Through these 4 years, I've had my identity stolen once and then my debit card cancelled, with absolutely no warning. My checking account worked and my card was not expired, but it shut down regardless. When I went to the closest branch (this one), they ordered me a new card, which also didn't come in. I think to top it all off, when my mom goes there to make deposits in our joint account, one of the tellers tries to sell her life insurance under the table. Glorious. I have had another account with Charles Schwab where I rarely interact with their staff, and yet their customer service, and my personal experience, with them is exponentially better than with TCF. The minuscule upsides to this chain: they are open 7 days a week, and you get a free sweatshirt or account bonus when you join. Great.

Karrie took the time to explain two options to me: their most popular, the "virtual wallet," and free checking. PNC offers free checking accounts, but with a price: you have to have direct deposit. I was looking for a secondary account which wouldn't be receiving a steady, bi-weekly paycheck, so this option didn't work out for me. But basically as long as you have a J-O-B, PNC offers a solid option for free checking. The virtual wallet is a checking account combined with a short-term savings and a long term savings. This sounds a little too fancy and complex for me, my goal was to find something where I could deposit a few willy nilly profits from a home-party business (which has since FLOPPED). But this 3-in-1 account dealie is worth it if you like all your money in one place, but technically it's 3 places, so you won't blow Little Susie's college fund at the casino. PNC is a great neighborhood bank with a bunch of west suburban locations.

They want you to use their website just to schedule an appointment and speak to someone. I walked in and requested an appointment with a banker to open a new CD and put it in a trust. Waited 2 days and had the appointment with their banker. He xeroxed the trust for corporate to review. Two weeks goes by and didn't hear anything. So I called the phone number on the banker's personal business card and left a message. I wanted to know the status. Did corporate review the trust? He never returned my call. Very unprofessional.

They would not let me bring a form home for her to sign then return it. They insist on two doctors notes that she cannot physically come in.
