I never thought I would be this excited about a rest area…read more The Fayette County Rest Area on I-71 northbound has been rebuilt in recent years, and the entire front landscape is dedicated to Ohio native plants. It's almost like walking through a small arboretum. Educational displays identify native trees, flowers, grasses, and shrubs, making it far more interesting than your typical interstate stop. Inside, the theme continues. The walls are filled with displays highlighting communities, attractions, parks, and destinations around Central Ohio and across the state. As you're heading north toward Columbus, it's almost like Ohio is introducing itself before you arrive. Most rest areas are places to make a quick stop and get back on the road. This one is worth taking a few extra minutes to explore. Nicely done, Ohio.

At one time it had a more full service restaurant with regular meals. Times have changed and it's a much more modern facility. It's now a TA "travel center" with a big convenience style store & a franchise fast food restaurant. I miss the old days of sit down meals but this place gets the job done well and cleanly for a lot of travelers. And I'll certainly give them props for the good job they do. I still stop for a bit of nostalgia from time to time. There are still lots of trucks pulling in and I think there maybe are CAT scales on site. It's an easy pull on for fuel and the rest rooms are always pretty clean when I visit - which is a definite plus.

Located just outside of Lucasville, the rest area serves both North bound and South bound traffic. It has full restroom facilities, including a family restroom, and a nice lobby with map and regional brochures and advertisements. The Rest Area has a picnic areas, vending machines, and can accommodate cars, trucks, and commerical trucks. It's also a great "pet stop" if are traveling with a pet.

I believe Pennsylvania and West Virginia offered rest areas similar to airport terminals, with restaurants and gift shops selling state and local souvenirs. Kentucky needs to think like the aforementioned states regarding return on investment (ROI). Also, I believe the toilets were former movie or TV props for Prison Break or likely Escape from Alcatraz or similar. Edit: I believe it was Canada around Hamilton that offered rest areas that had a food court and shops like an airport terminal.

It seemed a little secluded and unattended and silent and quiet. Spooky even. There was not much going on and I didn't notice any places to eat or drink anything. Just some vending machines and some toilets and not somewhere that I would sleep for the night, and this is coming from someone that has slept on the streets of Queens one too many times. Having said that it's better than falling asleep at the wheel so I won't give it the lowest rating.

Besides that, it's got all the amenities of a regular rest stop but it's just out of date compared to the new ones that Ohio has. Perfectly fine rest area that services the westbound traffic between Columbus and Dayton on I-70…read more Yes, there's another one on the opposite side for eastbound, but that's that one and this is this one. Bathrooms were reasonably clean, completely stocked and there was no trash in the parking lot. The far end of the lot was in the shade and after I long day of exploring Columbus, a thirty minute nap worked out really well. There are separate structures for the vending machines and the bathrooms. The rest area is not staffed though I'm sure it's regularly patrolled by the state police, or at least I hope that it is.
