 15 people in attendance. It was important for us to have our wedding captured as we wanted to play the finished film at our reception back home. Kent & Darlene were fabulous to work with. They brought gentle, calm energy to our wedding. They naturally fit into our day, and by the end of the night, they felt like dear friends to us. When the film was completed we didn't watch it right away, we waited to watch it until we were able to have our reception back home with friends & family, which turned out to be amazing.
