This was a great experience. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. They do a great job making sure every child at the camp has a good experience, no matter their ability. These kids had a blast and came home exhausted. The instructors are safety oriented and remind the campers to drink water and apply sunscreen. Your child must be responsible enough to do it, this is an outside activity. It's not easy hearding these cats but they do a good job. These instructors are fun-loving and helpful. read more

First and foremost, the owner Rodrigo Cardenas is one of the most accommodating people I have ever dealt with. He is kind and reassuring. He made sure both my grandchildren got in the same camp. Now let's talk About the manager, Kyle.. Kyle is one of the most attentive, passionate, Supervisor, oginized people I have observed. He loves the kids and puts thier safty first. Both Kyle and All the surf coaches are constantly reminding the kids to hydrate, rest and re-apply sunscreen....They work together as a team, to not only teach each camper learns how to surf, but how to encourage others..to surf, have fun, and be safe. I wish I could remember the name of all the coaches. But I'm 62 and my memory fails me. But I have to say Nate does stand out. While all the coaches are extremely encouraging with the kids and are very professional. And it is obvious that they care for the campers, I can tell that coaching is Nate's passion. He has an amazing lifestyle. He coaches surfing all summer and snowboarding in the winter. And never sell any of the female coaches short., They are amazing women. I feel a bit embarrassed that I can't remember all of their names.. It is not because they didn't leave an impression on me, it is simply my memory.. Every single one of them, all the male coaches and female coaches are amazing people.. It is very hard to impress me when it comes to how people treat one another. And especially when it comes to how people treat children. But every one of these people left a deep impression.. My grandchildren felt cared for as well as they felt like they were really taught something. Truthfully my granddaughter everything athletic comes super easy to her. My grandson, on the other hand., It's very intelligent. But anything athletic comes with a bit of a challenge for him.. But believe me, they taught him how to surf. The look on his face when he finally conquered the waves was A look I will never forget.. I thank God for this camp. I really believe it was a divine appointment when I called Rodrigo. Excellent surf camp. My son learned to surf and stand up by the second day in camp. All the instructors were very caring and gentle with the kids, especially Nate. Kyle the manager would stand on the beach and watch the kids all the time making sure no one gets in trouble in the water. Some things that sets this camp apart from other camps are: 1) A lot of the instructors are college kids or recent grads and are bright, articulate, respectful. You can tell they like working with kids. The owner screened well when hiring these guys and gals. 2) It can be difficult for smaller kids to paddle out past the waves breaking on the shore. They position instructors: one close to the beach, another midway out, and several deeper to assist them. Your kid still needs to paddle out, but a helpful shove on the board helps when going back out. 3) We had very high tides during the week of our surf camp. When surf conditions got worse, especially in the afternoon, they broke the class into smaller groups so the ratio of teacher to student was less. This was a pretty good example of how careful they were when taking care of your child in the water. 4) They planned it out so there were adequate breaks to re-apply sunscreen, hydrate, and rest or play a short beach game. So your kid is not going non-stop in the water getting burned out. Again, Ohana was very organized and well run. You can rest assured if you drop your kid off with them they will be safe snd have a lot of fun. We will be back again with Ohana Surf Camp next summer for sure. read more

My son took his first surfing lesson yesterday. Rod's knowledge, temperament and kindness put my 8 year old son completely at ease. My son even caught a wave on his very first try. Although Rod said he was a natural, my son said if it wasn't for his instruction, he never would have done so well. n the area. My 2 kids were both absolute beginners. After booking I was contacted for confirmation by text with details of the location (Mondo's beach). Our instructor was Rodrigo, who was amazing. Super friendly, professional, and immediately started bonding with the kids to make them feel at ease. Surf board and wet suit are provided. The lesson was 2 hours long, and Rodrigo had my kids surfing waves within the first half an hour. They had an amazing time and a highly recommend this surf school. One thing to note is you can't pay by credit card, you can use cash or venmo, maybe check with your instructor. Honestly we couldn't have been happier with our experience, hence 5 stars. The camp seems to have gone downhill. The owner used to be much more involved and at camp daily. This year and last, the camp is mostly run by teens, is unsafe and unorganized. One instructor had a boyfriend and wasn't interacting much with kids. Some days the alpha instructor was missing so kids were bored. This was the case both years. Safety is an issue as not enough instructors watching and interacting with the number of kids. Some kids drift off and have no one around. Not many games on days when tide is low. Sad to see this go downhill like that. read more

Enrolled my son and convinced a friend to enroll hers as well. They were so excited to learn some basics to start surfing- that DID NOT HAPPEN. First of all it was completely unorganized. They'd barely be setting up at 9am when camp was suppose to start, having the kids wait around. I was shocked at the number of students to counselors. 4 counselors to maybe 40 kids. The camp counselors were rude and unprofessional they were teens or very early 20s, they seemed almost annoyed with the kids. The same goes for the owner, friendly enough but not helpful at all. Besides all of that, there was not ONE surfing technique shown to my son or his friend. The first day there wasn't even enough surfboards for all of the kids. And I came to watch each day, it would be random if kids were shown how to do anything by an instructor. It was basically "Here's a surf board get in the water". It was a glorified babysitter at the beach for 3 hours- if that. My son was totally disappointed. SAVE your MONEY! read more

We did a group lesson today and both my kids had the best time. They caught wave after wave. The instructor was knowledgable, fun, and amazing with the kids. My kids can't wait to go back. I was worried that they wouldn't get much time/attention from the instructor because it was a group of 4, but all of the kids were surfing for the entire 2 hours. I signed up both my 12 & 10 year old girls and they LOVED it. Rodrigo the owner was wonderful and the counselors he had where amazing. Attentive, fun and kept a good safe eye on the kids. Made sure the re-applied sunblock, had water and snacks. My kids learned so much, but they went in wanting to learn and participate. My two grandkids attended the camp. It was a very disappointing experience. There were 4 or 5 counselors for 36 kids. The counselors spent most of their time sitting on their surf boards and talking. Paying little attention to the kids. There was no teaching of surfing techniques. At one point 5 kids were building sand castles with no counselors near them. On Friday they had an "Aloha" potluck. The pizza they provided came very late. They ran out of plates and silverware. There was very little communication and planning evident. It was a $300 water babysitting week.
