What a great little theatre in GlenviewOil Lamp Theater provides a grand theatrical experience in an intimate space by fostering connection, broadening horizons, and shining a light on the human condition. The 60-seat theater space itself is designed to be more home-like and welcoming than a black-box theater. The chairs are stand-alone padded chairs on simple risers that blend into the stage space with minimal barriers between. This was an issue for me as the person in front of me was quite large and I couldn't see at all. I had to move my seat over into the aisle to be able to see. Guests are never farther than 25 feet from the stage. The theater, lobby and restrooms of the theater are all handicap accessible. We saw "I love you, you're perfect- now change." I had seen the show already on Broadway but this was the modern day version of it. They had cookies in the lobby for anyone to have - I think some people might come here just for the cookies! I love small there's as I am supporting local. I love the fact that you can have some great entertainment right in your backyard!

It's a true testiment to the actors that they are able to do such great things with such limited space.

if you're looking for an enjoyable afternoon some weekend in the burbs, stop over to this well-kept secret in the heart of Glenview. We've been to two plays since we discovered this place. The theater is intimate with seating for about 60 people. There is a bar and seating in the 'lobby'. They let you bring in your own wine and will uncork it for free. If you need a quick bite to eat there is a Jimmy Johns across the street or if you just want some cookies and hot apple cider, they have those for free. It's a great experience. The people are nice. The players are quality actors and it's an enjoyable way to spend a few hours on a weekend.

Very nice theater. Free parking and BOYB, what more could you ask for. The lobby is comfy and homey and there is a bar with cookies and M&Ms. The lobby feels intimate, like someone's home. The theater itself is in an oblong room. The seats are six across with big letters to denote the rows. There are six seats in each row. Rows are kind of close to each other...you can't walk pass folks in comfortably. The performance we went to see was A Love Affair by Jerry Mayer. It was an interesting play about a 38 year marriage, funny and serious, with two sets of actors playing the older and younger version of the couple. The actors and actresses were very good, drawing me into the story. Not sure if all of the performances are this good, but I would be willing to go back here to see another performance. It was nice to see a live performance with bubbles and not spend an arm and a leg. Adult Tickets are $35 and Student Tickets are $20. You can buy tickets online.

According to the director, Keith Gerth, the play "Turn of the Screw" "combines the thrills and chills of Halloween with religion and sex - a great combination to be sure." He's right! great performance!

One of my favorite theaters now has a new location. Oil Lamp now has their own storefront in Glenview and the space is amazing. When you first walk in, you feel like you've entered someone's living room. Everything is decorated very nicely and there is a nice homey, comfortable feel. The new establishment is BYOB (soft drinks provided). They also still offer their yummy cookies...I still can't decide if my favorite is the chocolate chip or snickerdoodle. If you are looking for a unique theater experience, I suggest you check out Oil Lamp.

We saw It's a Wonderful Life last night and really enjoyed it. The cast was excellent and the production professional. We'll be back!

Oil Lamp is an absolute gem - a great theater with its own built-in pre-theater "place to stop for a (BYOB) drink".

City Kid Theatre Company - Keri directing the kids during a bday party

My youtube obsessed daughter somehow discovered City Kid Theatre's "make your own youtube video"…read moreclass. I looked into it and noticed she was a few years too young (starts at 9 years old), but instead sold her on a "make your own music video" party here instead. After chatting with Kerry on the phone I booked it, but when I brought my daughter to check it out she was beyond excited about this magical little theatre. There's not much to the place besides a stage and a small room next to it (which they use as the party room), but it's so incredibly charming. Kerry showed my daughter videos of parties they've done in the past and their costume closet....and she started counting down the days til her party. The party arrived and it didn't disappoint. The party planner in me can't help, but go all out when it comes to my kids birthday parties so we've had some amazing ones thru the years, but this one may have just been my favorite. The girls danced, sang (karaoke style), played freeze dance, ate and celebrated my daughter's bday. While all the girls had a great time, I think Kerry did a really great job of making the birthday party girl feel so special. I've never seen her smile so big especially when they put her in a large birthday cake costume. Because apparently the only thing better than eating birthday cake is wearing it. Since we were making a music video to "Shake it Off" (my daughter's pick) I hired Taylor Swift to stop by the party with the help of Melissa's Royal Princesses. The party would have been amazing without Taylor, but think she was the icing on the cake that make it extra special for a bunch of starstruck 2nd grade girls. A week later we received our video, which you can view below. It's an amazing keepsake that I know my daughter & her friends will treasure for a long time. The lighting itself could have been better on the video, but everything else was the perfect way to celebrate turning 8. I highly recommend for a bday party (good space for up to 20ish kids) and I look forward to checking out their other theatre programs in the future. I have been working out at Jazzercise-Glenview for almost 3 years now and I cannot imagine myself…read moreenjoying other types of work out besides this. The songs are always up to date and some instructors play some oldies as well. The classes have different formats although all of them, except for strength 45/60 classes, are 40 mins of cardio and 20 minutes of strength training. So I get a whole body work out in an hour. Each person can adjust his/her level of intensity for their own work out so even if the cardio routines are fast paced, you can "personalize" your pace by knowing what your body is capable of doing. For strength training, we use mats for ab works, free weights, bands and balls. Since this is a premier center, the studio offers classes from morning (first class is 5:40am) til past 5pm on weekdays and weekends(til 3pm) as well. The studio is always neat, the instructors are professional and friendly, and all the members are nice too. I always feel amazing and accomplished after every class and I actually look forward to working out. The only downside for me is that when I can't make it to the only class that would fit my schedule, specially in the afternoon, then bye-bye work out for me for the day. Other than that, I don't mind whoever the instructor is teaching the class (ok sometimes I do:), as long as I can get my work out in!

I called MAMG to schedule a tour and gather information. The lady I spoke with was so dry and seemed uninterested. Regardless, I scheduled a tour as maybe she was having a bad day and I realize that not everyone can be cheery all the time. :) The tour went well, and I made sure it was scheduled w/ another person. She was friendly and kind. I asked this lady for a packet or folder of information and she was surprised that the first lady I spoke with never emailed it to me. She took down my email address and said she would request that lady to send it to me. Guess what? I never received it! I just think that is horrible practice. I have enrolled my daughter elsewhere. But, I thought the business owner/manager should know about the incompetence of the person I dealt with. I am happy to speak further about it...as I don't want to call out this individual on a public platform.
