They run a pocket money club where they'll send you a different bag of sweets on a weekly or fortnightly basis which is bound to put a smile on your face! I've been there more times than I've been anywhere else in Oxford, many times over, and I don't feel guilty at all. Worse still, I almost always get the langostinos, which are near-divine Sicilian pastry, filled with a range of creamy goodness. The proprietor is so warm and friendly, and recognises us every time. The coffee is great, and priced affordably. The Belgian chocolates are just beautiful, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting--bringing in a range of people. Today, there was a pensioner couple, a single lady, a couple of boisterously polite tweens with their mums, and four young attractive Italian ladies. Bottom line: go whenever you can, tip well, and savour EACH flavour of the glorious langostinos!

So, it is a relatively small premise, but simply filled to the brim. Mainly this shop sells individual chocolates; cream filled, praline, nougat, dusted, dark and many more. They also sell a section of Thortons chocolates as well. Because I came in near Christmas there was plenty of Christmas gifts, such as chocolate Santa's and snowmen. I'm sure Easter is just as well represented. This is also a prefect place to pick up gifts. There are walls of chocolate gift boxes, ranging in size from a few chocs to around a hundred. The Winchester shop is quaint but but it does have a nice selection of confectionery on display. But the fact that a baby stroller has taken up half the floor space is not the store owner's fault - it's that of selt-entitled parental who think their sprogs are important deities (another issue there), but I do mention this as a warning that the floor space is rather small. I picked up some boxes of Christmas Truffles for my husband's family members and they have gone down a treat. Only funny side for me, being from North America, is that when I mention that one of my favourite chocolate shops is called Montezuma my friends back home just howl in laughter over the name .. as a popular saying in N.America for have traveller's "runs" is "Montezuma's Revenge" .. so as a foreigner I do get a bit of a giggle.

I recognized immediately that it wasn't exactly cheap, but you also can tell right away that it will all be worth every penny. And it was. The woman behind the counter, who I assume was probably the owner, was extremely helpful and patient. She gave extra details on all of the chocolates that I asked about. I ended up getting one of each of the following ganaches: marc de champagne, passionfruit jelly in milk chocolate, a hand-painted heart with a bee, an earl grey, and I'm afraid I can't remember the last two. But every single one was divine, and it was all packaged in a perfect little box. Happy birthday to me! What a shame we don't have one of these in the states.
