I had such a good hike out here. Fresh air,good trails, and history. It felt surreal to sit in nature and think of what that land means. I didn't get a chance to go into the visitor center, but I did check out all of the trail stops. Even got to see the train pass. read more

Disappointing trail. Expectations based on other reviews here and on line were not met. Short paved trail alongside Ocumulgee River. Bike sharing available. Plenty of parking available at Trailhead just off exit 1A of I 16. Swimming, fishing, biking, playground and other activities. Has potential for a decent biking trail and is in big need of tender living care. Looked like some maintenance of trees and flooded trail was in process, as well as some planting. Some of this is nice and submerged in Nature with lots if greenery, flowers, streams and the river. Unfortunately, it is overshadowed by I75, power transformers and other ugly sites. read more

As good as it gets, here- In Macon, that is. This review is really for the Heritage Trail...which I couldn't really decide how to list. This whole complex- trail and playground- is one of the few areas in town that will fool you into thinking that Macon is actually a diverse, well integrated town, instead of the super segregated mess that it really is. Sorry, that should go in my Macon review. I digress. As far as the playground goes,I will throw in the fact that it seems cute, and is well used. I'd like to bring my niece here- it has all the fun kiddie stuff- slides, swings and monkey bars. It also has benches for exhausted parents. This trail has restored my sanity many an afternoon. I can remember several hellish days that were somehow made less hellish by coming out here for a long walk/jog. The setting, even though it is partially under/along I-75 is beautiful, and quiet. Every time I come out here I see some sort of personal good luck talismen- whether lady bugs, cardinals, a grove of bamboo, sprigs of mistletoe or a single blossom sticking out of a tangle of vines. Something about being out here feels very spiritual...and I love it. I love the side that is directly opposite the cemetery....it's especially beautiful to look out across the river (when it's running and not totally dry like it can get in the summers) and see the stately, centuries old Rose Hill cemetery. Parts of the trail are shaded, and there are some really beautiful examples of local trees and native flowers all along the way. Some even have signs explaining what they are. Over in the Otis Redding part they have a bunch of cherry blossom trees...and I swear, they were blooming today. Yep, in January. This place really is sorta like a nature preserve, right in the middle of this glorious "city" with a "world view"....really? Yes, there are some bums under the bridge. I've never seen them stop or bother anyone: they pretty much do the same head bob that all friendly trail users do. And yes, James H's description: "Boat ramp with local in breed trailer park trash swimming in the water" is also hilariously true. But really, truly, this will be one of the things that I'll miss about Macon. read more

I don't have kids but this seems like a fun playground to go to. I walk this trail often and have played on the equipment myself. It is located besides the main parking lot for the Ocmulgee Heritage trail. This playground has swings for little and big kids. There is a playset that has multiple slides, things to climb on and monkey bars. The playground is situated in the larger Ocmulgee Heritage Trail which has acres and acres of area available for free play and exploring. Lots of places to have fun and adventure that will keep your kids happy. read more

Yea. Boat ramp with local in breed trailer park trash swimming in the water. One looked like a water buffalo. I thought I was at the zoo. 3 Hobos under the bridge on the trail walk, begging for a smoke and money. Litter from the bums. Otherwise very nice. Excellent playground. Not sure if I would feel safe leaving my car unattended (taking off in a kayak) or walking to far as their were to many bums of all walks. Otherwise nice walks of the river, make sure you exercise your 2nd Amendment while visiting here. read more

I want to give it 5 stars because for Macon, they tried hard... It's a very nice park and nature/river walk. It would be a great place to bring the community together and keep your family active together. BUT..... They don't do the greatest job policing it up. It's not somewhere that I'd feel safe taking my eye off my child for one second. It's often the meeting grounds for the homeless. Don't get me wrong, everyone deserves a place to go and relax but, the city invested way too much $ into it to have it be a free place to live. Don't get me wrong, I love the park but I wish I felt a little safer being there with my children. It's not somewhere I go "unarmed" or by myself. read more

I actually use to go here a lot in 2013. Do a little walking and what not, but um even then i noticed this place was odd. I would not be here after dark. It's hobo town. I brought my daughter out here a couple of times but don't think I will be doing that again until they clean this place up. They need to lock it at a certain time like the decent park close to riverside. I've been to central park(NYC), which is beautiful,but when a park is open 24 hours a day..then nonsense seems to be welcomed. Unlike central park(NYC), which is fine in the daytime, No one should be here at ocmulgee after dark or daytime.. read more

Great place to go and take kids, or meet for a walk. Me personally I wouldn't go alone due to many people frequently in and out not to mention panhandlers, vagrants etc. read more
