Spending my first nine years of life in Coeur d'Alene, I was forced to visit the Old Mission on a field trip in the fourth grade. Being the little snot I was I didn't appreciate it at the time and during my last trip to Coeur d'Alene, I had the urge to go back and rediscover it and I sure am glad I did. They price the entry for $5 per car and you can either pay at the gate or at the visitors center. At the visitors center you have the option of going through a museum and learning about the history of the Catholic Church and the Native Americans in the North West. It's actually a really well put together section and I strongly recommend spending the extra ten dollars to experience it. The grounds of the mission are well taken care of. On the grounds, there is the church itself, the caretakers house, a groves of trees and a nature trail that takes you down past the old gravesites. I am very glad that I had the urge to visit and did so, if you're driving on I-90, this place needs to be a must stop for you. read more

Historical site worth visiting if you have time. Parking near the Visitor Center and additional parking near the Church. Outhouses, picnic tables and self guided walking path. There is an exhibit in the Visitor Center that has more displays for an additional fee. We're not history buffs, so we skipped that. We appreciated the church, Parish house and cemetery. Easy access from I-90. read more

I recently photographed a wedding at the Cataldo Mission and I have to say I wish more couples would marry here! It's absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous. The chapel itself is beyond charming and the grounds are just beautiful. A photographer's dream. I understand that there are festivals and gatherings there that I've been missing out on and I plan to go back for those asap! I actually suggested the Cataldo Mission to another couple and am photographing them in a couple weeks there! This is an outstanding location for tourism and romance alike. read more

I took my son there. He had a blast running around the old church with no shoes on. There is a lot to see. Look at the walls and floor carefully and you can see some of the history there. The wood is beautiful. The grounds are very clean and there is a cherry tree packed with cherries. read more

If there is such a thing as having a place/location that is a soul mate, this is mine. I was traveling through years ago (on a road trip from Seattle to Glacier) and decided to pull off at the exit not knowing what to expect. What I found was one the most beautiful, peaceful locations I have been lucky enough to visit. Not only is there a remarkable old church on site but there is a lovely parish house, an old cemetery, and a tepee! The grounds have cherry trees, great views of the mountains, hidden little groves and a nature trail. There is also a visitor's center if you are interested in the history of the Mission. I'm from Texas but I've been back a few times (most recently to get married at the Cataldo church). I look forward to many future visits! read more

Growing up in the Silver Valley, we drove by the Mission my entire life without really paying much attention to it. When my husband and I were deciding on a place to get married, my father suggested the Cataldo Mission-what a great idea! Nailing a date down with the staff with a bit like pulling teeth, but once we got our date it was perfect. All our friends and family loved the location of the wedding and also enjoyed the history of the visitors center-added bonus. read more

I recently visited the cataldo mission and MY BREATHE WAS TAKEN AWAY! The architecture was impeccable! The weather was quite moist but I made the most of my visit (even though I fell in the mud lol). I was inside the church building for exactly 43 minutes. I was quite scared that the roof would collapse since the building was very clearly falling apart. If you ever in the area 20/10 would recommend. The staff were the most wonderful, nice, down to earth, understanding, and optimistic people I have EVER met! If you happen to go on a rainy/wet day I would HIGHLY recommend walking on the cement path because if you go on the grass you are GARANTEED TO FALL AND DIE. read more
