After entering the main floor has a few small hands on art based activities. I highly recommend starting on the top floor and working your way down. The top floor has so much to do and we ran out of time before we could check everything out. The museum was clean and well organized. Lots of hands on activities for all age levels. Every kid will find something to enjoy. The shopping experience was one of their favorites. We spent about two hours but could have easily stayed longer.

Once on the second floor, there were a couple of doors and then a volunteer was seating there telling us where to go. The exhibit on the left was ok, not a lot to see but a few interesting pieces. My favourite was the paint workshop with cans all coloured with paint. We went to the other side and there was an exhibit of book covers and an Aboriginal one. The book covers wasn't so interesting but the Aboriginal one had old records and cylinders that recorded conversations and songs. There were some sofas and a large window looking out to water and greenery. It was a lovely view. We spent an hour here and it was ok. They are going through some renovations but hopefully they can make better use of all the space.

A lot of screaming kids jumping and banging on everything. Wow, this is an AMAZING local history museum loaded with much more than just cheese history…read more A suggested donation of $3 (and yes they'll take USD if you don't have CAD) includes a guided tour if you'd like one, and access to all of the buildings. The main building houses an impressive collection of local artifacts. There's a historic music room, breathtaking hand carved wooden artwork, Native American history, and local history (about famous residents including the Ingersoll family, the cheese factory, and other local companies). We especially enjoyed reading about the 27 year old from Ingersoll, ON who traveled the world solo in the 1930s. This building has AC, a gift shop, and guest book by the entrance/exit. Go outside and visit the blacksmith shop, the old school house, the mill, and brick oven, the barn, and the cheese factory. The cheese factory isn't a working cheese factory, instead it's an old building with a ton of cheese-making artifacts, and information on how cheese was made. Ask for a tour, or watch the 20 minute video when you get inside. Ingersoll Cheese Factory is what made this town famous, when the 7,000 lb+ wheel of cheese made an appearance at the Worlds Fair in Saratoga, NY, then shipped to England to be sold. The only thing we were disappointed with was that they do not sell cheese here. However in the factory museum, there's a free brochure about the local Cheese Trail that lists a few nearby places that do, and other cheese attractions to visit. I highly recommend visiting the museum. It's only a minute off of the interstate and well worth the detour! You'll also be greeted by very friendly staff and learn some interesting history too!

They don't really sell cheese here (they have a small fridge with a couple cheeses) so you have to go to one of the local stores to really buy some cheese.

I walked in and a guide was talking to a group of visitors and he informed me he would be right with me and I waited in the entrance. A guide came to greet me in a few minutes and started to talk to me about Banting and take me through each room. I prefer to walk through museums on my own and read the information but the narrative was ok when I had questions. Another guide came that was more familiar and soon, she was the only guide. They told me I could come back and read in more details. It was like a Cole's notes for those who might not have time or want to read the information on the panels. We went through each room downstairs and then upstairs where there was a bedroom that is darker to preserve the wallpaper and this is the room that Banting slept in. It gave me an understanding and appreciation for the history of insulin and how it how positively impacted millions of people. At the end of the tour there's a map where you can put a pin on the map where you're from and to pay. There's also public washrooms there.

Today, was our first time at Clovermead. It has been recommended to us by multiple friends. We were…read morethere from 11am to closing with kids ages 4,8,10 and nobody at any point said they were bored or wanted to go home, this is a first! We have been to many farms around Ontario and even as adults we enjoyed ourselves! Before we came I reached out to them as my youngest one is a full-time wheelchair user and they were super kind by email and informed me they accept Access 2 card. That helped! As this meant that we only had to pay for 4 admissions and I was free as my daughter's caretaker. We decided to keep the wheelchair at home after seeing some photos online of the roads, we took the wagon instead. I highly recommend taking a wagon or a stroller! This is a big farm. You will do a lot of walking. Some of the things about this place : - Lots of shade, lots of benches and seating areas to rest in the shade for anyone. - Lots of bathrooms can be found around the farm, including a small house that was made for privacy for anyone wanting to breastfeed their baby or change a diaper. The little house had two chairs, a change table and a nice size bench by the window if you had a oldest child you needed to change. I thought that was a nice touch to the farm. It is labelled on the map! - The staff were very friendly and helpful. - The food we grabbed for lunch, service was quick and everyone was happy with their meal. Kids meals were under $10.00( they had chicken strips and burger option), Adult meals were $10+ ( burgers, chicken wrap, chicken sandwich). The kids loved the honey lemonade with the Popsicle inside. - We also got some ice cream at the end of the day and had funnel cake that was $8.00 each. - They had a splash pad, pretty decent size. We did not end up using it as it was too cold out and our kids found they were too occupied with everything else. They had nice size private individual change rooms right next to the splash pad. Also saw a change table in the biggest one. - They had many animals through out the farm to visit and feed. - They took debit or credit only! There was no cash option! -The gift shop was a nice size, you can sample 3 of your choice of honey flavours, that was a fun experience for the kids. - Lots of other cool mazes, climbing things, games and things I never seen at other farms that you just need to discover for yourself! My family came here during August long weekend and got more then we bargained for (in a good way!)…read more When you arrive there is plenty of parking but its all on gravel or grass, so everything is unmarked so please be courteous to your neighbors. When we arrived it was already quite quaint looking and social media worthy. At the front desk to buy tickets I was greeted warmly and just before I was about to pay I asked if there was a discount when buying tickets online which there was! So when buying tickets buy in advance! I quickly told them to give me a few minutes while i hopped on my phone to buy the tickets but thanks to Koodo I had no data! I asked the front desk if i could maybe borrow their wifi and they said dont worry about it and just gave me the tickets at the price of online which was much appreciated! Now upon entering the entire thing was jam packed full of things to do. My daughter was enthralled with all the different animals and activities. Mind you things did get busy so we did have to patiently wait to be "next" when doing something but of course not every child has learned how to share properly so just make sure to pack your patience! There is food on site for purchase that was pretty decent and the price was not outrageous. Rides are only at specific times through out the day and runs for about 30 minutes roughly at the set times. So by the time we made it to the rides we just missed one I believe around 2pm, so had to wait for the next set of rides at 4pm. I was planning on only being here for maybe half a day from 9-12 but as you can tell we ended up being here well beyond and basically up to closing! So plan accordingly that this is a full day activity. Sunscreen, hat, fans, snacks, extra change of clothes (they have a splash pad!) and again make sure to pack LOTS OF EXTRA PATIENCE with your little ones. Super fun, jam packed full day. A touch pricey but worth the price of admission. I would definitely recommend and go again if in the area.

Our tour was guided by knowledgeable volunteers who were able to answer any questions we had about the displays and local history. There is information on every person from Elgin County/St. Thomas area who served in the Military during WWl and WWll which could assist Genealogists searching their ancestry. Suitable for history buffs, students and anyone interested in local history. We will return. Thank you to the volunteers for a pleasant and informative afternoon. Time travelled back to 1914 one afternoon. So peaceful and serene looking at life in the early…read more1900s, especially the cool the artifacts. It takes about 2 hours to explore the grounds starting with the entrance from the Region of Waterloo Museum which is connected to the Doon Heritage Village on Huron Road. Staff are wonderful at answering questions and showing how the old tools and equipment were used back then. Some of the old tools are just rock solid and will last forever. Wood was the primary construction materials used for building. This explains why fire insurance was a fast growing business. Insurance companies in the Region thrived and made the economy grow in that sector for years to come. The Martin House is beautifully decorated inside and out. The family was of Old Order Mennonite religion. There were very conservative colour schemes used, and no mirrors were allowed in the home! The Old Post Office is connected to a custom tailor service in the same building. Our hostess explained how the one man operation (tailor and postmaster) was in charge of both businesses. Suits were made to order and were outfitted with ties and cuff links. It was a profitable venture until the Eaton's catalogue business became more popular. The Dry Goods Grocery Store is "stocked" with canned goods and non-perishables such as soap and laundry detergent. Brand names included McCormicks and Heinz. Homes were equipped with a cast iron stove that kept the premises warmer in the winter months. Check out the feet of the stoves which were designed like ones you would find on vintage pianos. Very enjoyable afternoon spent and we learned a lot about early life and hard work of the German community and how it all started in Kitchener (then known as Berlin).

Costume interpreters greet visitors in the historic buildings. Special events and activities throughout the village's May 1 to December 23 season. Doon Heritage Village is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 1 to Labour Day. Hours vary from Labour Day to Dec. 23 - check the museum's website for public hours in the fall. The village is closed from December 24 to April 30.

If, like me, you are into military history and military aviation, this is a wonderful place…read more Everything here is in flying condition and there is an incredible selection of understandably Canadian military aircraft. From WW2 era stuff right up to the present day. The facility is huge and comfortable. Fortunately for me the day I was there was temparate so I could spend plenty of time outside behind the museum with the birds stored there as well. Just the right mix of real planes and displays of artifacts and informative plaques. This would be an enjoyable visit for anyone even mildly interested in history, but if history is your passion? Buckle up for an incredible amount of fun!

They also have interactive elements like the flight simulator and VR experience (extra cost). A lot of the staff is made up of retired pilots and mechanics who are incredibly friendly and eager to share their knowledge. My brother and boyfriend loved getting to sit in the actual planes. There's even a small cafe inside with a great view of the runway. A perfect way to spend the day and pay tribute to our veterans as well. Even though it is a bit far from Toronto, it's definitely worth the visit. You can also stay as long as you want, go in and out for food breaks if you need.
