We missed the street that takes you to the park twice, when we finally found the place it had ample parking available. There is a playground which was packed on the Sunday afternoon that we visited. The restrooms are located next to the playground and were relatively clean. The park offers plenty of shade and was well maintained. There was a small outdoor gym where I saw 1 person utilizing. I saw people playing catch in the open field and several people were walking their dogs. You can walk, run or bike ride on the trail. There is a very peaceful area that over looks the river where we took pictures. We were able to get in several miles and more than my required steps for the day. I look forward to coming back to Amerson River Park.

Picnic and playground areas are great for non official group gatherings for families and the young at heart. Tree lined walking paths through the park with nice areas to relax with friends on a calm afternoon. The fields can get busy during the season with multiple games and practices going on at once, but plenty of parking for those cheering on from the stands. The dirt road that loops around the fields is great for running or walking too.

Some of this is nice and submerged in Nature with lots if greenery, flowers, streams and the river. Unfortunately, it is overshadowed by I75, power transformers and other ugly sites.

I can't believe this park is free. There's a very informative museum with lots of displays and…read moreinformation. There are even some interactive displays. They also offer a 17 minute movie. There is a gift store inside the museum as well. Then there are miles of trails that you can walk to get to the mounds or you can drive to designated parking areas if you prefer to walk less. Some of the trails are concrete/paved, others are dirt, some are just mowed grass, but ALL of them are beautiful. It's easy to see why the Native Americans chose that spot. In additional to the epic mounds, the land was just gorgeous and We even saw a deer while we were walking. You could spend an entire day here, easily. We were at the park for about 2 hours. During that time, we went through the museum very quickly (we had a 7&8 year old with us), then walked about 2.5 miles of trails and still only saw/walked about half of what was there. If we lived in the area, we would probably be there several times a week just to enjoy the trails.

Surrounded by beautiful homes including the Johnston-Felton Hay House, the park is a great place to picnic. There are outdoor concerts here, permanent art installations and a number of memorials to past military and a famous politician. One special feature is the slide which is probably really nice some times but today was a little filled with trash. And no, this isn't the cardboard pieces that help you have an enjoyable ride. You do need something to reduce the friction or it's not much of a "slide" after the trash is gone. There are some picnic tables and grills. It's very nice. And the cement slide is so much fun!!! It goes pretty quickly! And it is very difficult to walk back up the slide itself as the cement is smooth...but there are the actual stairs and grass to be used. After driving 90 minutes and grabbing lunch nearby, we arrived on the Middle Georgia State University campus around 12:30 p.m. on a Friday. This was after the Spring semester ended and during COVID, so things were pretty dead anyway. We entered the campus, and found that there were a marked lack of any signage about the (on-campus) botanical gardens. We drove around and eventually parked to consult a maps app on our phone. Undeterred, we parked and walked towards what was indicated as the location. I stopped to read a sign and discovered that, in fact, we were *IN* the garden. Ok, look...I'll admit that this is appears to be a fairly new campus and it is nicely landscaped. There is a lake with a small island with plants, etc. There are a lot of walking paths. It was quite pretty, as campuses go. I've spent years on uglier campuses, certainly. However: calling this a botanical garden is really a stretch. It is more like a 20% enhanced landscaping with a few signs. If you really like plants and have a lot of time to kill and are in the area, by all means stop by. If you are contemplating driving for more than 20 minutes to visit this place (specifically for the 'gardens', I would advise skipping it).
