Good selection of cigars for all tastes and budgets and you are never rushed along - so sit and anjoy that smoke and make some new friends along the way. I used to enjoy City Place before the buyout. Busy enough, but not crowded. Excellent selection and knowledgable staff. Of my numerous visits, I remember a woman (who happened to be from near my hometown in NY) that was friendly, conversational, and knowledgable. A dapper gentleman who dressed to impress, and even an invite to a friendly evening poker game, which I happily lost. Now, my first visit after the transition to new ownership and the new name (William Alexander Tobbaconist) was truly disappointing. The place is empty, the staff member (albeit friendly) was dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, and most importantly, th humidors were EMPTY. Not just poor selection, but literally no selection. Maybe 8 boxes at MOST. It was truly sad. I was told it was due to distributors cutting off the account due to the previous owner's debt, but I take that with a grain of salt. I give 2 stars ONLY because the employee was friendly. It really deserves 1. I hope this is remedied soon. As a loyal customer, I am truly upset and cant recommend this place until massive changes are made. read more

City Place Cigar is a cigar shop and lounge. There are several very comfortable chairs and card tables, a few flat screen TV's with sports playing, and a walk in humidor. Although they do not serve alcohol, there doesn't seem to be any issue with bringing something in with you. I have been there several times and after the first visit I stopped at the ABC store for a couple mini bottles of bourbon that I discretely mixed with the pepsi i bought. They also have free wi-fi. I don't play cards but if i did, this would be a great place to do it. There is usually a small group of people playing poker at one of the card tables. The owner is usually there, very nice guy, his daughter owns a deli a couple blocks away. I'm not a cigar aficionado but a co-worker is and he praised the selection and freshness of the cigars when we found this place after dinner one night in lynchburg. The staff is very friendly and approachable so if you are not sure what to select don't worry, they will point you in the right direction. They also have special events and sales. If I lived in lynchburg i would take advantage of them but unfortunately i only make it there a couple times per month, but when i do, i always stop at City Place Cigar. read more

If you're looking for a nice place to kick back in a big leather chair on a rainy day and watch some sports with a stogie in your mouth, I highly suggest City Place. Friendly staff and clientele. My only qualm would be with the selection. It seems kind of small for me, but I'm not an avid cigar smoker and lean to a specific taste of cigars. For a cigar junkie, they probably have what your looking for. For pipe tobacco, not much to pick from, but what they have is the good stuff. Prices seem to be on point with other places in and out of town that I've bought from so, although it seems like an upscale place when you walk in, you're not getting robbed here to enjoying the quality space with your newly purchased cigar. If you're looking for bigger selection of cigars and pipe stuff, you'll have to head to Mister John's downtown, but their hours are lacking and it's not much of a hang out joint compared to City Place unless you know the people who are in there all the time or work there. City Place definitely has the better new comer, casual customer environment. You can book a table for poker nights and other games, or sometimes jump in games with people who just happen to have an open seat. If they opened up bar service inside like Mona Lounge & Cigar Bar in Richmond it would definitely be one of my #1 go to spots for a night out. read more

I've been a loyal customer at city place for the past two years. It has been a place to do homework, hangout with friends, or just lay back and relax after a long day at work. The lounge is perfectly accommodating for relaxing as well as socializing. Not only will you enjoy a great cigar, but for the most part you will sit across from people with the same intentions who will want to engage in casual conversation. Go when Zach is working and he will recommend a great stick according to your particular cigar preference. The only reason this is getting a 4 star is to grab the attention of the owners. The selection has been subpar as of late. Quite a shame to go in looking for your favorite brands and not seeing them. No Alec Bradly, no Camacho (my favorite), and no Rocky Patel... but plenty of 262 brand. read more

Soooo much better than the last cigar shop in this location! They actually have cigars and friendly service here now... The staff are very friendly and don't mind helping the occasional smoker or new guy. The walk in humidor is a good size for Lynchburg, and usually very stocked. The store is very open, with comfortable leather couches, flat screens and a poker table. Great place to sit and enjoy a fine smoke with friends. They have also started having regular events here. I have received numerous invitations for events that include a cigar, dinner, drinks and a presentation from one of their suppliers. The first one that I will be able to attend is this Thursday though. I'll update the review after that. Make sure to stop by the Muse Coffee Co. next door before or after City Place. Man I've been in a lot of cigar lounges in my travels and this one tops them all. The selection is great with something for your first timer, wife or gf buying a gift, to your seasoned aficionado with specific tastes and prices for whatever your budget is. The layout is spacious and comfortable with multiple flat screens to catch the game and a great ventilation system so the place doesn't get too smoky. The real highpoint of CPC is the friendliness and knowledge of the staff and they're willingness to go the extra mile and then some. I had a humidity meter I thought was off and Kyle put it in the humidor to gage it and that's just one of many examples of how awesome the staff is. They regularly hold events at the lounge with reps from different cigar brands with deals, raffles, and dinner. My friends and I enjoyed an outing to City Place Cigar a few weeks ago. We are all female, so we were a little nervous about going in by ourselves, but the employees were friendly and helpful. They directed us to the different cigars for sale and offered suggestions and answered all of our questions. After we purchased our cigars, one of the employees cut them and lit them for us. Always stop in this shop when I'm in the area, and you should too. The lounge is perfect, conveniently located and well appointed - deserves 5 stars. They have flat screens, plush rugs, and leather sofas throughout the area which is enveloped by these awesome exposed brick walls. I'm so glad they kept the building true to its history. Art Deco style fans for ventilation and tiling make this a very comfy place to hang out and speak to employees or locals while enjoying your purchase. This place was great back in the day but the shop was bought by new owners a year or so ago. They do not stock the humidor. They paid staff is nice enough but not properly educated. NO pipe stuff to speak of except the occasional lot of corncob seconds. Most of the good crowd of regulars from prior to the new owners are no longer around which tells me the new owners are probably mistreating people. Unless something changes, you are better off buying Swisher Sweets from a gas station because this place is just awful. One star only because zero is not an option. read more

I have been here several times in the past, but this is the first time that the place is almost empty. I was surprised to find that the cigar selection was lacking. My usual brands such as Fuente are almost nonexistent. The lounge is still clean, nice and comfortable. I am going to try the downtown shop next time. read more
