After reading so many positive reviews and recommendations, this was a "must-try" distillery for…read moreme. I made reservations in advance for the last tasting on a Saturday. If you're unfamiliar with the area, the distillery is located in the New Distillery District, which has several other local establishments, including bars and restaurants. On a Saturday, the area can get very crowded, and parking may be difficult to find. It was also a little confusing to locate the entrance to the distillery, and we actually had to call to figure out where the front door was. Fortunately, we found it just in time for our tour. Our tour guide, Slaid, started off by providing us with a ton of interesting historical information, which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, as the tour continued, his demeanor seemed to change and came across as somewhat mean and arrogant. For the tasting, we were provided with glass shot glasses, which I thought was a nice touch. At one point, Slaid told us that if we didn't like something, we could pour it on the ground. I happened to be standing next to an open, empty barrel and jokingly asked if he meant that I should pour it there. His response was abrupt: "No, I never told you to do that!!" I was yelled at like a child. It was an awkward interaction. There were also a few moments where he was quick to call out other guests. For example, when someone was standing slightly near a display case, he loudly told them not to be anywhere near it. While I understand wanting to protect the displays, the way it was communicated felt unnecessarily harsh. Overall, I really enjoyed the historical information and appreciated the take home glass tasting glasses. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of the tour guide's demeanor or the bourbons themselves. One other thing that I found a bit off-putting was receiving a message the following day asking us to tip our tour guide. None of the other distillery tours we experienced during our trip did this, so it felt somewhat unusual and, honestly, a little tacky. There were definitely some positives to the experience, but based on the tour itself, the bourbon, and the overall interaction with our guide, it wasn't one of my favorite stops.

It was designed for Senator John Pope of Kentucky. We toured this property by making an appointment with the Bluegrass Trust. They were great about working with us so we could see this unique piece of history. The home changed hands through the years until it eventually got cut up into multiple apartments for student housing. It eventually experienced a fire, which led to the Bluegrass Trust being able to purchase it. This is a way to see preservation and restoration in action. The trust has very slowly and painfully, over time, first worked to ensure the property was safe and at least stable. And now they are slowly working to restore it a little bit at a time. This is truly a labor of love, with members of the trust taking turns mowing the lawn, cleaning up plaster, doing small projects. And budgets are tight, so every contribution helps. Tours are a steal at 10 dollars, so pay more if you can. Great way to learn about history, architecture, previous lifestyles, restoration. Gorgeous photo ops. It's amazing to walk through a home that has such a direct connection to both Mary Todd Lincoln and Abraham Lincoln and to see the rooms where Mary spent part of her childhood. The house itself is beautiful and has a lot of character. The period furnishings, family portraits, artwork and other artifacts really help bring the history to life. I especially enjoyed being able to walk from room to room and actually see the kind of home Mary grew up in rather than just reading about her in a history book. One thing I really liked was learning more about Mary Todd Lincoln herself. She was much more than simply Abraham Lincoln's wife, and the exhibits do a good job showing her life from her childhood in Lexington through her years as First Lady and later in life. There are a lot of interesting details about her education, family and experiences that I didn't know before visiting. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the self-guided format was nice because we could take our time and really look at everything without feeling rushed. The small garden behind the house was also a nice touch and gave us a peaceful place to walk around after touring the home. The location in downtown Lexington is convenient too, and it's easy to combine this with other things to see, restaurants and attractions in the area. There's also a complimentary downtown walking tour available, which is a nice bonus. Overall, this was a great historical experience. If you enjoy American history, presidential history, historic homes or just visiting unique places that have a real story behind them, I would definitely recommend the Mary Todd Lincoln House. The Mary Todd Lincoln House is a beautifully preserved window into the early life of a complex First Lady and the turbulent times she lived through. We opted for the guided tour, and it was absolutely the right choice. Phillip was our guide, and he didn't just recite facts. He gave perspective. Thoughtful, objective, and deeply knowledgeable, he handled the complicated dynamics of a slave-owning border state with grace and clarity. He was also incredibly kind in his portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln, helping us see her not as a caricature, but as a layered, resilient, and deeply human figure. Each room is meticulously curated. Not every item was original to the Todd or Lincoln families, but everything was period appropriate and helped tell the story. The artifacts weren't just on display. They became part of the narrative, which made it all the more engaging. What surprised me most was how much the visit made me reflect on grief ... her profound losses, her perseverance, and the emotional weight she carried as First Lady during the Civil War. It gave me a new respect for her. And even better? My wife, who is not a big history buff, was the one who suggested we go, and she loved it. That says a lot. The whole tour ran a little over an hour and was the perfect pace. Despite the unseasonably hot June day, the air conditioning kept us comfortable, and the staff were welcoming from start to finish. Seeing High Bridge has been on my local bucket list for YEARS, and here's why: I know a couple…read morewhose wedding reception was there, I know a couple who got engaged there, and I know someone with a TATTOO of High Bridge! So I wanted to know what the big deal was. Surely there's more significance than their crisp and refreshing drinking water? After visiting I'm not so sure, BUT it is a historically significant and fascinating bridge, to be sure. The grounds have a few picnic areas, as well as an old (but renovated) pavilion and restroom facilities. There is an overlook where you can walk out and get a spectacular view of the bridge and the Palisades, and read up on the history of the structure. The grounds also house a barge (?) and a caboose. It's interesting to see, and I suppose if you're a bridge or train enthusiast it might be worth a special trip, but honestly, the drive to and from the park was way more scenic than the park itself.

Considering I have cousins that live in Fayette County and my daughter was born in Madison County you can take my word for it that I've gone over this bridge many times. I'm sorry I was busy driving the last time I went over this bridge or I would have taken a photo. You really need to be a distance away to capture the bridge as it is today. At highway level, there isn't much to see other than three lanes of in each direction with a low wall that overlooks the river. There are clear signs prohibiting stopping or pedestrian traffic on the bridge. I'd have to guess they had traffic problems and maybe BASE jumpers here as it is some 200 feet over the river. The bridge is actually three bridges, with the original piers from the 1946 and 1963 bridges being used as part of the construction of the new bridge. Completed in in 1998 there are three lanes in each direction and full-width shoulders. Each northbound/southbound roadway is 60 feet wide and it was most recently resurfaced in 2021.
